**CORRECTION** We now know the Mac Virtual Display feature works with Macs running Mac OS Sonoma as well as Intel machines. So that can be a Mac Studio or Mac mini or MacBook and MacBook Pro. I was told differently before and information changes during a release, so I just wanted to make that clear. Some of you have taken it VERY personally. Just relax. These things happen. BTW, I'm got the Zeiss prescription inserts and, because it rained here a couple of hours ago, the inserts kept fogging up, fowling my eye tracking setup and forcing me to repeat the exercise repeatedly until I carefully dried my face, allowed the fog on the inserts to dissipate, and tried again. I've noticed that eye tracking setups performed without fogging gives me a faster and more accurate button selection after the setup is complete.

The User Interface is brilliant! Look at how whenever a new window pops up in the forefront, it pushes the rest of the content back, instead of pushing the new window forward. This is done this way to always keep your attention at the same depth. Because otherwise your eyes would get tired of constantly adjusting depth. You can see A TON of work went into designing this thing.

One of the coolest things which isn't mentioned in any of the reviews I've watched, but which is visible in the screen recording, is how it blurs the things that you aren't directly looking at to save processing power. And the fact that no one is mentioning it is an amazing thing, because it means that it works really well.

It's foveating rendering, which is not a new technology nor new to VR headsets. It needs it because the M2 isn't powerful enough to multitask at 8k 90fps whilst rendering a full 8k image. Hence why it chugs when screen recording the full image. People aren't mentioning it because everyone is focusing on what this head set does that other headsets can't do, and what you will actually use the headset for. No one has answers to either.

Interesting walkthrough. one question: why does the text of the UI sometimes gets really blurry? Does that only show up in the video recording or this blurriness happens in your actual view in the goggle too?

it could be optimisation maybe it only renders at full resolution wherever you are focusing. Our human eyes field of focus is actually quite small, for example you can probably only see two words crisply reading this comment. so why render the rest at full resolution and save power because we are viewing his recording, we can focus on a different part of the screen than what he is focusing on and see the blur but im guessing if you use it you won't notice that the things around you are rendering using a more efficient method

It ONLY connects to MacBook and MacBook Pros with Apple Silicon. It does not currently connect to Macs. I'm working a Follow-Up to the EPIC Review that answers a lot details in a couple of days

That is going to piss off a lot of people. What’s even worse is Apple did not disclose the requirements prior to release. I contacted Apple support days ago for clarification around this and even they didn’t know. This is a potential dealbreaker for many including myself who has one ordered - and an awful move for Apple with a product at this price point.

This is all super exciting. Too bad I don't have $4k lying around. I am not a developer and only earn average, but I definitely save for the upcoming "budget" version. Just for media consumption this is amazing. Remains to be seen if one can actually work with this, but I'd love to travel to Hawaii, Mt. Everest or the Titanic... Every day somewhere else for 30 minutes after work.

Can someone explain why the image goes blurry all the time, for a brief instant? I don't think this is a KZbin compression artifact as I have seen the same happen in other Vision Pro video captures. It looks like the Vision Pro OS is doing the blur on purpose, but why? And when?

It's called foceated rendering. Your eyes do the same thing and only focus what you're looking at. This also allows headsets to not use all the processing powering rendering everything crystal clear, but it all looks crystal clear to you.

@@briantong Thank you for your answer, but I don't think it's what going on here. It turns out that making parts of the display blurry does not save any processing power. It actually requires MORE power, because making an image blurry requires applying a convolution matrix over the image. It's even worse in this case, because you are not applying this matrix uniformly (the matrix varies depending on where the user is looking at). Sure, GPUs make this easy, but it's still more work done somewhere, so more energy is consumed, and the Vision Pro already has a short battery life. Also, because our vision already does that, it's kind of pointless. Your iPad does not do that, and you are not noticing any problem, right? And finally, our peripheral vision is actually able to detect very sharp details: we can "sense" small insects and snakes there even if they are not moving, so it's not really about blurriness. So there must be another, deeper explanation. Maybe it helps with motion sickness because it hides a little bit of the discrepancy between the visual information and other senses? But there is definitely something interesting going on here, and if it's about motion sickness I'm not surprised Apple would try to conceal this with marketing speak about speeding up computations (which is not the case) and foveated rendering (which is probably pointless or else we couldn't even enjoy the big screen in a movie theater). I'm not saying it's the reason, it's just an hypothesis, but I don't buy the official answer at this point.
