Applying risk controls and reassessing risk is the final piece of the hazard assessment process. Too often though, applying controls is done out of context or the final reassessment is subjective. Quantifying the controls helps to solve this problem. Watch the view and leave a comment with your thoughts.

My book says Risk = Probability x consequences x exposure

Follow your course material. As far as risk goes, you need to be able to quantify it objectively, removing as much subjectivity as possible. Hence the reason I use the method I do. There are others out there as well. Ideally using a matrix to apply some subjectivity to the quantification scores is best. I have seen hazard assessments that note the hazards and then note different controls and that's it. It satisfies the legislation but when you dive deeper, it doesn't provide a decision making matrix. Hope I didn't complicate things for you! Cheers! --Kevin
