Oscar should either get one or 2 more jobs if he wants to support his mother... it's not his wife responsibility to finance his mother. The reason he didn't tell her about his & his moms plans from the begining is because he knew NO woman with a grain of common sense, would agree to go along with that nonsense... even IF ivy had married him. she wouldn't of been trapped. As long as she had her own money she could've still gotten rid of oscar and his mother... oscar & his mom thought once married/marraige license signed & turned in... she'd be stuck and couldn't escape.. that's just nonsense.. the minute she finds out why oscar really married her, she leaves and file for divorce.... unless they were planning on holding her captive in the basement. All she would've needed to do was find a divorce attorney. She never wouldve been trapped even if they had gotten married.

My son is an only child. And yeah, a "mama's boy". He will fully admit to that. But he also just walked in and said "Like you would let me get away with doing that!" He's my baby and will always be my baby - but he's also his own person and I don't expect him to look after me when I'm older. (Though I'll probably always cut his grilled cheese into triangles...)

Public proposals are such emotional manipulation...and there's a huge difference between loving and respecting your mom and being some weird creepy mommy's boy- the added touch of them running off the ex and forcing her to get an abortion was nicely done- at some point you have to cut the apron strings!! Your kid being independent means that you've done a GOOD job!! Yes to your whole comment. He asked her to run to the court house to get married in front of friends so OP would feel obligated to do so. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to help a sick parent, when my father in law was diagnosed with cancer, my mother in law had already been diagnosed with dementia. My husband was going crazy stressing out about who would care for my mother in law while father in law was going through treatments, they lived 5 hours from us. When it first happened, they thought my father in law had a heart attack so my husband and I run up to their home. We were there for the discovery of the tumor, the testing and back for the start of the treatment plan. I told my husband his parents were going to have to move in with us, that why we could all chip in to help his dad get to treatment and someone would always be here with his mom. There was just no other way to do it and also give my husband peace of mind while it was all going on. There is a problem to manipulating women to be a piggy bank for your mother. Oscar and his mother really need to cut the strings because their relationship is crossing some weird lines. What they did to that other poor woman is just heartbreaking. I LOVE the best friend, OP should’ve heeded the warning of Oscar being “too perfect” and never married

How did Oscar think he could hide his former marriage from Ivy? Don't Americans have to declare their marital status to the registry office? And prove this with the corresponding documents? I know that, in my country, you have to present your birth certificate and, if applicable, your marriage certificate and death certificate of the former spouse or divorce certificate. The registry office then checks everything. Since any marriage will be reported to the registry office of the place of birth, a former marriage cannot be concealed.
