I thought I’d never stop smoking cigs, God delivered me 2 years into my relationship. I was still smoking weed all day, every day. Never thought I’d give that up, 45 days ago God said “You’re done”. I wasn’t delivered from withdrawal. It was a horrible first two weeks! I was sure I would t make it!!!!! But through constant prayer, fellowship and scripture, He brought me through it!!! Little by little, in obedience, He is transforming me! So thankful!

Yes and genuine prayer to our Lord is also - if not the most powerful thing to do. We as Christians must understand that it’s not our own strength that enables us to turn from sin - it’s the Lord at work giving us the strength to turn from sin. Having others holding us accountable is one thing but also realising (if you have indeed been born again) that our God is ALWAYS watching us. He is the greatest one that holds us accountable- MARANATHA - Amen.

But the next morning was pure joy! For the next year I literally high on Jesus, for lack of a better description. I understand this guys question so well cause it is difficult especially when trying to do it alone and not trusting God with your sin or enjoying it so much you don’t want to let it go. It does hurt and it is hard. But I know the outcome of plucking is SO much more than keeping it.

Preach the good news. Be ready at all times, and tell people what they need to do. Tell them when they are wrong. Encourage them with great patience and careful teaching, because the time will come when people will not listen to the true teaching but will find many more teachers who please them by saying the things they want to hear. They will stop listening to the truth and will begin to follow false stories. 2 Timothy 4:2-4 NCV 💒

Good message as far as it goes. Having someone keep you accountable is a great tool, but you can't drag a Christian around with you wherever you go. How about taking every thought captive. As soon as you recognize that you are being tempted to sin, take your thoughts captive. Change your thinking. One great way to do that is to pray. If you are lusting toward someone, just start praying for that person. Pray they come to know Jesus and/or be sanctified. Pray and ask God for the Holy Spirit to give you strength and to show you the way out of your temptation. When you kill a sin, it often times resurrects itself later. You must persevere in killing it until it stays dead. That is when you are no longer tempted by it and your heart has been transformed.

Kill the roots of sin with the Axe of Repentance ... Romans 8 12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation-but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

I really appreciated these thoughts. I would just add one thing. 17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Hebrews 2 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4 They go together. We have our part to do; but, we don't have to do it all alone. Jesus promises to help us if we ask Him.

The church in Corinth were sinning with each other so I have to say that the word of God and living by the Spirit of God through prayer is your only lasting hope of putting sin to death. Yes, you should flee from sin but can’t use this as a long term strategy through accountability, other wise you are only as strong as each other. We must resist by the power of God and remain in the vine. Sin no more.

I’m agreeing with mostly all of this. But I’m not grasping where the “you’ll slowly stop sinning” part comes in. Saying that sounds like it’s saying “you’re going to stumble again”, which when you’re faced with the next temptation, that thought comes to mind. It pretty much justifies your next sin because “you are going to sin again anyhow”. And it’s a constant cycle. And I’ve known many people repeat this cycle and are not able to escape. I believe the answer is remaining in holiness. Yes, God will forgive those who fall back into flesh, but we gotta stop “prophesying” by saying “you will stumble again”. It’s shifts our focus to our sin and gives us a blanket to fall on. When we stumble, it should wreck us! We should be ashamed to know what was right and have done wrong. Not cuddled and told “there, there. It’s okay. You were bound to do this anyhow.” Is this making sense???
@shaneetsingh85317 жыл бұрын
I think what Jeff means is that the more we start becoming like Jesus, showing love to others, glorifying him, praising him, enjoying being with him. Our hearts will start becoming love. Desire to sin will start becoming less and less as our hearts starts changing. Otherwise forcing yourself to do good is just works, not an expression of love which is what it is meant to be.
@A-t-r-u-s7 жыл бұрын
There's a difference between the occasional acts of sin that we will do 1 John 1:8 and habitual sin 1 John 3:6. Salvation should not be seen as a point in time but rather a point of beginning. As we grow in Christ, it will cause our relationship to sin change. But, we will never been perfectly holy or righteous. We will always have those occasional acts of sin, which God is faithful to forgive. Those who know they are sinning and continue i.e sexual immorality, do not have a regenerated spirit.

I agreed with most of what you are teaching brother. But I don't believe that we will keep on sinning till Jesus comes. Jesus will never save us in our sins but From our SINS. (Matt 1:21). If we say we cant stop sinning that means we are saying that Satan is more powerful than God. Living a sinless life or victory over sin is possible through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. In this final generation God will produce a group of people who will give up every sins in their lives and will be willing to surrender all to God, this will vindicate the character of God before the whole universe. Remember we cannot believe and trust our own feelings, emotion, experience to interpret the scripture, we must let the Bible explain it self. Rev 14:12 says, here is the patient of the saints, here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus" Sinlessness is possible through the creative power of God. This is the final group which John describes that will be seal in their foreheads (Rev 7:1-4) not because they were forced but because of allow God to work in their lives to manifest His character in them.

Even leaders still struggle with sin even after years of being in front of people for years...a full sinless life is not possible this side of earth or else Jesus wouldn’t need to come back and “save” us. It would be called perfection. Besides we still have death and sickness and faithlessness and anger and each other to deal with till then, which means we could never be perfect but struggling along with Jesus’ approval and blessing which is closer to the meaning of redemption and sanctification instead of earthly perfection....
@dimitartodorov48262 жыл бұрын
@@clarencenatomagan9413 Someone being a leader doesn't mean he is right on certain topic. We have the Holy Spirit, God living in us. Why wouldn't be possible to live without sinning when God Himself is in us and gives us power and a way to escape every temptation?
@paulfoor73886 жыл бұрын
Something that always bugs me about the Calvinist's emphasis on "God changing one's heart" and "total inability and depravity" is the seemingly constant contradiction that underlies all of their messages. On the one hand - "You cannot do anything to please God, He must change your heart and He will do so only if He so pleases!" And on the other - "Repent! Turn from your sin!" It's like, why are you telling people to repent? Repentance is something God grants as a gift right? Not something that individuals can choose to do. So don't tell individuals to repent, all you can do is plead with God to grant them repentance it seems. That is the only way i can think to bridge that contradiction, and it still doesnt seem like that strong of a bridge. Thoughts?

What about when you pray and beg God for forgiveness and to save you through his son Jesus’s crucifixion and resurrection and you still struggle so so so much and are looking for a glimpse that you’re doing better and can’t find it. When you know and believe that Hod heats your prayers and answers them yet you feel like either he’s answering with a no or you’re the one who’s not praying hard enough or believing enough. What do you do then. When you can’t think of or find in the Bible a thing that you’ve missed, yet feel like nothing’s different. What then?

@@MichelleCasandraMindofChrist It would teach that God decreed every one of our sins from eternity, so our sins are outside our control. We cannot really change we just wait for God to make us stop commiting a certain sin. That's one of the clearest examples how wrong is the calvinist view of God.
