It's hard to fathom Apocalyptica's journey after this. From being called a cheap cover brand, to playing Wagner with orchestra and circus performances all the way to being the most respected cello-driven band collaborating with the band that started them. This is incredible. Hats off to you, men. Rock on! 🤘🤘

Metallica was never known as a cover band. When Metallica first started, they did do their own versions of covers but did not tell anyone they were performing covers and nobody knew any different and Metallica was never called or known as a "cover band". Also Apocalyptica may be a cover band of sorts, they were never know as a cheap cover band but a band that did fantastic reimagined covers of songs and made them their own.

I love James narrating his lyrics instead of singing them. It makes it feel more personal like reading a letter that was written before he lost his limbs, hearing and sight by an explosion. But knowing that it’s just happening inside his head. It’s heavy

Me too. The helplessness of the guy's situation is magnified more that way. This is just so epic that now with the Cielo accenting the feel of the song, it' has spread its wings even more...and of course the mind-blowing guitar solo replicated note for note, which is just so perfectly executed!

There's a part of me that wishes James had actually sung on this, but it doesn't matter, not when you hear all the rest of it. Somehow he managed to ignore a vocal melody he's sung hundreds (if not thousands) of times, and make the delivery of each line meaningful. That takes tremendous work and effort. There are hints of Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits in his voice. It sounds fantastic. The orchestration and every other decision made on this song make it new and original. Having a fresh take on a classic is no easy task, but this does it to perfection. It's almost more of a musical art piece than a song, and that's more than okay.

Although people Commented they didn’t like James speaking instead of singing, that made this version special to me! It made it has its own flavor. If he had sang like he’s used to sing, it would be just another cover with James making it sound as the original version. The fact that he spoke the lyrics made me focused on the drama of the lyric itself instead of the vocal melody, making the song look as a movie. Awesome version!

This is a video and an interpretation that really touched my soul, it's moving and intense and a very different interpretation from your previous cover of ONE and yet equally beautiful. ::takes a deep breath:: WHEW! That wasn't just a cover song, that wasn't just an EPIC music video, that wasn't even a symphonic metal MASTERPIECE. That, ladies and gentlemen, was an entire EXPERIENCE!!! Patric Ullaeus has completely surpassed himself as a film director and cinematographer. The juxtaposition of the majestically beautiful cellos and James Hetfield actually speaking the lyrics instead of growling them out was just completely HAUNTING! Having listened to this song literally THOUSANDS of times over the last 30 plus years or so, we have certain expectations when we start hearing those oh so familiar chords and notations playing. Even the eponymous S&M album from over 25 years ago, with it's overly bombastic and brutal orchestral version gave us yet another aspect to the song that we have grown to accept and cherish over the years. THIS, quite literally and simply, destroys EVERY expectation and preconception ONE might have about how this song should sound. Is it the definitive version? NO, we already have that one, and it's perfect in its own right. THIS is simply an offering and homage delivered with love, respect, passion and class. Tough, dirty, gritty, ugly, brutal. But, that's WAR folks. Everyone involved in this project came into it with a very clear picture of what they intended to achieve, and they completely surpassed them. THIS is one of those videos that's going to stick with you for a VERY long time. Apocalyptica has given us something we never even knew we needed, and now that we have it, we're NEVER letting it go.

Man, this was some UNBELIEVABLY cool shit. From just a cover band, to playing with the band you once paid homage to. I'd rather have had James singing in this version as well, but I don't dislike the spoken poetry. And I think it is eventually what will immortalize this song, to the point that many people will choose this "cover", which is a moniker I wouldn't give to it if you asked me, over the original. Fantastic rendition of the original, no matter how you put it.

When the face-melting solo kicked in after the bridge, I said, loudly, "HOLY SHIT!" My husband looked at me like, "wtf?" and I had to tell him "it's the solo from 'One' being shredded on a cello!" He wasn't impressed. I think it's time for a divorce! 😂

Check out the old Apocalyptica Songs, those where they were just 4 Cellos, no Drums, maybe a feature voice every now and then. I loved the purity of those, so much energy in those, so much better than this.

@@SihmunathThere has been nothing peaceful about the last 80 years. Civilain massacres all over the world, like in Cyprus and Syria, the Gulf war, the 6 day war, Ukraine, Russia, Palestine, Israel, Vietnam, Korea, just from the top of my head.

But the sad thing is that no one really knows about the 'silent war.' The anti-poaching war. We are in the midst of the mass extinction because of the depletion of biodiversity and people risking their lives and lives of their families to protect what is left and no one knows. The things that poachers and other people from the illegal wildlife trade do to the animals are the worst imaginable horror possible. Watch RHINO MAN the movie and follow Global Conservation Corps and The Zoo of Queensland. There you will learn about the horrors of the silent war.

Thank you guys for bringing us all together with your passion. Thanks for all you guys do. Mr. James Hetfield, the way you approached this collab and the choice to speak was perfect. It really put forth emotions that needed to be felt. The original always will remain a masterpiece of a classic. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this. This was not a disappointment and I just want everyone to know who worked on this, you guys are awesome 👍😎
