At $1000 what the iPhone is able to do now makes it relatively the same value as that first iphone at half the price. a glasses verison of the AVP could cost less than 3k in the future but have 10k worth of capability.

@En1gmatic18 ай бұрын
As awesome as this is, a few youtubers who have been using this for a few days now have pointed out exactly what I was worried about. And it's the same fundamental issue all VR headsets have, and it's that phase where after it's "NEW" and "EXCITING" and "COOL", it eventually just becomes a hassle and you get to a point where you ask yourself: "Do i really care to get up, get it, put it on, and have it on my face?" It sounds like not that much, but when smartphones are already with us 100% of the time and we're already seated in front of our TVs, That seemingly effortless ritual getting into a headset actually is more daunting and just not worth the effor after the wow factor wears off. ...sounds like retention is still going to be a big barrier even with more normalized apps which is still more inviting that standing/ active gaming (Quest 3). I dont see these as quite the next step as they dont quite have the passive addiction form factor our phones and TVs have. I'm willing to bet that over half the purchasers of the AVP are going to nne asked about the headset a year from now, and say: " Oh...yea i haven't used that thing in months..."

@zorgon410 same here. I'm an enthusiast for stand-alone to the max! Use both my Quest Pro and 3 daily since 2019 introduced me to Quest 1. but I'm being realistic from observation of social norms and questioning my friends around me who aren't as into VR and not quite sold on wearing these things seriously on their own. We're a rare breed. There's probably less than 1% if us vs. The general public, fully bought in, and enthusiastic about wearing these things for personal entertaimment and day-to-day. It's still too novel a concept to your average joe. They'll try it bc "it's neat" but headsets have too much of a goofy looking stigma that alot of working class adults would feel even silly to do it alone. The smartphone never had that barrier to gain mass adoption. The iphone was a seamless integration to your day to day and added benefits never afforded before. (The whole internet in your pocket..EVERYWHERE!) "But look how normalized airpods have bc after their initial reception of looking goofy"...again outside of that? They cut the cord, and are all benefit. ..VR is just cool and New, but all things just "cool and new" generally fall to becoming just a temporary trend, if VR can even get there. Again it doesnt add anything of real value to your day to day that your phone and or tablets cant alread do. It's just a fancier way to do it

I think the screen being so good will help with that "hassle" a lot. This thing can do things better than your phone and your TV, beyond VR gaming. That will unlock VR films, VR social media, VR family movies, ...other .. things... people want.. haha.. It is a huge missing puzzle piece right now. When that catches up, people will FOR SURE put on the headsets to experience it.

As impressive as it is, I still have to ask myself whether this is worth almost 7 times the price of a Quest 3. I think it is not, especially because the Quest can be used on every (capeable) PC wirelessly, making it very versatile, more than a device that's tied to the Apple ecosystem. Sure, the Vision Pro is meant for productivity and work in the first place but I guess most people will buy it for entertainment purposes only. If the tech advances further and the prices comes down to consumer levels, this can be the breakthrough in VR/MR that we thought would happen decades ago with the first VR devices that came to market.

Stereographic pictures and video capture as well as screen capture will be valuable and specific to Vision Pro value added over 2D pictures and videos taken by regular cameras. And with a VR headset, a person can view stereographic content stereographically. This will then allow the creation of more stereographic videos(BTW, stereographic videos already exist on KZbin. and you should be able to view them with Vision pro. You can view them in a browser on Quest 2 and 3) .. and stereographic pictures for Instagram, etc. And we may start seeing webpages that are designed to be viewed and interacted with stereographically

@@dimes305 I mean, the cost includes the battery, it's just worn off the head to reduce weight. Personally I like it because it opens up a lot of possibilities... you can own multiple batteries to avoid having to charge mid flight, for example. You can also easily buy a new battery in a several years when the battery stops holding a charge well. Obviously that comes at the cost of a wire, but the wire is still connected to your body, so you aren't tethered to the wall or any substantial device. I see more positives than negatives, and imagine as headsets get lighter and lighter, this will be the best option for some time, as it allows you to pack way more power into the headset. FWIW - I really was hoping you'd touch on the quality of the passthrough compared to Quest3, which I find to be practically unusable for any period of time. Also, at the very end, you show a few 3D elements like a CAD review of a jet engine, which is the sort of thing "pros" would really want to know more about. Otherwise - thx for the great review!

the annoying thing about this for ppl like me who wears glasses, is having to Get a prescription . I guess not so different than getting a glasses, but just additional step and extra cost.

You know who can't use the Apple Vision Pro? Scotty Kilmer. The unit would explode into a flaming ball of fire.

Wait, the most curious thing to me is EyeSight (is it what it's called?) tbh... that's because I thought EyeSight was just showing their eyes on the outside screen but actually it does have the depth...? how does it even work! It seems like it just recognizes the face of the person in front of you and then adjusts the graphics of your eyes to make it look like it's your actual eyes (giving the depth) looking through the headset but it's not??

From my understanding, Eyesight is driven by the outside display and cameras. So, the cameras are aware of people looking from different angles and directions (which is important for perspective). With that, it uses the avatar to represent your eyes on the front screen. The screen itself is a very special screen, called a curved lenticular OLED display. The curved bit just means it’s curved. OLED is a display tech that allows for perfect blacks and is the same (basic principle) as the micro OLED panels inside the unit. A lenticular display is one that can…control how light from the display travels, specifically the direction. This is the kind of technology that the Nintendo 3DS used for glasses free 3D. It was a bit janky because you had to perfectly align your face with the device, but the New Nintendo 3DS largely fixed that by adding cameras that could track your face in a cone area and adjust the behavior of the display, which made the 3D effect more consistent and reliable. It’s worth noting that this 3D effect, in my experience, largely felt like looking into the screen, like it had depth passed its surface, more than a movie theater “jumping out in front of you” kind of thing. As for 3D, clearly the tech is there, though I’d not heard much of that, more that it could show multiple people different perspectives of your face based on their orientation relative to you. Regardless, the tech is really cool.

I would like to know that too. I think what you are asking is... do the eyes and faces you see on the outside look stereographic or do they look like a flat screen? From what I could tell from various sources it could be either way. And Apple has been keeping that detail kind of vague. But we will know more on Feb 2nt when the general public starts having the chance to demo use them

Omg is it not just a display but special display something similar to what 3DS has!? I need to check that out in person sooner!! I think even putting a oled screen on the outside is already crazy idea but they have done something more!? It’s crazy how much Apple put the effort to keep the connection with the people outside of the headset 👀

@@Kuni02120 It is very cool, but unfortunately it seems like it isn't bright enough. Hopefully that's fixable in a firmware update.

Now I wanna see durability test . I used to have quest 2 and quest 3 now even index and if I bashed my head against wall or even table nothing never broke . Plate on front is made from glass . Really wanna see how durable this headset is if your sibling or wife manage to drop it on the floor … anything else is just iPhone vr strapped to your face
