I realized that macOS support for Intel was nearing its end when I noticed the Calculator app on M(x) chips offers Scientific and Programmer modes, while the Intel version does not. This made it evident that new features are being developed exclusively for the M(x) chips, signaling Apple’s gradual discontinuation of support for Intel processors. Another clear example is Apple Intelligence. However, not all is lost for these older Mac computers. Many of them can still be repurposed by installing Linux, and there are now even versions of Linux available for the M(x) chips.

ps. the base M4 Mac mini at $499 student discount is a great deal. although I would always buy the $100 10 gig ethernet option to use the Mac mini as a file server with an attached NAS. draws only 8 to 10 watts.

I would hope the Mac pro 2019 to 2023 with 28 cores 56 threads Intel Xeon and two GPUs with 64GB and 1500 MB ram memory and 64 TB can? Or apple really screwed them😮

Since CoreML even on Apple Silicon will send some computations to the GPU and all on Intel Macs, there’s nothing really stopping Apple from having said features work. However there’s a few things: Binaries might only be in ARM64 and if it did work on Intel Macs, the sort of TFLOPs needed would be limited to the Mac Pro 2019 kitted with top end GPUs. My guess is these features are out of reach at the OS level.

Or more to the point in my opinion, do we really need Apple AI? Do millions of Apple and Microsoft users need to dump their current computers to fill the coffers of said corporations, choking the environment in the process? I love my Intel MacBooks and Intel iMac , but refuse to dump them just because of Tim Cook's bottom line. There are alternative solutions which work perfectly well on older Apple hardware. Knowledge is power and freedom from the walled gardens. Apologies for the rant. Everyone have a nice or evening. Peace.

If there's something that I wish someone would either port or spoof or anything, would be the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID support on iMacs. I bought it for my 2020 iMac 27" (which I was baffled that Apple stop making those because they serve their purpose if you get the VESA variant and have it as a secondary monitor/computer.) that is not technically obsolete yet they deliberately choose to disable Touch ID support, I was so disappointed because they low-key confuse you by listing that computer as "compatible" then to realize that the whole reason you upgraded is now ruined, only saved by the fact I have a M3 MBP which I'll eventually find a way to replace the iMac.

I did the Windows11 transition on my M3 MacBook Pro a year ago. Had to install the ARM version of Windows 11 under Parallels and then reinstall all my Windows apps. Win11 ARM runs Intel binary applications fine for the most part but they do get slowed down by the translation of Intel instructions to ARM instructions. Forget running Intel hardware drivers, they don’t work.

Do you have any idea why it doesn't work properly and makes the system slow down? The software version Sequoia 15.2 on the laptop doesn't exactly support a MacBook Pro 2016. I installed it on another laptop from 2015 and it works much better than the one from 2016. Both have 16 GB of RAM, but for nothing, the one from 2016 is a bit slow.

A transition could be an interesting subject. I don't know a lot about video editing or games but regarding the music, which is more my domain, well, I guess you will not have a lot of difficulties, all the major players in this domain are fully Mac compatible, either on the software or on the hardware. The opposite processus, transitioning from Mac to PC in a pro or semi-pro musical environment, could me more painful, or time consuming, in my opinion.

your back! sorry. peace. I have a M4 Pro 14 core CPU 20 Core GPU. 10 gig eathernet thunderbolt 5 512gb ssd 24 gb ram on order at Apple. ships jan 8th. $1600. I am ready to leave Intel behind. plenty of cool games are ARM only. I start college in jan. wanted something small and powerful. can also install the Mac mini in the glove box of my 2014 Prius with a portable 15 inch touch screen mounted in the car.
