@@nnnnnn3647 thats not true. The actual dimensions of the case have changed over the years. The height has gone from 38mm to 40 to 41. And now 45 presumably. The iphones footprint has not grown since the 11, the watch has.

I mean it's not really hard to see the appeal. More screen=more can be displayed at once. Though I personally am considering a smaller watch next time I get one, because watch apps are designed to fit everything on one screen anyway. Anyway, I can understand the appeal of smaller, but do I _actually have_ a small phone? No, my phone's a 7.6" tablet that folds to fit in my pocket. Most anything I would want to do on a small screen, I can do on my watch. Most anything I need to get my phone out to do, I would rather do it on a bigger screen and with 2 hands. Smaller is more comfortable to use one-handed and to fit in your pocket. Larger is _confortable enough_ and _still fits_ in pockets, and for a lot of people, they'd rather have "good enough" on pocketability and 1-handed use in order to maximize screen size.

I’ve also known several people who likely would have died if not for driving a large, heavy duty vehicle, so increasing stupidity and lower standards of other drivers is another sufficient motivation for people to be interested in large vehicles.

I'd be honestly annoyed if they actually get rid of the 41mm size. My husband has the 45mm and it looks huge AF on my tiny wrists. Don't even get me started on the Ultra. Will have to see it in person, but likely to go for the Series 9 instead if I end up upgrading my Series 7. Could also try to get a battery replacement instead

Unlike their other devices, the sizes on the watch measure the body of the product, not the screen. If the sizes are increasing, that’s the measurement of the body of the watch.

This is so crucial. Unlike on the iphone where dimensions have stayed the same since the 11 while bezels shrink every year, on the watch the actual body of the case has gone from 38mm to now a rumored 45mm. Thats a massive change.

I wear a 41mm SE2 and love it. They could increase the Series 10 flagship sizes and still sell the smaller SE2. The majority of regular people are buying the WiFi-only SE2 for $249. Not just for women, I’m a 5’5” short guy so I prefer the 41mm size. Don’t forget an increase in watch sizes also means an increase in price! I don’t need an always-on display that’s going to decrease battery life, the watch already lights up when raising my wrist. Just like the base iPad 9/10 does nearly everything the average user needs, so does the Watch SE2. Especially since the watch gets beat up from regular wear, I don’t trust myself with an $800 watch LOL. The SE2 is staying put in Apple’s lineup until it stops getting WatchOS updates.

Techbros have really bad taste when it comes to watches, not understanding that aesthetically the silhouette of a watch should completely fit inside the width of your wrist with space left over. Anything bigger looks cartoonishly tacky.

they should just retain the band compatibility but for series 10 add a pogo pin style connector on the band for smart functions, so you can use older bands but also be able to swap out to a new 'smart' band. Also the pogo pin could act as a flashing interface like on series 6 and older. i really hope that the new "smaller" watch has same dimensions as the 41mm only a bigger screen.

Supposedly Apple didn’t like how much each band cut into the watch body, which prevents them from adding more battery. With the amount of space saved, it might add another day to the battery life. I am dubious about magnetic bands, though. How strong would those magnets have to be to keep the band from falling off? Bands need physical locks to hold them in place.

A quote from a former work colleague had me thinking a long time ago when the iPhone 6 came out (She had the iPhone 6 Plus) and I had just bought the iPhone 6, but went on to say how much she had to pay extra for it than the iPhone 6, when I questioned her on why she just didn't get the iPhone she said something that has resonated with me till this day, she said "David while I might be getter older, my eyesight is not getting any better) so I guess the motto of the story is not everyone has 20/20 vision and so any extra real-estate on either a iPhone or watch comes in handy (For us older folk - I'm 61 years old by the way - thanks for asking - have a 45mm watch up from 41mm - Don't think a 49mm watch would look good on my thin wrist though.

I need a smaller watch for my dainty wrists, the Apple Watch Ultra is nearly bigger than my wrist and looks ridiculous if I wear it. And I’m a man! There are certainly women who have even smaller wrists than me, and they need a small watch to wear too. As long as the screen gets bigger without making the case larger it won’t matter, but they are certainly hurting their customer base if they push the case any larger on the smaller watch model.

It’s better than a phone for tracking fitness metrics and listening to music. Paying for stuff using ApplePay is faster. I find it really useful in winter when it’s too cold to take off my mitts and pull the iPhone out of my pocket. Sometimes you don’t even have a pocket for your phone. My iPhone isn’t always close by. If I forget where I’ve put it, I can find it with my Apple Watch. I’m looking forward to the day when my transit pass will be on it, along with the app for unlocking the front door or turning lights on and off.

I have doubts about the change to the watch bands, this feels like when all of the leakers were so certain the Apple Watch series 7 was going to the square design like the iPhone 12 and everyone was saying the design change was "basically confirmed" and then it just didn't happen, there was a bit of a design refresh but not a massive change like everyone was expecting. This feels like they're hearing something like there's a new band connector type or new watch band technology and assuming its dropping all the old bands where it could be something like smart bands that have additional sensors like a blood pressure watch band, something that couldn't be done on just the main watch unit but combined with a watch band could extend the sensor capabilities. Maybe its even like a pin connector that's only on the new watches so the smart bands wouldn't work on older watches (acting only as watch bands but not smart bands) and its getting lost in translation and they're hearing "New watch bands only work on new Apple Watches, not compatible with old watches". I just feel like apple knows people have built up a big watch band collection and changing the connector could cause would be buyers to refrain from upgrading and would cause a lot of controversy especially around all the watch bands that would be thrown away, it could really hurt apple's environmental image they're pushing.. It's especially potent if the Ultra keeps the old watch connector but the consumer grade model doesn't. It just feels a bit too inconsistent and the watch rumors historically have been hit or miss, especially around redesigns.

Gonna go against the crowd here and say i love bigger watches. I have the ultra and i like the size. I feel the bezels could be thinner but overall i like screen size. What im not so in favor of is how boxy it is. I like its flat display but the thickness of the unit is not particularly my favorite. Super honest i dont use the action button at all and actually have nothing mapped to it. So all the rugged aspects like titanium and diving capabilities are useless. So if they could just take out those parts (other than the battery) and make it thinner-id totally grab it. Because the greatest upgrade ever to the apple watch is that bigger battery. Idk how itd look if they made my changes to a regular series watch. But do whatever it takes to get the regular design w/ 49mm screen and the same battery size(life) in the ultra and im sold.
