So if anyone also doesn't have apple sauce, I just made this recipe and I cut another apple in big chunks and put it in a microwave with a bit of water and syrup for a few minutes and then smashed the soft apple chunks with a fork. And then used this as an apple sauce (it made a lot more than two tablespoons of course). I kept the skin because it was very soft, but if it is rough I think it would be better to peel it off

I just tried the recipe and it was amazing! The filling was delicious. I don' t have a microwave so I made the batter into small pancakes and it did the job. I really love your concept here especially the date sweetener. I think a lot of people are attracted to mug cakes because they provide almost instant gratification. On the other hand, more effort usually produces a superior result. I love to cook, so I am with you on the homemade apple pie filling. I steam my "mug" cakes anyway as I believe the extra time the ingredients spend together truly makes a better product. Bravo to you. All this leads to ideas of using other fruits as well.

@@capyboppy It's not the sat fat u have to worry about...it's the polyunsat's (PUFA). the Mufa's, like olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, and animal fat, including real butter is actually good for u. It's the sugar u have to watch out for. I made this mug cake with stevia. Added a nice pat of butter to the apples. Didn't even need the corn starch. Came out fabulous!
@capyboppy4 жыл бұрын
@@staceykersting705 sorry but you are incorrect. It is the polyunsaturated that are the “good fats”. Maybe you are mixing it up with trans fats which is the worst type of dietary fat. It is a byproduct of hydrogenation that is used to turn healthy oils into solids and to prevent them from becoming rancid. Trans fats have no known health benefits and that there is no safe level of consumption. Trans fats increases the amount of harmful LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream and reduces the amount of beneficial HDL cholesterol and also creates inflammation, which is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. I believe in America they have been banned although not so here in England. Polyunsaturated fats are essential for the body which cannot produce this type of fat itself. Building cell membranes and the covering of nerves is an example of how polyunsaturated fats work in the body. Coconut oil tends to come in the middle along with red meat; full fat normal cheese and full fat milk. It is oils such as olive oil that is beneficial. Sorry if I’ve rambled but nutrition and health is my thing and was included in some of my modules when studying with The Open University. I’m not mad on Stevia as it has a ‘funny’ taste. I use the original Xylitol from birch particularly as it has a protective effect on the teeth. Particularly important for me as I can’t produce enough saliva and tears 😢

I routinely make apple butter, which is just apples (and a bit of seasoning if you like), cooked down past applesauce to a deep brown, which is traditionally used as jam. But in addition, I use it on my yogurt, in place of applesauce in recipes, and now I’m going to try it in place of the filling in this recipe! Thank you 😄
