like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzbin.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

Hi, nice to see a video from an apartment instead of a huge house. My goal is also to implement everything in Homekit. At the moment all my lighting is also Philips Hue with one exception a Nano Leaf lightstrip in my bedroom (wanted to test Thread in combination with the HopePod mini). I also implemented Homebridge to support my Logitech Harmony so I can send out infrared to my tv and audio devices. Also worked brilliant with the battery powered candles I purchased in December. In my bedroom I also have a Zemismart curtain rail. Works flawless with Homebridge. One question. I see that you have separate temp sensors. Why don’t you use the temp sensors in the Philips Hue motion sensors to trigger events?
@GeorgeLangabeer3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that! Nice! Sounds like you’re working on a pretty cool setup. To answer your question, I have the Ecobee sensors because they work the best with my thermostat. With the large windows in here, I need all the help I can get to maintain the temp and the Ecobee Sensors help level out the climate control. Plus, I do use my Philips Hue sensors to also trigger events. So I use both.

Why didn't you go with the Nest Thermostat if you like Nest? I have all Nest in my house including their Thermostat but does the other offer something Nest doesn't? Also, what brands of Sonos do you have? Are they ran off of Wifi or just the Bluetooth version? I have a 2 story house and I'm wanting to put some inside and outside on every corner of the house. I don't want the Bluetooth version to disconnect from one another though.

As far as Nest goes…I’ve always been a big fan of The Nest Thermostat. I’ve owned every generation at one point or another. But I give the nod to the Ecobee because it’s more universal. I like how it works with HomeKit right out of the box (also works great with Google Home & Alexa). I’m also a big fan of their room sensors. Unlike Nest, the sensors take an average temperature of your entire house (or apartment) & that helps you save more money. The older Nest thermostat’s sensors don’t take the average, they only concentrate on one room at a time. Not to mention, the new “Google Nest” Thermostat doesn’t even work with the sensors. As far as Sonos goes…I have: The Arc, The Beam (Gen 2), The Sub (Gen 3), several Sonos Ones, The Symfonisk Lamps, The Sonos Move & The Sonos Roam. The Roam & The Move can both be Bluetooth speakers, but all of them are WiFi speakers. The reason Sonos is the best, is their connectivity from room to room. I have one in each room both in my apartment & at my office. I have zero issues with them connecting to each other through the Sonos App. They can however be a little temperamental using them as AirPlay 2 speakers (if you have a lot of them). But that’s not just Sonos. I have the same problem when I have 8 or more HomePod Minis playing at the same time. So that’s an Apple problem, not a Sonos problem. It does help to have a decent router and good internet speeds either way.

@SilverHammer Surveillance understanding it clearly now. I love the Google Hub Maxx but I hate Google got Nest because I like Nest, a lot. I like how you can have them on the Google Home app though. The new battery cam and doorbell, I hate how they're not able to be viewed a month out like the previous cameras. If I'm paying $12 a month, that should be a must. As far as the Thermostat, so I have a 2 story house and downstairs freezes in the winter. With the sensor, I could put one downstairs and until that temperature is reached, it will continue to run? Thanks for the info about the Sonos!
@GeorgeLangabeer3 жыл бұрын
With the thermostat, yes, as long as it’s a Nest Thermostat & not the new Google Nest thermostat (so confusing-I know-come on Google). The last generation “Nest Learning Thermostat” is compatible with the Nest Sensor. So if you put a sensor in your basement, it would base your temperature off that sensor instead of the thermostat location. You can also put those sensors on schedules. So you can base the temp on the thermostat for a set schedule & then the sensor for a set schedule. But again, those sensors do not work with the newest thermostat.

totally get that ! on my side i use 3 different assistant. i have many people asking me what's the point in 3 assistant. smart devices integration is a hit or miss. sometimes one device will work better with home kit vs Google or Alexa or vice versa

Why not just use the Google home app for your nest devices?

Because I’m an Apple guy and I want everything in one spot. Having them in HomeKit also allows me to use them with my other HomeKit automations.

Great setup!! How do you find using your Sonos home theatre is in an apartment? I live in a condo as well but am nervous of noise complaints using the Sonos arc and sub combination
@GeorgeLangabeer3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Luckily, our only neighbor that we share a wall with, owns the building. He’s never here because he has a second home somewhere else. Plus, I can see when he is here thanks to my video doorbell-lol. Since we’re on the top floor our floors have thick concrete. So we’re lucky. But if I lived in a typical apartment situation, I’d be very worried. Not so bad for music, but Atmos movies get LOUD! Lol
