Honestly, I would’ve just abandoned Hazel. Call me heartless, but she’s made it clear she isn’t worth others’ sympathy.

Why did the FIL think it was okay to cheat on his wife with his DIL? *smh* Reminds me of that one Law & Order: SVU episode where the dad did that with his daughter-in-law and unfortunately, the woman passed away (I think the baby might have died too, but I'm not sure at the moment). The son was furious at what his dad had done and the dad's wife was furious too.

I remember that episode, the father and son were the heads of a Christian university and they were all working hard to increase funding due to a massive balloon payment on a loan. The DIL and the father went on several trips related to raising funds and because the father seemed more masculine than the son, they had an affair. The son found out and snapped as the wife was ridiculing him and he wound up killing her. The mother knew about the affair and screamed and her husband in front of the detectives.

My son and I are SO much alike, whereas my daughter is exactly like her dad.

So, what I am getting out of the start of this is that the main character's mother abandoned her with a man that she said was toxic and abusive, and never once had anything to do with her daughter after she left the marriage? Yet, the main character allowed this woman back into her life? Yeah, that's a no for me. There's some things you can forgive your parents for, but outright abandonment is not one of them. Isabelle is horrible and thinks that she can return back into the good graces of her daughter by giving her money. This woman was not in her daughter's life. She's got no business calling her 'her precious daughter' when SHE ABANDONED HER. Isabelle left her daughter with an abuser. An abuser that then went and sought comfort with the bottle. Isabelle does not deserve a second chance. I don't give my bio father who abandoned me a second chance. He's not in my life whatsoever and I will never forgive him for what he did.

Alot of people make mistakes and wrong choices when they are young adults. They even make mistakes with their kids. But as they get older they reflect and learn from their past mistakes. The fact that the mom sincerely apologized and tried to make amends, and the daughter accepting the apology and having a good relationship again says alot about both of their characters. The MIL is the ungrateful and uncaring one. MIL is so selfish.

@@whiteowl4097 No, Isabelle is the uncaring one. She abandoned her daughter with an abuser and got to live her best life. The MIL is certainly the problem, but so is Isabelle. Abandoning your child with an abuser is not just a mistake and she didn't even care at all. However, I do have to say something about Hazel. The main character made the decision to have her mother re-enter her life. That was her decision. Hazel constantly bringing up something painful because she was trying to emotionally manipulate both the mother and the main character. That was completely malicious on Hazel's part even though she did have a valid point in regards to Isabelle.

Why’d you say Phil beat Jacob to DEATH if Jacob was told he’d recover?

I still bet that would still make Suzie pee herself after seeing Phil's rage like that

Jacob and Suzie’s karma: After Jacob recovered from his injuries, Phil pressed a lawsuit against his disgusting and traitorous “stepdad” and his cheating wife with charges of adultery and such. Needless to say, Phil promptly divorce Suzie and winning both the case and the alimony. Since Jacob left Suzie after his injuries were healed, she gave birth to her baby alone. Phil quickly got sole custody of the baby in the lawsuit case as well, after it was revealed that Jacob’s sole purpose of wanting a baby was to use it as a form of “revenge”, which even the judge was disgusted about. Suzie was only allowed supervised visitations to see her child, but was NEVER allowed to see the child alone. When word got out about what Suzie did against Phil, she was both humiliated and ostracized from her friend group, even being disowned by her parents and family for her disgusting actions against her husband. Last anybody heard of Suzie, she was working at three different part time jobs to send child support money to Phil and living in a one bedroom apartment, which had seen better days. Aside the child support, Suzie only had the money to spend on food and utilities. Of course, she had the unfortunate bad luck of being hired by the nursing staff at the very nursing home that Hazel was at, and being assigned to said woman she stole Jacob from. Isabelle got updates from her husband about what happened at the nursing home, how Hazel would SCREAM and ATTACK Suzie every time she was assigned to take care of the MIL. But Isabelle talked with Phil and they both agreed to cut Hazel out of their lives, not wanting to see or hear from the Momster in Law ever again.

I mean, Hazel does have a point when it comes to Isabelle. She abandoned her daughter with an abuser that was prone to violent outbursts when drinking and didn't seem to pay child support or nothing. Just up and abandoned her daughter. However, I feel that Hazel should stop bringing it up when it comes to her DIL and what she wants. If the main character wants to rebuild a relationship with her mother, then that's up to her, and Hazel needs to respect that no matter how she feels about Isabelle. However, I think that this constant bringing up her DIL's past was to also emotionally manipulate both Isabelle and her DIL. It's very malicious on Hazel's part to do this. Hazel is being so cruel in that hospital scene.

Hazel is disgusting for a mother-in-law, and that's why you should let some people suffer when they are down, as why not return the generosity without complaining, geeze...

Omg this is waaaayyyyy longer than it needed to be GET. TO. THE. POINT. Also there's really nothing 'happy' about this story. An abusive mother who suddenly comes back? A FIL having an affair with his DIL?! A toxic, selfish MIL, a weak willed mc? I can't like anyone in this
