@stevenshelley9345 a bit of solitude clears the mind, and yes, I arm myself. Occasionally, I'll bring a pup along if the weather and location allow. The areas I camp at have big cats that are ambush predators, as for bears, there are only black bears around, and they usually avoid people or run away from the sight or sounds of a person.

@Agrothewarhorse yes it's good that you're armed and the thing about black bears they do tend to runaway from a crowd of people but are attracted to the smell of food cooking as do the big cats I'm in Illinois ,seen my share of coyote. In broad daylight go after people's pets but no big cats , but you seem to. Enjoy camping ,out in the wilderness and you're a very beautiful woman and don't seem to be afraid so be careful be safe I will be looking forward to your next journey into the wild , there were these two Caucasian women that venture out into the woods I forget their names 1 had a well trained collie (lassie) she carry a side piece and. A. Rifle the other 1 carried a bow and Arrow and a Big knife spoke with an accent.i enjoyed their channel as well .

The first time I went backpacking was when I was 17, I had just gotten my drivers license and told my parents I was "camping with friends". Instead I backpacked for 4 days in the Adirondacks alone. Everyone will say its scary and dangerous to camp alone, but I think the risk is part of the beauty. There is absolutely something empowering about facing the wilderness alone and depending only on yourself should something happen. It builds confidence and a self reliance. I have of course tried camping with friends in subsequent trips but now that I'm 30 I can say that camping alone is easily my preferred way to spend time in nature. Thank you for picking up the trash left behind by others!

Greatly admire your bravado, but that is literally the exact opposite of what one should do, lol. Even the most burly, manliest of mountain men let someone know where they're going, how long they're gonna be there and when they're supposed to be back, so that if the worst happens rescue has a leg up on finding them.

one tip for ya, when casting your rod, don't have your lure all the way to the tip of your rod, have it hanging 12'''-16'' below the rod tip. It will cast much farther and smoother, give it try. And yes, therma cells do work or at least help, for sure. Enjoyed the video !

The "blabbing part" was one of the best parts. You're a natural! I like how you did the flashbacks and spoke of the sketchy moments. For obvious reasons, it's hard to film when stressed, PO-ed, or in what could quickly become a perilous situation. But, so long as you can safely do so, it does make for good TV. I wouldn't have even thought about filming the ice if I'd just started, and I still haven't attempted winter camping for KZbin! You're a hard worker and it shows! 👏

You’re not doing a thing wrong. As long as you’re happy, and being careful about not getting hurt, lost, or hypothermic, you’re fine. I’d suggest a few basics- Always have a way to create a quick shelter (a small tarp is gold), a change of dry clothes, a reliable way to start a fire, and a map / compass to get yourself out if needed (electronics fail). The more experienced you become, the smaller and more focused your gear list will become. Enjoy!

Just discovered your channel, happy to have found it when I did while your channel is so young! I live in Michigan, and have been to many of the best places this beautiful state has to offer. It's nice to see you discovering some of these places as well. I follow alot of the same type of channels you talked about, I would say that I have seen a few really good people making really good content get burned out on making the videos, trying to make a certain amount of content each week or month. Try not to fall into that trap, where it starts to feel like a job! (Making enough content for us subscribers)

When hiking in tick territory, put your hair all the way up and spray with (at least) Backwoods Off. They will literally drop out of the trees in bad tick situations, or when you go through tall brush they will catch a ride on long hair.
@Apeaceofthewoods
@Apeaceofthewoods 5 ай бұрын
Oh I had read that ticks crawl upwards from the ground vs falling from above. This is all based on just googling though because I’ve never actually seen a tick. I’ll do whatever to make sure I don’t get one so thank you for the advice!
@OneDown5Up
@OneDown5Up 5 ай бұрын
@@Apeaceofthewoods Usually that's the case, tall grass, etc., but in bad tick seasons they will also be up in the higher brush and small trees so they can sometimes catch a ride on you. Always check your hair, scalp, etc. They're obviously hard to spot. This happened to us up in N. Wisc. I always wear a hat covered in DEET or Permethrin if hiking in thicker woods.

I've set a date for traveling to one of the places you showed & as we messaged about a few weeks ago, I did go with my Dad last week and "test paddled" a couple of Esquif canoes (Adirondack and the Echo). I am still looking though and haven't quite pulled the trigger yet...

@@Apeaceofthewoods Sorry for the delayed response as I had some other stuff going on & then got away for a brief outing as well. I plan on going to the BILWA later this fall and am excited about that... BUT, I still need a canoe. Ha Ha - To answer your question, I like both Esquif canoes. The Adirondack is obviously shorter & cheaper. The Echo can store more gear and tracks a bit better due to the longer length. Hopefully I can get back up there to the store & look at a few other brands as well. Since it's the end of the season, there wasn't much in color choice, and although I don't think that matters a whole lot, I want to be excited about whatever my choice is after spending the money.

People in my circle don’t feel that way and even if I was to convince them to get out to these places with me, there would be so many limitations because of difference in comfort levels with nature. I can push myself when I go alone. And prepare for what’s next. Not saying this will always be the case, I’m sure at some point I’ll be sharing these adventures with another person that enjoys them as much as I do ☺️☺️ I will definitely be careful.
