8:49 Obviously "mom" has no clue about "cost of living" realities. Hiring a little full time housekeeper/maid would cost at least $20,000 per year. With a $250K gross income and assuming a nominal tax rate of 15% that's a net of around $212.5K and then state taxes, of any on top of that. Then another $20K for the maid and their net income is well under $200,000. Figure mortgage payments, insurance and taxes are at least $75k a year and that whole "hire a maid" thing looks less doable for them.

250k a year is a good paycheck, but a life of luxury for yourself, your wife and her parents. Not really. It’s about 21k a month, then you have to take away taxes, which I am guessing at that income is around 20-30%. So let’s say 25% you are left with about 15,6k. A good chunck, sure. But now you have to pay off a mortgage or rent, car payments, the maid they wanted, food, clothing. While it’s a very good paycheck, I wouldn’t think it was enough for the parents in law to drive expensive cars and never lift a finger again. If you have that salary it’s also really important to save some of it, because money can always go away in an instant and you need to have a plan b if that happens. So yeah, I expect this to not go as the mother here believes.
