I called Dexcom about using the abdomen because i have trouble with my hands. They say they have not done enough testing on abdomen application, but if your doctor says it’s okay then you can apply to abdomen. So that’s what I did and it seems like it’s working great. So far I like it! I like the enormous savings in plastic. It seems more accurate than the G6.

I have a paradigm Medtronic pump and a libre 2 sensor - they don’t talk to each other but after 37 years of not managing my diabetes and being high and low - I loooove it - it’s antiquated this pump but it’s still better for my - my hb1ac is now 6.3 a little too low now so I’m working with a de to work out my insulin sensitivity etc and dialling back the pump basal etc - best thing to date is I eat and then I bolus whereas before I just stopped eating so I wouldn’t have to inject - absolutely life changing and probably life saving too!!!

Thanks for the video Tom! Unfortunately Dexcom is very unfair to the Android users. Whenever I get a new Android update, or when I switch my phones (from Pixel 5 to 6 and then to 7 pro), the Dexcom app doesn't work and says that it's not tested with that version. It's like we are forced to choose apple products. On the other hand, Freestyle libre always worked fine with all the phones and updates that I had. I hope Dexcom fix these issues.

@@alliemay6076 I agree that it's difficult especially because the FDA demands testing it with each versions of android. However these are all typical challenges in a work. it is not the problem caused by Dexcom. Every time there is a new phone, Dexcom has to recreate its apps to work with a new phone version, update them, test them and get an approval. All these take time. It happens with new Apple products too.

Thanks Tom, well done! The one app feature I'd really like is a voice announcement feature at a user-chosen interval of blood glucose level and direction. For example, every five minutes I hear: " 95 Flat" or "210 Falling Fast". I exercise regularly and would really like to hear my blood sugar without any manual intervention on my part. It seems to be a straightforward feature in the app and I don't understand why it's not available. I saw somewhere that iPhone users may be able to ask Siri and this is still too much work.

I've thought about this often, and agree. Though I would do it a bit differently. Instead of every five minute, announce when I pass established levels, like every 20 mg/dl -- for example, "180 rising" or "120 falling". Many fewer interruptions but still alerts me when it's important.

I tried the G7 after using Libre 1 and then Libre 2 CGM's. The G7 are supposed to last for 10 days but after going through a three-month supply in less than 2 months they lasted on average 6 days for me before sensor failure. I loved the continuous readings to my phone and watch but I had a couple fail after one day of use! I'm back with the Libre 2 as the Libre 3 isn't available here in NZ yet but have found it to be reliable and lasts the full 14 days. It's a shame as I loved the features of the G7. I contacted my supplier about the failures but they aren't interested at all.

I recently switched from G6 to G7 and noticed three issues 1. It disconnects quite frequently though it is in range of 20 ft , never disconnected even if I am away 30ft in G6 2. The values are going up and down in saw tooth pattern rather it used to be smooth before 3. Does it store all samples and transmits when connected after few minutes as we used to wait 15 minutes every time it disconnects 4. Overall I see G6 values are pretty closer to fingersticking than G7 any comments

Medicare covers Dexcom G7, usually a 3 month supply at a time. One waterproof “over patch” comes with each sensor. They can be sticky and tricky to get on. Customer service said they are working on supplying JUST extra over patches as many have called needing extras rather than opening a whole new meter box just to get another patch out. Other than that it works great.

I look forward to seeing more information on the G7. I guess I am weird because I don’t mind the 10 life span of the G6, I guess because I really didn’t like the Libre (earlier version than the latest one) because it didn’t wake me up when my glucose fell low during the night and my G6 does a good job of waking me up.

I also would restart my sensors but then I just ran into the problem where my transmitter hit it's 90 days anyways so I would have extra sensors I couldn't use and my med supply/insurance would only send me the transmitter with 9 sensors at a time as a made up bundle and not just a transmitter. If I end up with a spare/extra transmitter from my endo then I for sure do it but don't know how much of a loss it would be in my case. I'm just super happy the G7 is almost here (in the US and loop) Bolus from my phone was already a big win for me and now this snuck up on me since I was sick of watching out for the G7 so I haven't checked in on it for awhile and then just randomly saw this vid.

@@chio987 My insurance lets me pick up my supplies from the local Walgreens in 90 day supply increments do I get 9 sensors at a time and 1 transmitter. I restart the sensor 2 times so 9 sensors last 9 months and a transmitter usually lasts about 100+ days. So by extending my sensors my copay costs me $40/ month instead of $73 / month when averaged out. The only complication is I have to calibrate several times on day 1 of a restart. For me a restarted sensor always starts out reading high after the warmup period. After day one the sensor reads well the rest of the 9 days.

The price is $150 per sensor and my insurance pays $100 so that’s $150 out of pocket. Is there any help out there for that? When you say that the lag time between interstitial fluids and blood glucose is now only 3.5 minutes, was that a claim that Dexcom was making? Or was that from personal observation? It sounds a little too good to be true, but that alone would make it the deciding factor for me.

Tom. Very helpful!!! My question: does the alarm part of the app work the same on Android as it does on Apple? I found to my extreme frustration that it does not compare for the freestyle libre 2. I voiced a lot of frustration to Abbott especially after customer service insisted they were the same and after I got an email from diabetic care telling me all the great features. Those features were not there. On Android, no Dismiss button. Plus on Android the alarm is either off or on. No quiet sound and no vibrate. Just loud warnings!!!

Thanks for the review. I have been using Libre and because the sensor fibre is very short and strictly needs to be 90 degrees angle, I have constantly had sensor failure or the sensor would literally pop out of my arm under intense exercise. I understand that the fibre for G7 is also very short and needs to be applied at 90 degrees too, does it cause the same issues like Libre?

What is the inserted filament on the G7 like? Short, long, stiff, flexible etc. Had issues with the libre short stiff filaments.

With a CGMS, the change to the newer model does not cost the insurance company anything extra. You stop buying the old CGMS, and start buying the new CGMS. Unlike with a pump, where you pay the whole cost up front. CGMS sensors are 1-2 weeks and then have to be replaced. At roughly the same cost. Changing CGMS is like going from Humalog to Novolog to Apidra insulin. Assuming your insurance company approves all three, it would not care which you use or if you switch from one to the other every month. That is how a CGMS should work too.

The G6 was supposed to be on abdomen! G7 is much better on the arm. Overpatch should be on so you don’t bump it(loose). 15 min and no calibration is the best feature. A lot more expensive, even with insurance! Features are much better with the G7. Averages glucose level over 3-7-14-21 days.

Just started G7 - #1 failed within 12 hours (called for replacement) #2 failed after 8 hours (called for replacement) #3 working. Totally wonky readings, constantly needs calibration & is VERY inconsistent with glucometer readings NOT seen with G6, vacillating readings in time periods too short to be believed. Sum total = back to G6

You said you can start a new sensor with the old one still in place and when the warm-up period is over, you can SWITCH. I'm not sure what that means. Is that the point you enter the sensor number or does it mean that you take the old one off???? Thanks for your help.

My question is when i set it up after said lost connection but the receiver was ok still working. My question is I uninstalled the app and logged in now says new sensor. If I'm still using the new one that is day 1 it saying new sensor is ok because it was set yesterday.

I have been waiting for the G7 for a couple of years I found out this month that my insurance will cover the sensors but it won’t cover the receiver I don’t have a smart phone or anything like that so I need the receiver and I was also told my old receiver won’t work with the G7 it only works with the G6 I don’t know why they couldn’t make the G6 receiver work with the G7 but apparently my insurance will only cover their receiver every five years and I was only able to get the G6 about three years ago which means I would have to wait two more years wondering if you have any suggestions or a way to try and get a receiver for a good price

This all looks and sounds promising. I thought about possibly switching from Libre 3 to the G7, mainly because the Libre 3 app is total and utter crap, at least on my Android (it's not in the list of compatible devices). But with the sensor still living only 10 days... and then I'm not even able to place the sensor a day in advance in order to really get accurate readings from the start, unless I'm willing to sacrifice 10% of the sensor's lifespan... Another thing (for me at least) is the look - definitely far far better than the G6, but it looks really shiny and medical. It's probably just a matter of taste, I can see how people like that slick design, but I like how the Libre 3 looks just like I ripped off a button from a shirt and glued it to my arm. Rather discreet and inconspicuous, not branded, no visible patch arond it. I don't know. I would have to try it first and see, whether the app would justify a switch. But I doubt it. After all the Libre app still does most of what I would want it to do and I've learned to live with its flaws.
