Two words: Battery Life Everyone wants the convenience of a phone that fits in your pocket. In 07 you could have all day battery life with a smaller form factor. With the more powerful phones we have now, you need a larger form factor. Plus there are other factors, but I would say the battery shapes how manufacturers design phones the most.

iPhones batteries suck no matter how big the phone is. Good luck getting through the day with your 11 Pro with heavy usage. Samsung is better but not for a lot. The reason they’re getting bigger is also because we spent most of our free time in them and having a big screen while still being able to have it in your pocket is a blessing

They called it a Phablet, although really it isn’t a bad name for it anyways. It’s really just saying it’s a Tablet in the form of a phone which really the Galaxy Note already kind of is, The Note is a line that does really push a limit compared to the S line (Except the S20 Ultra because that camera is a pure beast) and sets a high example for Samsung Phones makes me wonder how the Note20 will be this year.

Honestly, because of how the display is designed, the 11 Pro is like the perfect form factor to me. I can still use it with one hand even if some things are a stretch it can be done. But damn is the display immersive! I love that! The colors are super accurate and with dark mode enabled the screen is just a pleasure to look at! Also, Apple putting a bigger battery in 11 Pro was the best decision they’ve made in years! My 11 Pro gets me through an entire day of very heavy no problem. Google maps and streaming music pretty much all day at work plus Bluetooth on the entire time! I average 8-10 hours screen time! The 11 Pro is easily the best smartphone I’ve ever used. Display, battery, performance, build, speakers, reception....it does it all extremely well!

I wouldn’t mind if the next iPhones become a bit thicker, from the current 8.1 mm to 8.5 mm thick body, cause then it would have an even bigger and better battery than the already impressive batteries on the pro and pro max.

They need to stop it.. my first BIG phone was the note2. I thought it was great but the novelty wore off after a few months. I went to the s4 and had a couple other 5"ers until I got the 2016 se. I loved that thing and never wanted another big phone again. I held onto it for four years but eventually needed an upgrade so I went for the 2020 se. It still feels huge after a month but I know I'll get used to it. Regardless, I'd rather still have a 4". Don't think I don't use it much.. I use the hell out of my phones but I still want them to be comfortable in the pocket and ACTUALLY usable with one hand.. I see all these reviewers awkwardly stretching across the screen and saying "oh yeah, I can use it one handed!" Lol. Bullshit. Try answering a text while you're walking down the street on a 5+" device. Awkward, ain't it? I'm not into bezel-less either. They look good but just ain't comfortable to use. I use friends monstrous, all screen devices all the time and I'll take my "dated" iPhone any day. My phone isn't a fashion statement.

It's ironic because I think the 2016 iphone se looks far better than these new iphones that just look like a glorified tablet. I really like looking at the bezels and the home button. It's very aesthetic.

@@jseden It would be amazing if they just upgraded the camera, cpu, ram on the old iphone se and sold it in 2022. I've been really happy with my iphone 2020 because I find the 4.7 inch screen to be the happy medium of a larger screen while still being able to hold it but I'd be really tempted to grab an upgraded 1st gen iphone se if they beefed up the internals. I would hold onto that iphone se as long as you can because I have a feeling one day it will be worth more money. The main reason I even went with the newer iphone se was just because I liked the better camera on the 2nd gen se but in all honesty, it's not that much of an upgrade.
@jseden
@jseden 3 жыл бұрын
@@crate2819 i intend to hang onto it. I had to upgrade because the battery was absolutely shot and the 16gb wasn't cutting it anymore... Especially when you need several gigs for a significant upgrade. However i always used a case and screen protector so it's still in 9/10 condition. Yea the 2nd gen has a better camera but I really didn't feel like It was that much of an upgrade... Mounting it to my motorcycles destroyed the ois anyway. I've got hella shaky cam now, somewhat remedied by a small magnet but it's far from perfect. I'm torn between getting it fixed and just getting a 12 mini now.

Apple is still right, the perfect smartphone should be reachable with a single hand. The problem is, people now use it for what it was not meant (playing games and watching videos, TV and PC were meant for that), so manufacturers have to make them bigger. Also, people perceive a larger display as better quality and tech. If you show them a 100€ 6" phone and a 500€ 4.3" one, they'll assume the 6" one is better and has better tech.

hTC and Samsung pressured Apple to increase its iPhone's screen size. I can't believe that back in 2013, Apple was still using a small 4 inch display on its flagship iPhone 5S while all of its competitors already had displays beyond 4 inches for their non-phablet smartphones.

While I liked most of the video I don't feel you did justice to the pre-iPhone smartphones, they were usable and people even played games and even (gasp) sometimes watched videos on them! But they were made for a nice market, most companies were aiming their products for business users and made their devices fit what they thought the average business user wanted. What made the iPhone special was that it was not aimed at any particular market (except those who could afford it), so it was essentially a computer that could also make calls, it was an all singing all dancing computer in your pocket that was for anyone. I cannot deny though how the iPhone changed the smartphone market for the better, making it accessible for millions, and lets not forget Android users like myself too!

It seems the majority of users prefer the large phone, but there is still a sizeable minority that like a small pocketable phone. It sounds like from next year Apple will be fulfilling both those wishes with 5.3 inch display and 6.8 inch display options. I put myself very much in the smaller phone category, as I will use an iPad when I want a larger screen
