I was a thru hiker in 2008. Trail name was Apostle. I was hiking after the loss of my wife to cancer. I haven't followed anyone over the past 16 years, until now. I happened across your site and your hike is bringing back so many precious memories from the trail. I have one comment about your trail name, if I may be so arrogant. Bandit conjures up images of a thief, which I'm sure you're not. It may be too late to reconsider, but I would like to offer for your consideration "WoodChuck." You're in the woods and, well, you're Chuck. How many miles could WoodChuck chuck...if his ankle was feeling better? Prayers for safety and many inspirations coming your way. I've told folks The AT is Gods great outdoor cathedral. Be blessed as you walk through it.

I’m not a doctor but I think it’s okay to pause for a few days to get your ankle checked out. That injury could possibly end your hike if you don’t address it. Persevering in this case would be holding yourself accountable to get treatment and recover from it to get back on the trail.

You are doing a fine job with the ankle, and also very wise to assess your injury. I understand the down hill being the worst. Take care. I guess I am a little selfish for wanting you to keep going. Blessings to you. I had a total dislocation, broken tibia and fibula that required plates and screws at the age of 64. Twisted my ankle going down a step. I knew immediately is was broke. I was fortunate to have a ortho dr. that believed in using it after 2 weeks! My son owns a strength and conditioning business. I would drive 6 hours every week to get a new regime for that week.

Hey, Chuck! I think the rainbow ankle will be fine in a few days if you don't nonchalant it and aggravate the injury. Concerning your question about the greenery, the basic difference between rhododendron and mountain laurel is that rhododendron is larger. Taller and wider with bigger leaves and blooms. Take care.
