That's just for precautions that it doesn't fall during the presentation, some humanoids still fall on occasions, even if they are 99% of the time doing okay standing up, it would kinda ruin the presentation if on the rare occasion it does slip/fall/malfunction. So many external things can get in the way of walking.
@jeffsteyn71747 ай бұрын
Yeah because walking is the most valuable part of a robot. The autonomous part is what is valuable. You can put it on wheels and it can still move around. Infact if you look at Amazon fulfillment centres the packet doesn't need to move. The products come to it.

I think he's right about the "Cambrian explosion." If you look into robotics there is so much more than the humanoid form factor, although imo that is the most impressive one. They also have this incredible robotic dolphin that I honestly couldn't tell was a robot. I would love more realistic robotic animals like tigers, or monkeys, or exotic birds. I would also love mini humanoids, perhaps that could fly. If you've seen Chobits they do a great version of showing a hypothetical reality in which humans and robots live together in all sorts of ways. As someone who has been following this topic for over 20 years I'm so excited! So many people have worked so hard for this, his relay race metaphor is perfect.

I should be content just upvoting the "meh" comments, but I do think it should be said: This demo is not helpful. This demo does not show any advancement. If anything, it seems like a step backward. This demo could have been orchestrated 50 years ago, and indeed, is no improvement of the Disney "imagineer" attractions we've been seeing in amusement parks. Want to impress us? Show us actual interaction, show us your robot walking (Boston Dynamics has been doing this for years already), show it interacting with truly randomly placed objects. What they demoed wasn't even a good magic trick, and judging by the non-response of the audience at SWSX, they were just as disappointed as I am. This demo stunned nobody.
