I have a funny story about apples snails floating 😁 my mom had some that would clam on the bubbler and collect the bubbles in their shells, close up real quick, float up to the top, open and let the bubbles out, float down, and then do it all over again 😂 Snails have personalities. This just proves it.

Hi there, I am a VERY late subscriber but you had a ton of info in there and I was happy to hear it. I was told that my baby golden mystery snail was exactly that, a mystery snail. However, mine is as large as yours...Maybe not to 6 inches but definitely 3 inches and she has some greenish in her gold shell that i don't see on the pure yellow ones. She has the black spots you mentioned as well. I just have one in a 5 Gallon freshwater tank. I only have her and she's 9 months old and I stress over her every day because my 1st betta fish died after 3 months and the snail ate him. So I was upset but then I learned that they only do this when the fish has expired. Not alive. So that made me feel so much better. My snail has outgrown all the housing like the coconut shell cave. None of the door heights are high enough and she's so attached to that thing. I went online and really it's slim pickings. Anyway thanks a lot for telling me about the wafers. If my girl ( i think she's a girl based on another really good snail video i saw, is indeed an apple snail...wow..i hope she's okay and not starving. I've done cucumbers, spinach, apple pieces, carrots which she didn't like. I use betta food pellets and have other little brine shrimps etc. I fuss over her too much because my dog died at age 16 last summer and i was dreading it..Then the very next day i got a brand new betta fish and i was really ready...It died 3.5 months later so yeah now i am counting all the days and months i still have Goldie. Most ppl say only a year...Wish i could upload a photo to show you her size.

I have done none of that stuff except change the water will purified water every month. I've never had a thermometer, I've never fed them veggies or pellets, or anything. There is even an opening at the top of my tank. They survive off of the extra fish food and waste, and they seem really happy and healthy.

My snails don't care much for cucumbers or spinach, but they love carrots & broccoli. Yeah I had no idea my snail was a female till almost a month later when I caught her just hanging out of her shell at the bottom of the tank just being her silly self. Then 4 months after I bought her she laid 4 small fully fertile egg clutches. They all hatched 7 days. I tried moving the larger clutch to an incubator to save some as I saw my betta eating the fresh hatchlings. However as soon as I took them off then tank they all hatched. About 150 of them & 4 months later they are all still alive but different sizes even though I have had to split them between 8 tanks ranging in size from 2.5-10 gallons. Then 1 month after the first batch she laid 2 more clutches. This time my daughter helped me dispose them before development so I wouldn't be further over run. Then about 1 month ago another batch hatched mostly from 1 clutch, a few from a second clutch, & the 3red clutch were all duds. I decided to leave them hoping the betta would eat some here & there, which he hasn't. So I now have another 80-100 baby snails in a 5 gallon tank. Looking to give them away at this point. The mother snail is nearly 2 inches & 1 yr old with no signs of aging.

I keep mine in a filtered 3.5 gallon with fake plants and a betta fish. He seems pretty good. He eats the stuff on the ground of the tank, and celery and stuff. Pretty easy to care for and fun to watch them crawl around on your tank decorations. 10/10 would recommend buying one.

I pull my clutches and incubate them in a float container with a damp paper towel. I poked holes in the lid so it has air flow, I pop the lid for a half to a hour daily. Mine hatch out in 8-10 days. Went I see the first couple have eaten their way out I help the rest of them out and I very carefully and gently rub the clutch in their keeper and they fall out. I leave the egg casing for them to eat as that is what they will have for their first meal which is almost like a new born getting breast milk first thing. I only hatch out one clutch at a time.

Got my guy in the mail today to help my betta tank out with white string algae due to too much sunlight exposure in the tank. He is blue! He is doing great so far and I’ve put a piece of cuttlebone in the tank, now just to wait for it to sink lol. I had done so much research before getting one but I somehow had no idea about their siphon! It FREAKED me out at first until I googled it lol! My first thought was “ew its boy trying to mate” and then “ew what if it’s a parasitic worm?!” Lol! Now I know it’s to use as a snorkel to get air from the surface since they actually have lungs unlike other aquarium snails! My guy was moving in his shipping bag and started moving around immediately upon being put into aquarium. I’m so fascinated by this weird new little creature! I ALWAYS wanted one as a kid but was never allowed to get one because my dad thought all snails were hermaphroditic and his tanks would be infested! Now that I’m 22, I did my research and got a sole blue snail for $12 total shipping and all! I haven’t been able to find a video this in-depth and so this is a very educational video!

Hi, my son just got 2 apple snails, and 1 has decided to float. It appears to get so much air in it that it can't completely go back into its shell while floating. When we submerge it and rotate it upside down, quite a few bubbles come out, and it sinks ... only to start climbing up to the top of the tank again to float. Ideas?

Hi Steff, I have an Gold Mystery Snail, and it eats very hardy whatever drops in my tank which is anything from Shrimp Wafers, to flakes. I also include Algae Wafers and so far he's dined on them without any problems that I can see. The reason I mention this is because I was looking at the ingredients of the Algae Wafers to see if maybe any calcium was included (for their shells) and noticed that one of the last ingredients is copper sulfate. Is this risky? My snail has already eaten through quite a few of them already. Beautiful fingernails and hands btw. =-)
@steffj
@steffj 9 жыл бұрын
Stratosfear12569 hi :) and to answer your question, yes, copper is toxic to them (and all invertebrates) but the amount of it per wafer is almost nothing, so not enough to harm your snail! so dont worry about it. If you see your snail acting funny after a wafer, then stop feeding them but very unlikely. And thanks on noticing my fingernails and hands lol

nenaj1I have 3 yellow ones. They are huge. I also have one grey mystery snail that I've had for a few months. Their shells are very hard and in great condition. I use caribsea Bimini live reef sand. It has calcium and pieces of corals and shells. It also keeps the pH level high naturally. Calcium supply won't be enough. They need the hard water/high pH as well. Since using this sand, their shells are not brittle and thin anymore. I bought the sand and put it into the tank. Do not rinse the sand!!!!! For 2 days I kept changing the water to get rid of the cloudiness. 2nd day I put them in and all was well. But my grey one kept sliming. So I kept him in another tank for an extra day and did more water changes. Next day I put him in and he was all well! I also have two large pieces of dead coral from south beach, Miami. I use reptocal calcium powder twice a week. I put two tea spoons in and it sinks. They love it. If you have snails with bad shells get the life reef sand. I had found this info on a site. It works great!

So my question is will he/she be okay in a fish bowl until then? I made a mesh top so he can't leave, I check my water often, give wafers, veggies, and the diy calcium powder. I love him and plan on getting more once I have a bigger tank. I have 5 bettas. And plan on getting some goldfish for the new tank. :) love your videos

I have carps and sucker fish in my pond alongside with apple snail. Recently few of the snails had laid eggs. Just wanted to know whether the above mentioned fish species are/not a threat for the young ones when then hatch. Or do i have to grow them separately until they reach a particular size.

Awesome video! I've had my Albino Mystery/Apple snail lay a ton of egg clutches (if it has been the same snail, she has laid 9-10 clutches in the past couple months) but none have been successful. The first few I let be where they were laid, but the others I have been trying to incubate. I am starting to wonder if she is just laying a ton of infertile eggs?

Hello Steff! I have snails I found at a pond, and they are black. I'm not really sure what kind they are, but all the snails at the pond were black. I only took a few like maybe 7 of them. My tank is 10 gallon. I put some lettuce and pebbles and a heating pad there for them. Do you think they are Apple snails? Thanks, bye

My snails favorite diet is shrimp pellets. The kinds that break apart fast. They eat normal fish flakes and algae tablets too but they sprint across the tank for shrimp pellets whereas for algae tablets they kind of find it and then eat it. They dont go out of their way to get it immediately Also if my snails reproduce their babys that dont survive get fed to my pea puffers or loaches

I'm a beginner at taking care of snails and I just got an apple snail a few days ago and I'm just wondering about their behaviour. I set it up in a smaller container with a mix of spring water, conditioned tap water and water from the tank setup I've had running for a few days now and the snail just floats around all day, never moving. Yesterday its lid came open and didn't close for hours, so I thought it was dead, but it had no scent to it. Today it was time to move it to the main aqaurium since it had been in its small container for a couple days already. I moved it anyway, just in case it was still alive, and sure enough, its antennae poked out for a few seconds and its lid closed. Is it dying and can they be shocked to death by changes in conditions? It would've been moving about a lot in the last few days going from the pet shop to its small container, then the main aquarium. I'm really worried because I want to take care of it as well as I can and I'm scared that my actions taken to care for it might have killed it instead.

HI I'm not really new to the aquarium world but i am trying to take my snail care game to another level. I have a 25gal aquarium with two goldfish, a giant danio, a loach, and two snails, Gold Inca (gold "mystery") and a blue moon snail (which is a bluey color with orange spots) :) The snails are pretty big and very active, but I've never seen either of them lay eggs or try to mate. Does that mean they're both males? Also, someone told me a few years back that the snails have to change their shells as they grow. Is that true?

well I didn't buy any snails, just java moss. there was one black snail. I thought I sucked in the gravel vac and down the sink. now there's 5. they are hardy what ever kind they are. I have skipped water change then did a big water change. I have only put enough food for my frog. I guess I'll keep them. just wish I knew what king they are. they have a black round she'll on them.

Hey I have a quick question, my apple snail looks like one of his antennas are shorter than the other, do you know the usual causes for it? I have a small fish, however he seems pretty chill and i dont think he nips at the snail.

My snail seems to be really energy deprived and doesn’t come out unless it’s night time should I be worried? Especially when he used to be so fast. I can’t tell if he’s shrunk or not but he seems to be smaller than he was. And what’s the healing time on a crack or chip because his crack hasn’t been healing it looks like when I’ve had him for a month now.
