I once met Marc. I was a gigging percussionist in NY and NJ, and was about to begin working with an Almond Brothers Tribute band. I asked Marc for some advice on his approach to working with the Almond Brothers. His answer was that his number one rule for that style of music - "Do the f_ _k what you want." In other words, feel it the way you feel it. Don't look at me...You be You. It was quite liberating to hear. After enough experience and practice under our belts, we must follow our own unique inner voice.

The pattern is a feeling of the coros as well. It goes “we don’t know, we don’t know.” Marc is also very talented in making chorus.

My brother, i like what you saying about mark Quinones, he used to live in my neighborhood, I'm his ex brother in law I'm Lefty ask him, he would practice his music almost everyday non stop, in fact he played with my ex band at my sister's wedding, i have to say his unique flavor is beyond the upmost, and you are correct he can Play different styles of music, and add his own style when he plays music, he can adopt to anything you put on his plate, i have the upmost respect for him.... Lefty ...

And he’s playing what I like to call Don Alias style of conga setup. Tumbao, Segundo & Quinto as opposed to Quinto in the middle of the tumbao & segundo. ♥️ it!

.....I was not aware.....The Moses credit was not on his AllMusic. First they take the book of Enoch out of the Bible, and now this! Marc is a super nice guy! Met him a couple times at Allman Bros Band shows. Great vid! Glad that you made this one. Part of the pattern reminds me of the Ralph MacDonald tumbao!!! Pleased that you added the rock gigs, and talked about other genres! Shtuff's important. ...Moses.... 🏔️ 🤭

Eric. Check out his conga playing on the Jerry Rivera “ fresco “ record. He’s on all the even track numbers. Also the Charlie Cruz record from “ Asi Soy “. He has some nice conga rhythms on these.

Hi Eric. What a coincidence: Just yesterday I thought “let’s have a look if Eric already did a “Marc Quinones Video”. And… there it was… on almost first place… As you said, Marc Quinones has been a hero for me (for sure not only for me) for decades… On Congas; and Timbales, Thank you for appreciating him here! Just a little while ago I got aware of another Great: Jose “Juicy” Jusino! Uno de los Rumberitos tambien. I especially discovered him playing on “A Night Of Salsa” of Celia Cruz. In these videos (KZbin) specifically the (m ain) conga player caught my attention. And I was really flashedby his playing, his very clean sound, perfect timing, tasteful fills etc… For ex.: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2raXmlqaK15hKc) While I would call Marc Quinones an elegant player, I would say that Juicy Jusion belongs more to the category “Salsa Dura”. With an extremely hard sounding slap (as far as I can tell from here… Germany). And a perfect rock hard timing (“Masacote Gordo” I think he likes to say…) Would it be an idea to pay tribute to him in an article too? Although he has played and plays with the big ones, he seems to me to be somewhat underrepresented... maybe underrated… For ex.: instagram.com/juicyjusino/ Anyway; Thank you again for your brilliant work! Saludos desde Alemania! Joachim
