@bmann783 жыл бұрын
Super rare and other nft sites that use application process are simply interested only in artist with large social media followings. These sites make their money on the fees and royalty from an artists sell. In short these types of nft sites are not interested in unknown artist, and unless you are very profitable for them your application will be passed over.
@icksv55293 жыл бұрын
Yes but even if you are not a famous artist but you still work as artist, digital artist, illustrator, 3D artist and so on, marketplaces without a check on quality of the submission, will not help you. I was having a look on mintable but as well rarible and ocean sea. There's a plethora of horrible NFTs clearly made by people that wanna just jump on the band wagon. There are portion of GIFs that you can find on the web, but sold as NFT, there are derivate artworks from comics and movies which could not be sold and there are clear copyright infringement right away. All these NFT listings, clog the marketplace making the search even more difficult and making nice interesting NFTs more difficult to find. The fact that now Mintable offers to list without pay the Gas fee, it's cool but on the other hand will increase the spam of crappy works which will also make more difficult find yours. This was the same problem for art marketplaces, artists thought to have found a way to sell their products, but then platforms opened to anybody was copy/paste something from internet, the quality decreased and such platforms became clogged of mediocre stuff duplicated here and there, etsy docet. Moreover, the process that you describe, it's the same of many art galleries, most of them will not represent you, if you do not have a degree in art no matter how skilled you are, the few that will do it, will do it only if you have already accomplished something significant on your own. This it's not simply because of a matter of money but because their buyers wants to have some guarantee about your skills and about the fact that your artwork will increase in value and because the time of Van Gogh is finished, they will wanna know that you are active, because as you are there are more chances that your name grow in popularity and as well the value of what their purchased. In music, instead, will ask you for your social media and once upon a time it wasn't in this way, it's changed when A. music piracy became pandemic and labels were losing money B. technology allowed more and more people to produce music from home. At that point the only thing that matter were live concerts, but nobody will invest in someone that have a small group of followers, 'cause everybody wants get back of the money invested, frankly, you too. Said this, I feel your pain but I believe a review process it's necessary. It doesn't have to be dramatic or to the extreme such as asking an academic degree and years of experience in venues and contest, but by simply checking you social media, and your portfolio if you have a site dedicated, yes, because it helps to understand the quality of your work and how much serious you are about it.
@bmann783 жыл бұрын
@@icksv5529 agree with most everything you said. However a link to a portfolio, Google drive should be enough to warrant being accepted. Instead they want you to have a big following on social media, likely on all 3, they want an introduction on video( some ) then they also want you to on detail explain what reason you have for wanting to sell your art. Really? These sites are looking for whales. I sculpted in clay for years, made the transition to digital and have been doing that for years and outside of a deviant art page, a recently created art station page and being a member on various forums I personally don't have a social media following strictly for my art. Didn't know I'd ever need one. But even if I did these sites requiring that is absurd. They shouldn't give a shit whether you have 5 fans or 5000, they're going to get paid either way; but they want a guarantee, hence they are only hunting whales atm. Rarible might be a free for all, but good art will stand out regardless.

Great video. One question. When I own a painting (I bought it), can I sell it as an NFT?
@Brandon-3D3 жыл бұрын
I would say no because while you own the physical painting you don’t own the copyright to it. SuperRare requires submissions to be digital. The concept of having an NFT represent the ownership of the physical work is solid though but not without problems. If an original artist wanted to create an NFT that is accompanied by a physical painting, other markets will let you do that. But I worry about what happens down the road. Say you sell the NFT and mail the painting to the buyer. All good. But if that buyer wants to sell it how does the next buyer know the painting is the original? It’s a messy area that still needs to be figured out.
@makelife96613 жыл бұрын
@@Brandon-3D Thank you so much for your comprehensive answer. It is a difficult story to get it all right. Now I am taking a picture of the painting I own. The photo has my copyrights because I took the photo of my own property. Of course that also gives rights to do something with that. For example, an NFT. After all, I am free to take a picture and publish it. After all, the same is true if you take a picture of a city. I don't own the city but I may publish and sell the photo with my copyright on it. Therefore, I fully agree with you that this is going to be an interesting one.

@makelife96613 жыл бұрын
@@Brandon-3D It looks like you are right. I've figured some things out. In the USA it is arranged more vaguely than, for example, in Europe. In the USA it is actually Fair use or commercial use. In practice this means that for non-commercial use there are not many rights to a reproduction. But for commercial use there are many rights. In Europe and especially in the Netherlands where copyright is strictly protected, it is simple. If an author/artist has died 70 years ago then all rights expire. If the artist is alive plus 70 years you just have to have permission from the author/artist to reproduce his/her work. So I am going to approach the artist and see if we can make a deal.
