@JerehmiaBoaz3 жыл бұрын
@@wl7170 This is supposed to be a "sensitive song" about a lonely sailor who's trying to seduce a prostitute. Hagen's interpretation substitutes the somewhat effeminate fragility of the original with a powerful "manly" voice and she sings the song's sad ending like it's a joke ("I'll remain alone in the end, time is standing still and i'm cold")

The Sailor Come into my boat A storm is rising and night is falling Where are you going? All alone you're drifting off Who's going to hold your hand When it's pulling you down under Where are you going? The cold sea is shoreless. Come into my boat The autumn wind keeps the sails taut. Now you're standing there by the lantern With tears in your face Daylight falls aside The autumn wind sweeps the street empty Now you're standing there by the lantern Got tears in your face Evening light chases the shadows away Time's standing still and autumn's falling Come into my boat The longing becomes the steersman Come into my boat Wasn't I the best sailor? Now you're standing there by the lantern Got tears in your face You take your fire from the candle Time's standing still and autumn's falling They spoke only about your mother Only night is so merciless In the end I stay alone Time's standing still And I am cold Cold... Cold...

@@hillarysemails1615 most people say its about prostitution "hafennutte" i don`t know if there is an equivalent word in english. "Now you're standing there by the lantern" (Jetzt stehst du da bei der Laterne) is a strong indicator for the topic of prostitution. some say its about a broken relationship that drove her in to prostitution others that the person singing is in love with a prostitute und wants her to stay with him but it wouln´t be Rammstein if the interpretation was obvious

@frankmeyer99842 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the translation, which is almost flawless! Only point I would criticise is the line "Der beste Seemann war doch ich!", which is not a question, but a strong argumentation. It forces the other person to remember back, and reflect at the time together. It's comparable to the question "Wasn't it a great time, when we were a couple?", but with a twist. Indicating that a sailor/captain is steering the boat, and the other person is the passenger. One is "sub", the other is "dom". I hope that you can follow my thoughts, English is not my native language 😉
@soerenseegert84662 жыл бұрын
For understanding the line “you take your fire from the candle” you may want to take into consideration that there is this superstition among sailors never to to take fire from a candle because it is believed that whenever someone does that a sailor dies.

Apocalyptica is the reason I found Nina Hagen's music. I had always thought Björk was completely original until I heard Nina's older music Nina is one of a kind.

Grazie nina, sono passati quaranta tre anni dalla prima volta che ti ho ascoltato ed ancora oggi che ti ascolto dico a me stesso di avere riconosciuto un angelo. Ancora 1000 volte grazie.

Nina Hagen is a Legend in Germany. Traditionally educated in eastern Germany, but more closely related to western punk rock. Great voice above all, and a message to it (concerning totalitarianism). You should never forget, she did all that also in a time where it could spell oblivion to take a stand against the regime .yet, she staid true to herself. I really admire her, wholeheartedly. As a west German. And not the only one. Ask the others. As to the original text: there are a lot of references to traditional German mythology, if you intend to delve into this and feel fit to do so. If you're not, well, things aren't always as easy as they may seem.

"lot of references to traditional German mythology" Und was sind das für Methaphern, oder Anlehnungen an die deutsche Mythologie?

She sounds dark, sexy, creepy and on fire the same time. The lower voice is just breathtaking. I love Nina since I'm a child. Germanys best musician. 👌🏽 What an incredible talent she has. Unbelievable Nina, du bist einfach die Geilste 👌🏽 ich feier das Cover so. 🎶🦄

I left Europe in the early 90 for Australia and their music scene. Good to see Nina is still pumping. She's still got it and I love that she still sings in German

Brilliant. The way she uses her voice as an instrument in itself. Her vibrato, the way she rolls the words. What she did at 3:03 and at 3:12 absolute wow

It's incredible how the same lyrics, sung by Till are so sad, and sung by Nina, are so gloomy, but I like her version. Also the music cover by Apocalyptica is so good.
