You gave apple a big point here for screen mirroring, while missing the fact that android TV can do the same and more. Cast your screen is built in nexus phone, and all other androids can use Chromecast app to directly connect and mirror phone or tablet screen to the shield, nexus player, Chromecast etc. Same as airplay. In adition it can cast the compatible app directly from the Web, phone being only a remote and discovery device (you mentioned that one). Maybe you didn't know? Now you do.

Great review! I'm not even what you'd consider a "gamer", but I'd choose the Shield over Apple TV 2015, though I'd probably buy both. Especially after you mentioned the lack of web search functionality (come on, Apple!). The Shield would be my recommended buy to family & friends.

I really appreciate your review. We decided on purchasing the Nvidia Shield and said no to (Apple TV, Roku 4, and Amazon TV). A small thing to note its possible to adjust the brightness of the green light and even turn it off. I have to say I don't appreciate a glowing flying spaceship in my living room :) Additionally the Shield supports local video files, Kodi, and Plex which opens up another world of options.

I would have to test both of the devices to see how the UI feels like in the long run. Android Apps can be a pain in the ass and at the end all I do is watch videos on YT and stream shows (in 1080p) on other platforms. Would you mind doing a Video about how the actual apps look and feel like? (KZbin, Netflix, Hulu, etc.)

I am extremely happy with my NVidia Shield TV. I have bought just about every device and this category. It is far superior than any other device I have seen. The graphics are stunning. It never stutters. Gaming is amazing. I can even stream game titles from my PC(recommend very high end NVidia graphics card). I will probably buy a couple more for my other TV's.

Nice work on the comparision and awesome informative vids you post. Quick question, the SONOS app doesn't support youtube or netflix, so how do you get the sound to go to all your speakers? And if you use AIRPLAY, is there a delay on the sound and video. I know the sound bar has no problem since its connected to the TV directly

Depends on your source. If I'm watching Netflix or KZbin on my tv, I can use the speakers np. The soundbar and the other speakers are in sync so no issues getting them to play all together.

When people say "there's no 4K content, so no need for 4K!" That was true a year or 2 ago, but don't kid yourselves, 4K is starting to hit the mainstream and all the online streaming providers (Netflix, KZbin, Amazon, etc) are getting on board. 4K content is easily accessible nowadays, and since I personally have a gaming PC, Nvidia Shield is perfect for my living room. Bedroom? PLOTTWIST I have the new Apple TV.

Any reason you didn't include the new Fire 4K TV model, it has a gamepad (cheaper if you buy the Fire TV and then purchase the Gamepad separately). Would be nice to see a comparison of each GPU's being used and which one can do more textures, etc..

I don't think you mentioned that the Apple TV does not have HDMI 2.0 which is pretty weak considering most newer TV's are using the HDMI 2.0 format and it doesn't do 4K either.

I like the vid, man! Subbed! However, not as if it really matters as the Shield TV WHOMPS the Apple TV regardless, but you completely didn't mention one HUUUUGE selling point for the Shield TV! GameStream! It's AMAZING! I have a whole series of videos on GameStream if you'd like to check them out. This is, without a doubt one of the standout features of the Shield TV as, not only does it work very well, it's a feature that no other set-top box can touch.

I just ordered a nvidia shield tv last friday, i got the 16gb because a have a 128gb microsd card and $300 just to much for the 500gb version. I really got the unit for 4k youtube, my vizio is 4k but it only does KZbin at 1080p. And the shield is the only set top box that does 4k 60hz, roku 4 and amazon tv only play videos at 4k 30 fps. And I wanted something that was strong enough for emulators, nothing newer than ps1 or maybe dreamcast. If someone wanted to get a set top box only for movies and tv shows roku 4 is the way to go, i just wanted something powerful i could tinker with.

Apple should add a HDMI input for ATV and put regular cable in an "app" just like the original iPhone did with the regular phone. Allow PiP and all the good stuff from this. And add a TV power button to the remote.

U got this all wrong. Apple TV usb c port isn't just for service, u can connect it to your Mac for recording. As for accessories there are gaming remotes and u can listen privately wirelessly....
