Hi there! Thanks so much! This was a video we did before we set out in March 2024. We walked 758.8 miles before homesickness took over. We are trying again and leaving in February 2025. We are Hiking for Healing in Appalachia to raise awareness and funds after Hurricane Helene. We wish you happy trails and hope to see you out there! ☺️

Best gear rundown evah! 😊 I am over the moon at how organized you guys are, and you have amazing quality gear. The meal cozy you used for your Sawyer and electronics was brilliant! 2 power banks instead of 1, inflation system for the pads, 70L pack to accommodate LB if needed...all very smart decisions. 👍 I'm a firm believer in compartmentalization too Mama. Keeps things and weight distribution in place. Did you guys figure out the belt situation? Bravo, Bravo, Bravo ladies, you are sooo prepared! Adorable cat Little Bear. 🐈 Great rundown guys!

... WOW !! What a thorough load out video ... Great job ... Can't get over how comfortable Little Bear is in front of the camera ,, Her confidence is amazing .. What pocket is the Kitty going in ,, might be the hardest thing to be without for her .. Surprised to hear you don't feel the temp comfort difference while using the Reactor liner ,, but as you mentioned your quilt and pad are top quality .. might want to brief over this video as you pack up , to not forget the couple items mentioned .. Great idea to put water filter and electronics in the pot cozy for added warmth , Don't think I've ever heard anyone mention that before .. With the start approaching ,, I'm sure the days are flying by ... Stay Safe and God Bless ...

Thanks so much! We hope it’s helpful! Little Bear is pretty awesome! 😎 I love hearing her thoughts and seeing the world through her eyes. It will definitely be difficult for her to leave Ellie the Cat. I was happy when she made Ellie her Bear bag pic. Yeah, I think because the pad is so warm, coupled with the quilt, it’s already so warm. I’m making a physical check list for both Little Bear and I once we are ready to set off so we don’t forget anything. And if we do, we’ll pick it up in town.

Well done ladies. Might I suggest a 1 gallon zip lock solely for trash? I got one and it lasted me to Harper's Ferry where I replaced it. For me it worked great, kept it in an outside pouch. Looking forward to following you on your adventure.

Thank you! 🙏🏼 That’s what we use for trash. We pack our food in daily gallon zip lock bags, so we always have one available for trash (since we carry 4-5 days of food at a time, we have several), as well as any other need that may arise.

I know you're both excited to get on trail by now. I think you'll appreciate and use the down booties more than you think. I didn't think I would use mine at all but really was glad I had them on a few cold nights and I left Mid March as well. You both might want to consider if you haven't a bandana to hang off your front pack straps for sweat and wiping your nose (especially when cold) because it will run quite a bit. Also is anyone carrying body glide or vaseline in case of chafing? So excited for you guys to get started and hope to see you out there😊
@wildflowersadventures
@wildflowersadventures 11 ай бұрын
Yes! Every day it gets a little more exciting! I’ll probably go ahead and carry the down booties. They’re so lightweight, almost negligible. And yes!! Thank you for the bandana reminder! We actually forgot it on the FHT trip and we really missed it with our cold, runny noses! Pulling those out today and putting them back on our shoulder straps. We don’t have any body glide, but I’ll grab some. We’ve never experienced chafing before, but I hear it’s pretty painful. 😣 Thanks for your helpful advice. We appreciate you!

@wildflowersadventures
@wildflowersadventures 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s nice. I don’t know that it actually adds that much warmth. It’s hard for me to tell because my sleeping pad is so warm, especially when added with my 10 degree quilt. It did get down to the mid to high 20’s, and I was warm without it, too.

Thanks for sharing! I’m going to look into your battery banks and see if they are lighter than my current one. I can’t decide on the down booties either. I’ve been very indecisive about whether to keep my current heavy pack or go with a UL. I love my REI Traverse but it’s 3.8 with the brain removed. My base weight is going to be 17 to 18 lbs I believe with the heavy pack. Yes, a couple more months. Can’t wait to get out there!!🙏
@wildflowersadventures
@wildflowersadventures 11 ай бұрын
You’re welcome! I hear ya on not being able to decide on your pack since you like it and it works for you; however, I always recommend reducing pack weight as much as possible without compromising safety. Those pounds add up quickly and increase the likelihood of injury. And it makes for harder miles. I love my HMG bag. It’s my favorite thing. It rides so well and is 38oz. My base weight is around 15lbs, I think. I need to re-weigh it since we’ve decided on what we’re taking now. I forgot to do that before we did the video and unpacked it.
@TiggerTellsTales
@TiggerTellsTales 11 ай бұрын
I’m glad you like your pack and it’s helpful to hear from a woman about a pack. Most reviews are male based and we are just different. I will probably go with a UL pack to save the 1.5 lbs. Thanks for your input, so helpful!

It will most certainly be cold in March. I would plan on over night lows dropping into the low 20s some nights. Daytime highs might not get out of the 30s some days. Plan on cold rain and probably snow. Weather that time of year is all over the place. Keep all your cold weather gear until its been warm out for at least 2 weeks. Probably end of April. If it wasn't a cold night, I used my puffy jacket, which stuffs in its own pocket, as a pillow. I had started March 23rd with a 30 degree quilt, and I used a puffy jacket and puffy pants for the cold nights. But the 10 degree bags sound much more cozy.

Yeah, I’ve done that as well. Or, even better, I wrap my puffy around my pillow and it’s sooo snuggly! The 10 degree bag and the Nemo Extreme pad were awesome! It only sucked when you had to get out of the quilt. 😂

The one thing I would suggest adding to your kit would be burn cream. You will be around open flames and boiling water in a community setting. The last time I was burned it was boiling water spilled on me and the water soaked into fabric and stayed in contact with my skin long enough to create a third degree burn. We had a water source in camp so access to a cold compress wasn’t a problem but, even after an hour, every time I removed the compress my skin felt like it was on fire. I also had to keep re-soaking the compress in spring water as my body would warm it and it would no longer provide relief. Once I applied Maximum Strength Alocane Emergency Burn Gel, with 4% Lidocaine, the pain subsided and I was able to go to sleep. I never had to reapply the gel and the skin didn’t start to peel until ten days later. That Lidocaine was the key - it’s the maximum strength you can get without a prescription. Of course I don’t carry the whole tube - I transferred it into something like you have for sunscreen. LiteSmith and GarageGrownGear both sell nice containers.

Yes, for sure! Thank you! We do have some burn cream in our kit. I’ve seen several vloggers get burned, mostly by their water, and we take such extreme precautions because of that. Burns hurt on another level and getting burned out on trail seems like a nightmare. I’m so sorry you experienced that, but I’m thankful you came here to remind us to make sure we have the first aid to deal with it if it happens. 🙏🏼 Thank you! 😊

I’m enjoying your videos. I’ve hiked the foothills several times, and hundreds of miles on the AT. A couple of suggestions you can take or leave, about what to take and leave! Chap stick in the belly bag. Liquid 100% deet. A couple of drops go a long way. Duct tape wrapped on your hiking poles can save the day. Be sure and try the belts you want to bring under your packs. A lot of them get uncomfortable quickly. Make sure they unfasten easily. I would 100% keep the rain pants!!! You can wear them while doing laundry, wear them over your shorts when you fleece lined pants get too hot (since you keep insisting they are the greatest) and to keep your camp clothes dry. Wear your hat, and your body and hands will be warmer. I’ve slept in mine a bunch of times. Ive used Trash compactor bags for years hiking and kayak camping. They are almost indestructible, and even though your pack is a dry bag, it is nice to be able to separate your wet tent from your dry clothes, or as hikers say, your not quite dry tent from your not quite wet clothes.. My tent ground cloth is my luxury item. I don’t like Tyvek because unless you’ve run it thru 100 wash cycles, it is too noisy, for those of us who toss and turn. I put my gear on it to repack. I get up in the morning, remove my fly and shake it off, drape it in the breeze, before fixing my morning drink. A cloth specific to your tent helps provide the support before you stake down. After I’ve packed all my gear, I retrieve the tent fly and wad it in the outside mesh of my pack, to dry again when I stop for a break, and roll up when it is dry, or almost dry. Lol. Don’t put unreal demands on yourself for posting KZbin videos. Real time stuff has its own unique set of problems. Enjoy your hike. You two are going to have a ball. Trail name MERCY

Awesome video! I love the gear rundown🧐 Yous obviously love your gear and really seem to have it together. I'm happy for the both of you. This is great! Not 100% sure of this, but as Little Bear said, if one of you falls in water, and it's freezing, I think priority is getting a fire started immediately. Also, when charging your accessories, I thought there was like a tricky procedure of having a charging block and knowing how many watts you need to charge everything in a reasonable time frame. For instance, a 100-watt block with 4 outlets is good for charging, but will this charge each item at its fastest capability, etc. Maybe I'm wrong. Please comment below if anyone with knowledge of this and hiking AT knows and can offer them and me advice or tips😊 If I may ask, what would a Nero or Zero in the tent look like if it's a downpour? Will yous watch movies on your phones, maybe download some if you won't have service. I was thinking that when I get to hike, I might have like a lite stand in between mine and my friends' pads to hold a phone for the two of us to watch movies. Good luck! Hey Joey!! 👋🏼 😊 Yeah, we’ve spent the whole of the last 2 years trying and testing gear. It feels good to have what we need and like! When it’s your turn to do this, I encourage you to do several shake down hikes, too. Yeah, cold and wet can be very dangerous. We will do our best not to fall in the water, lol! You’re right, there are specific numbers to look out for when it comes to watts, etc for charging. I honestly can’t remember it all right now. I just took the recommendations of past hikers and it works out well. If it’s pouring rain for a Nero or zero, I think that’s exactly what it’ll look like. Watching movies on our phones and for me, editing videos for KZbin. It’s actually a tremendous amount of work and takes quite a bit of time.

@@wildflowersadventures As a Triple Crown Hiker l know the importance of weight. My base weight with a 45 liter pack is 9 lbs. Add 2 liters of water , food for 6 to 7 days and clothes, Pack Weights in about 21 to 22 lbs. I carry no luxury items.A good weight would be around 25 lbs. I think as you go along you will drop items that you really don't need . Mail stuff home or drop in a Hiker Box at Hostels. You will learn so much by just being on the trail each day. You and your daughter will do great, just hike your hike. Find your pace and stay at that pace. Don't adjust for people on the trail you will meet. We all hike at different paces. @wildflowersadventures
@wildflowersadventures 11 ай бұрын
Hey there! No, not at all. Being a woman and the things we have to deal with are not embarrassing or too personal. It’s a natural part of being a woman and I’m glad you asked. 💜 For me, I use tampons and panty liners. I know a lot of women use menstrual cups. I haven’t ever tried them. I don’t know why, but they just don’t seem convenient. Probably because I’ve never tried them, but I don’t know. I have one in my cabinet still in the box, lol! I also take wet wipes for that time of the month as well when I poo. They’re heavy, but worth it to me. Of course I pack all of that out. I take black dog poo bags to provide a bit of privacy when I throw it in my trash ziplock bag. Some women also choose to incorporate birth control in order to not have a period. That’s not the right choice for me, but some women enjoy it and it works for them.
