Basically because horizons is tampering with time travel to get back to her son, with Alters interference it's gone wrong so all these rift have started opening which is what pulled lifeline drone (DOC) In so with lifeline reaching into the rift to save DOC she severely damaged her arm and its now a prosthetic in game and there's interactions between horizon and lifeline, with horizon being very apologetic but lifeline being annoyed and a little distance with horizon but still civil to not cause arguments 😬

This is one of those times where a lot of context for the trailers happens through ingame voice lines and comics. The first trailer pretty much just introduces the newest map E-District, which is where the Altered Horizons trailer took place, establishing the suspicious alliance between Alter and Horizon (who could've guessed!?) Between the 1st trailer and the other two though, it is made clear that Alter has her own agenda. Alter goes out of her way to taunt Ash, who betrayed Horizon while she was still human, saying that she will get a time travel device to work to see her son. Ash is simply annoyed at first, but her split evil personality then realizes that if Horizon goes back in time, she will have her position outed before the betrayal and cease to exist as she does in the present. Meanwhile, Alter gives Horizon the missing piece to get the time machine to work, a contraption from a different dimension. Horizon has doubts about the safety, but Alter manipulates her into putting everything together with dreams of seeing her child again. Finally, Ash breaks into the lab and after an internal argument between her personalities, ends up destroying the time machine, creating the huge purple rift that connects to other dimensions that you see in the second and third trailers. Lifeline and DOC get critically injured by the rift, which ends up with her getting an ingame rework, and the rift reveals the original version of the game, with only the original characters, guns, map, etc. playable for a limited time. Overall as an Apex player i thought it was amazing to see unfold, though i wish they did more context building through animated trailers so people outside the game could have fun connecting the dots for themselves.

I realized that apex and blizzard the gaming company that owns overwatch and world of Warcraft take a ton of inspiration off each other because the last trailer gave shadowlands vibes with Sylvannas Windrunner and they’ve helped each other out slot
