This is giving me such feels. Same I actually base where I'd want to live more so on how much HISTORY is in a city if that makes sense. Like for me, the south, CREAM OF THE CROP for me. Yes, a lot of that history is BAD history, and a DARK STAIN but OHHHH MY GOD the things you could LEARN about in the south. And even the American Southwest here in Arizona, we got QUITE the......interesting backstory too lol. Then there's Washington DC, and New York City both teeming with historical value. I think either way, Taylor is gonna love the northeast.

Lifelong Bostonian, and I think we have the best of all worlds. In Boston, best hospitals, schools, events, history, restaurants, the ocean. Then within an hour in every direction you are in relaxing small town coastal retreats, NH mountains up north, or farmland out west. Everything is just available right there, which you forget all don't have.

Beekman Towers was where my apartment was. Amazing lighting, surprisingly spacious (for Manhattan), and decently affordable. Weird bonus, but because of all of the embassies around, the neighborhood was super safe as we had legit secret service types (not sure what to call them) with all the diplomats, expats, and their families..

The majority of the people who rent in that area are out of towners, actors, singers etc - people who want to live in that area no matter the price. That was a crappy apartment even for NY.

I’ve always been super interested in the cost of living/ renting, and what you can get for your $ in different states and countries. *Just a few places I’ve lived over the years……….. * San Francisco- I paid $2,500 a month for a charming 2 1/2 bedroom, 1 bath. Lots of natural light. Great location. * Kauai, Hawaii- I paid $350.00 a month and lived in a huge yurt, 2 min walk to the ocean. It’s was AMAZING! * Columbus Ohio- I pay $665.00 a month for a huge 1 bedroom, 1 bath, very large walk- in closet, dishwasher, washer n dryer. Lots of natural light. Great location.

Hi Taylor! I loved seeing this video. Thank you for sharing. My sister lived in 177 Bleecker St . In the late 1960’s and early 70’s . She lived on the 5 th floor . There were two apartments to the front of the building, hers was on the left . The wall with the fireplace was enclosed with drywall and the kitchen had a big claw foot tub in it that was covered by a board! The apartment in the back of the building had to use a hallway bathroom. I love and miss New York , grew up in Yonkers . I was a young teenager then so it was so much fun to go and stay with her sometimes 😘😘😘😘 Best wishes on your search . I’m excited to see which city you end up choosing 🥰🥰🥰

Upper Best Side! I’ve lived here (only a block from the last place you toured) for about 3 years now (and previously in various other Manhattan/BK neighborhoods) and as a newly 30 year old gal, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I adore it. It has a perfect mix of just about everything, and easy access to anything else you could ever want/need. It really is the perfect neighborhood… 100/10 would recommend!

I agree. I lived on the Upper East side 70th & First. Great light & floor to ceiling windows on three sides - west, uptown & downtown exposures. 10+ years in the same condo/apartment and loved it. When Taylor said she was looking at places I immediately thought of the UWS or the UES. Everything you need is there & you’re a train ride to anyplace downtown you want to play at! UWS & UES are more family-oriented & quieter than downtown. Anyhow enough of that ramble. 💕

I commend you for seeing the potential in the $3400 one that you like because, for me, I wasn't a fan of the layout despite the amount of space and storage. The loft areas were strange and the mess around the flat made me so anxious I couldn't see past it and couldn't envision how I would utilize the space, but I've no doubt you'd make it look amazing if you do end up moving there. Personally, I liked the old hotel (though I guess that would be too much space and too high a price for one person) and the $2895 studio. The $2895 studio surprised me with all the space you could get for that price, but I get that the lack of light is a major drawback for you especially for your work.

I’m born & bred in NY & I can tell you those first apartments you were shown were way too overpriced & crappy. People who rent those apartments are people who really want to live in the area (the village) no matter the price. It’s not worth it, it’s cramped, on the weekends it’s loud & full of drunk frat boys. Don’t get me started on Santa Con 🤨 If you want to live & work in peace don’t move anywhere in the village NSEW doesn’t matter it’s just not worth it money wise, work, sleep sanity wise. Look in the 50-60 St areas E & W sides, a few NY KZbinrs have found some deals there. Good luck! (If you want to venture outside of Manhattan check Riverdale (it’s the fancy part of the Bronx))

I’m not even from the US so it’s impossible for me to compare prices to other US cities (hi from France btw 🇫🇷) BUT I went on a roadtrip through the US before covid hit and one of the cities I visited was Boston. I loved it SO MUCH, especially beacon hill which you will have heard of already I’m sure. There is a lot of great food and loads of coffee places, but my favorite memory is feeding squirrels in the park where the ice skating pond is. They literally climbed on me it was amazing 🥲 super random story but yeah I think you’ll like it there!

Would you ever consider living further out of the city? My sister lived in Queens in a few different apartments and they were again, expensive, but a little more roomy than the few you showed here, she worked in Manhatten and it was like 20 minutes on the subway to commute in and out so was handy!

I grew up in NYC and then lived in San Francisco for a long while before booking it to Europe and holy wow I'm so glad I did. These prices are insane! I have a 2-3 bedroom apartment (I use one room as an office) to myself for less than $1000/mo now and I still live in the biggest city in Europe 😅

I have lived on the UWS for eight years and we decided this year to buy. We bought a place in the building next to ours. If you can, it is best to pay for your place in cash then pay the monthly maintenance fees which still run you about $1200/month.

My favorite was the last place you saw with the two bedrooms and that crazy loft thing. I'm a HUGE fan of unique though. The view from the other places was better, but there was just something super charming about that 2 bedroom place that I would have hopped on immediately if it was someplace I was looking to live personally. 3k a month, even when sharing with two roommates, is never justifiable. Rents in NYC are outrageous and take advantage of people who can’t afford to purchase a home, which are likely most people living in NYC proper. Even with “amenities”, these mega apartment complexes are always taking advantage of their tenants. When we stayed in NYC for a portion of our honeymoon, we saw an apartment complex that featured a bowling alley and prices started for $4k a month for a studio. It’s hilarious to hype a bowling alley when most people go bowling maybe once a year?
