After hearing a lot about rocks in PA and nearly nothing about NY, I'm convinced that NY has a much better pr dept.

You are guys are doing great!! Watching bluegrass come up those rocks his pack seems to be moving side to side a lot. Should it be tighter or does he prefer it looser? I would be afraid it would throw me off balance moving side to side, but I’m watching from my couch and you guys have put in almost 1500 miles so you know best. I was just curious. Hike on heading north we will see you when you get here 😊
@ChuckHowell-Outdoors9 сағат бұрын
It can be tightened, and we do from time to time off the terrain gets real bad, but it puts a lot of strain on the shoulders so we normally keep it loose

The view of lake Canopus was nice. I could hear the people on the beach plainly. I've seen that phone of the winds on many videos and people using it. The trail magic at your campsite looked good. Sparks must've really flown to finish in four months. I've only seen one video where a guy made it in four months. He was a retired Marine. Glad Bluegrass is doing well and you too. Happy trails.

According to another hiker I am following this year, WaffleHikes, there once was a forge located somewhere in that area, pack teams were used to drag or move materials along this elevated wall. Waffle Hikes, is hiking the AT this year with his son, Hawk Eye, they are both from NC. And they seem to be within a day or two of you and BlueGrass. Maybe you'll get to meet them.

Glad your didn't get hurt in either of your falls. I understand fully what you mean about not trusting your gear. I messed up my ankle a couple months back when I just planted my foot the wrong way in a rocky section and now I'm very gunshy about doing it again. Not sure that any shoe is super grippy on wet rocks but I got a pair of Topo Traverses in the hopes that they provide better traction than I've been getting - they are well rated for that. I'm excited to see you guys making it into territory I'm familiar with. Shame you were socked in atop Bear Mountain as the views there are superlative. I've never climbed that mountain on the east side of the bridge but I know it's a tough one. There are rattlers through the CT section though they are rarely seen. Probably a few up in southern MA as well then you should be done with them. We have had some nasty fronts move through here in north central CT and I'm sure you've been hit with a couple this week. Hope to see you weathered them ok in future installments. You guys are doing great!

16 miles through that is darn good. Congrats on 1400! I'm considering doing that area myself sooner than later and have been reading some comments on FarOut disparaging all the difficult rocky ups and downs. I chuckled when you said "Really?" when looking up at one such section. I said that myself multiple times last week when on Mount Monadnock in NH.

Go for it! Sometimes you just have to wonder how it’s expected to go over some obstacles

Did that section in 2022. As I watched the video it all came back to me. My adrenaline was so high, when I got to the end of "The Knife's Edge" all of sudden I relaxed and started to slowly fall backwards onto a rock. A Hiker named "Candyman" was right behind me, caught my pack, and eased me down to sit on the rock. He came down around to the bottom and said, "Hi, I'm Candyman. You want a Jolly Rancher." BCM
