When I saw Apocalyptica last year in Atlanta, I got to see this live for the first time since my abuser died. I had my entire childhood stolen from me after being abused from god only knows how young til the age of 14. While my abuser wasn't clergy, he was highly respected within his church. I didn't realize I was going to ball my eyes out while I was singing this at the top of my lungs. It was such a healing moment for me and the start of me healing from the inside out. I didn't know at the time that I needed that amount of healing and completely thought I was through all of it. How wrong I was. To Apocalyptica: You've always gotten me through the tough times. Thank you for making this song and allowing me to listen to it on repeat whenever I need to. You guys are amazing and you'll never truly know how much your music means to me. I cant wait til you guys come back to the states so I can do another 11 shows. ❤❤❤

Shitsticks. I'm so incredibly sorry you went through that. I hate even more that you're not alone in this. Far too many of us are survivors of abuse. I am so jealous that you got to see them live! One of these days, they'll be in my area and I will definitely see them!!! Keep on kickin all the arse and takin all the names!!!💙
@Brianna.Crawford6 ай бұрын
@@nikkidimick947 please don't be sorry. It's nobody's fault but his and I can only do better for my kids. But you are correct, too many of us are survivors. Go see them though, even if you have to travel. I have traveled the entirety of the East Coast of the United States to see them live and have met tons of amazing people along the way in the last 15-ish years. It's always exhausting, but always a blast and worth the week long+ recovery period between arthritis from an old ankle injury and the post-show adrenaline letdown I go through every single time. When they come back to the States, I'll be going to the DC, Philadelphia, and Boston shows and I cannot wait!

@@nikkidimick947 even if you have to travel, go see them! They're absolutely amazing! They're never in my area so I've had to travel to all the shows I've been to. "And the innocence you spoiled found a way to live." The whole song is amazing but that line is what hits me. Because that is what I take from this song: hope. For me, that is the greatest revenge to the people who hurt me, to show that it didn't break me. That I rose above it and I'm thriving despite what they did. My innocence may have been taken and my soul stained because of it but I am stronger than my trauma and I will keep moving forward and better my life because that is the ultimate win. You are better than what happened to you and you can find a way above it. ❤

Given Corey's recent coming out about his sexual abuse when he was a child at the hands of someone older he trusted, this really gets an extra punch to it in terms of understanding his passion and rage. This song has gotten better with time but for all the "wrong" reasons.

God. This song is so old now, but it still gives me chills-- it's such an incredible change to see victims of abuse portrayed as powerful and intimidating rather than pitiful broken birds. We're something that our abusers should be afraid of, living proof of their crimes, and that's... something VERY powerful to think about.
@melissawhite46202 жыл бұрын
@vodkasvoice OMG, *Thank You* for this comment. It came when I needed to hear that most. Literally as I was trying to book trauma counseling, my abusers tried to break through the call. Because of my parents, I am permanently disabled due to spinal damage, head trauma, multiple fractures, and CPTSD. They were “respected deacons in their church.” Even had me exorcised, saying my pleas to others for help were pathological lies, and *they* were the true victims. Well, I’m not shutting up. “We are the evidence of their crimes” as Indian activist John Trudell once said. We own our rage, our pain, and our power. Much love to you, fellow survivor! ✊

Nowhere else remotely appropriate to share this, so bear with me... I'm 34. At 14, I was in 8th grade at a Catholic boarding school in the middle of Indiana, and I had no friends save for one staff member, Mr Shannon. As I got older i got a weird impression of my memories of that time, and now I realize how badly I was groomed by him. He ended up getting fired for touching a kid, which my innocent young self associated with a fight, not a fondle. I was thinking about my time there, and remembered why he got fired and it all made sense, including the things he would say to me and how much time he spent around me. It's really disheartening, because I really thought he was a friend. I was 33 years old by the time I put everything together, and it really just hurts. Thanks for listening.

“I've thought you were a good man I've thought you talked to God You Hippocratic, messianic, child abusing, turned satanic”! Gives me anger and chills everytime .

Seems unfair to Satan though. The guy never claimed to worship Satan only God, and the all powerful God did nothing to stop it despite it being done by a person claiming to represent him. Satan's getting a bad rap there

I didn't listen to this song for a very long time because I was thinking this is blasphemy... But the stress, betrayal, mistreatment Brought me here I again And I realized this ain't blasphemy. It was wrong of me to avoid anger but then again anger saves me from depression instead of avoiding anger I should have utilized it instead.

This song has huge meaning. I was a blind Christian but came to senses recently... a God who cannot protect his followers is not a God..

Powerful song which helps give a voice of healthy anger for survivors of child abuse. Has anyone else noticed he sings Hippocratic" in the lyrics "I've thought you were a good man I've thought you talked to God You hippocratic, messianic, child abusing, turned satanic"? Does he mean the abuser was a follower of Hippocrates the Greek philosopher or a medical doctor who pledges the Hippocratic oath? ...or does he mean hippocritical, but that word doesn't scan well? Even though hippocritic is not a word, it would still be more accurate than hippocratic, unless the abuser he refers to was a medical Doctor.

I think it was supposed to be "hypocritic."
