Not being loaded with money, Graphic Designer , I tend to wait awhile but today I just Upgraded to an M1 5th gen 12.9 1Tb iPad Pro from a 2018 2nd gen 10.9 iPad Pro .

If you want to run Stage Manager with external display support, you need an M1. So I disagree with the recommendation for an iPad Air 4. Two months ago, I got an iPad Air 5 to replace my wife’s failing 11” iPad Pro 2018 and got it on sale at Amazon for $100 off. That’s a heck of a deal and way better than getting an iPad Air 4 refurbished. I also got my son an iPad mini 6 for almost $100 off, too, so that was a good deal, too. Waiting for the right sale to get the latest is, in my opinion, better than getting last year’s stuff, especially when you get them new. Not everyone’s comfortable with buying refurbished, and that’s what you’d get buying Air 4’s or mini 5’s or Pro 2020 or earlier. You can get M1 2021 while they’re still in stock until they’re gone, but once they’re gone, you’ve basically got the choice of refurbished or new 2022’s. If you’re upgrading from the previous version, I say don’t upgrade, but if you don’t have one or have a failing old one, then wait for the right sale. It’ll come within a month or two.

The iPad line up has been in a bit of a limbo since they're ridiculously powerful yet still somewhat limited by iPadOS. Though they end up not needing to be replaced often and if you skipped a generation or two it's worth the upgrade.

I hear that some people are upset that the iPad Pro’s didn’t get that new folio but if you want a folio case for your iPad Pro, I would recommend the Logitech combo touch keyboard folio. It’s pretty much the same thing as Apples folio but better since it’s also a case that protects the outer edges of your iPad Pro. I think it’s a little cheaper in price too.

The differences between the air 5 and the iPad 10 are exactly the more important, better display, better processor and probably more ram. Bluetooth 5 works still well and for the price on Amazon the air 5 is really good.

I I’ve been really happy with my fourth GEN iPad Air. I mainly just use it for media consumption and viewing text documents so it’s really more than enough for my needs. I do like that the OS runs very snappy with little lag though.

I disagree. A 15” Macbook Air makes a lot of sense to me. Some people want the bigger screen but not the power. A 12” Pro does not make sense though. I could see a 12” Macbook filling in for $1099 under the Air. I don’t think that line up is that confusing. The ipad line up is just a mess to me.

@@Michael-ur5qb Yeah I agree with the 12" not making any sense unless it were to replace the 13" so it goes 12", 14" 16" but even then, that would still be odd. I am really hoping for a 15" MBA too. Having that bigger screen and lighter weight would be fantastic and the base SoC chips are already pretty powerful.

A lot of people don’t realize it but that first gen Apple Pencil adaptor comes in the box. Everyone complained for years about how awkward it was to charge the pencil. Just look closer in the box and the adaptor is there.

From my point of view, i would first consider the potential use for the device. Its possible that for the 90% of users the iPad 9 (even the old 8) is more than enough, price/performance is still a good option and will still be for a casual use (media consumption, note taking, casual drawing, casual gaming) outlasting any Android or Windows tablet in support and performance (my old iPad 6 with A10 and 2gb ram is miles more fluid than my Huawei Matepad T10s with a Kirin 710 and 2gb ram). If you want a bit more power , you can check a refurbished Air 4th gen (identical hardware vs iPad 10 but with less issues) which will be a similar price, or, if you want a smaller form factor, the Mini 6 (slightly more powerful). Then, for the 10% of users that might need more power or want a more intense use of the iPad (video editing, more professional drawing, laptop replacement in an emergency), i would pick the Air 5 as the most ballanced option. The M1 and 8gb ram can guarantee this tablet lasting for a really long time, more than iPad 9 (A13, 3gb ram), iPad 10 (A14, 4gb ram), Mini 6 (A15, 4gb ram) or the Air 4 (A14, 4gb ram) and can still be found with the old pricing. Its also compatible with Pencil 2, some Pro accessories, has access to the full iPadOS experience (Stage Manager included) and might receive any future Pro features too. The difference with the iPad Pro is not really that important (M2 vs M1 is a small upgrade, 120hz might not be an issue for most...) considering the increased price, specially in Europe.

Not really gave me much reason to buy an ipad before the next gen is announced. I am looking at upgrading my 2020 iPad Pro to a 12.9” Pro model as I use the ipad a ton. I also use it alongside my 2020 M1 MacBook Pro as a second monitor while away from home and some times while at home. Also use it to watch movies, youtube, etc. Hell I’m using my iPad Pro right now typing this. I believe my most used device is the ipad so can iPadOS 17 make the current ipad pro much better or wait until the next release? I’ve been thinking and debating for months and I can’t make the decision. Except I have come close the last week. Storage is also important. I think 1TB is mandatory since I have used just over 500GB.

That new iPad 10 is the most blue balls I ever had for a tech update. Was waiting for it to get a redesign but that exclusive keyboard and apple pencil 1 basically threw me off. Worse is that it's meant to be an entry-level iPad with low costs in general but for that price tag and functionality, I'd rather go for the mini 6 or air 4.

I had an iPad 6th gen. The screen felt hollow when tapping on it and the speakers where weak. I gave it away and got a Samsung tablet with 4 speakers, It is slower, but it sounds and feels much better. Im happy with my Mini 5.

I use the “old” iPad pro 12.9 from 2020 (A12Z).. With stage manager, this is the best mobile device i have ever owned. Screen’s awesome. Performance in 2022 is.. okay for work amd watching media. The apple pencil really helps productivity. And ipados 16 tops everything off with stage manager which really helps with multi tasking. I dont really use it for multi display anyway, i still think a proper pc is better for that. But the iPad is clearly becoming a literal “middle supporting device” between a phone and a laptop.

As an owner of the iPad 9, I'd recommend either this iPad. Or the 2020 11 and 12.9 in iPad Pros. While the 2018 and 2020 variants are identical, I think the 2020 models might be a little more worthwhile to buy, since the 6 GB of RAM might get more software updates. Or lastly, the iPad Air 4, since the iPad 10 is similar in specific areas. And for anyone that's looking at the iPad Mini: I won't be surprised if Apple refreshes it next year.

All I really use my iPad for is watching KZbin and surfing net and the occasional video editing for my own small KZbin channel. Also for that editing I just use iMovie. The iPad Mini still chilling as possibly one of the best values in the lineup. Fully laminated and good display, Apple Pencil 2 support, good cameras and a flash, the best performing A15 Bionic, all in a very portable and tablet friendly form. Still love mine.

what's with all the slander for the iPad Air 5? i think it's decently-priced considering that it has the M1 chip, but I guess for the average user the iPad Air 4 still makes a lot of sense just in my own use case, being a creative and most of my work being digital, having the M1 chip over the A14 is a huge difference for me, not just in very heavy workloads like photo editing and video editing, but also in the long run, with the M1 having more graphics performance and that it will probably last an extra two or three years compared to the iPad Air 4, because the M1 has been the biggest leap in performance I've seen so far ever since the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus

If you’re someone who doesn’t need the power for editing or work, the Air 5 isn’t much of an upgrade over the Air 4. However, I still went with the Air 5 because the iPad 10 was such a disappointment to me when it came out. I’m thinking of upgrading to the (supposedly) M3 iPad that’s rumored to come out this year, as I am someone who does a lot of editing and file transfers on my iPad

But when I learned I could get the 2021 pro for only $50 more, I had to return the air. If your sure you want the air then get it but I wanted a 12.9 pro model for a couple bucks more.

Apple has basically already had the exact same case on their website for a while for the iPad Air and Pro. It’s called the Logitech combo touch keyboard case and it’s literally the exact same but offers much better protection for the iPads.

I think Ipad air 5th gen is actually the best choice, beacuse you don't need the power of pro for editing, renderig. I mean it is good, but the price diff is better for buying accesories. The air 5th have support of 2. gen pen and It will have more usage with future updatesm, that will slow the bionic versions.

Considering the extrem price increase in europe where the old ipad 9th. gen could be bought for 360 euros and the new starts at 579 euros it really isn’t a replacement. Instead it feels like they threw out their budget friendly version to try to sell you a worse ipad air 4 for the same price as the original.

The biggest difference between the iPad Air and the iPad 10th gen is that the iPad Air has the M1 chip, and as such, will be getting stage manager when iPadOS16 comes out later this month. The newest iPad, in theory, won’t be supporting this feature, so I would get the Air if I was looking into buying an iPad now. That, and the support for Apple Pencil.

I was honestly surprised when he said the Air 5 wasn't a good buy. Stage Manager is one thing, Apple overall favoring M-series chips these days is another, then there is the performance longevity, higher battery quality vs. the Amazon Renewal Air 4... I'm not saying everyone should get the Air 5, but to dismiss it in such a manner is just ridiculous. That being said I think the iPad Pro 11" - M1 was and still is the best bang for your buck, if you are lucky enough to find the base model.

@@UJB123 The prices are weird rn. The 10 needed to be a replacement for the 9, for now it just adds to the confusion. Why wouldn't one pay marginally more for a better screen & a much better processor is beyond me. The new ipad 10 should've had the A15 or M1 to justify it's price increase. There's 3 ipads, the air, the mini and the new 10th gen, with 3 different processors the M1, A15 & A14, and all in the 450-550$ range... it's absurd.

Sadly I went with the m2 iPad Pro 12” only because I bought it in installments through AT&T and the m1 was only $2 less per month. If I was outright paying full price I would definitely get renewed M1. Been waiting for 4 months for this update,upgrading from a 7th gen entry iPad

@@Andre55923 I would recommend the M2 unless the M1 was significantly lower with Verizon in price. In my case it was only $2 cheaper per month so I went with the M2. I get horrible reception at work and with the changes in the antenna I constantly lose internet connection. Doubt it’ll happen with the M1. Hope that helps

I have the iPad mini 6 and I honestly think it’s the only one worth buying. For the price of the iPad Pro and magic keyboard, you can just get a MacBook instead. Which would allow you to do more tasks anyway

100% agree. I went from a iPad Air to a Mini and I thought I was going to miss the bigger screen. But the Mini ended up being my favorite iPad ever. It is just way more comfortable to hold and stuff like watching videos and browsing the web is just better than on my phone.

ipad air 5 is actually a great buy, especially for artists or student artists that need more ram and storage but don't want to splurge on the ipad pro. It really just depends on what you are using your ipad for. I have an ipad pro 12.9 in 2018 generation and the ipad air 5. The air 5 is a bang for your buck, especially if you can make the 64gb work for you.

I need some help here so i can get a refurbished iPad Air 4 for $350 and an Apple Pencil 2 for like $90 should I go that route instead of a Apple Pencil 1 and the new iPad 10 only reason I’d get the iPad 10 is because I’d be getting it brand new instead of refurbished so I think it’s last longer
