We've always done a scratch coat diagonally to the mortar lines then add a final coat...sometimes 2 coats...but thats to make the homeowner happy. Do what makes YOU happy.. If for some reason to want to paint the wall, make sure the Ph is low....spray the wall...not with the pressure washer...for a few weeks...or let it rain. I certainly wish I could have had a crew of you when I built houses... You two are rocking it. Don't forget to stucco the top to prevent water getting in to the wall...it will cause the stucco to pop off.

Can you polish (as in rub over with a sponge) Stucco as it starts to go off (set)? This looks a lot like K Rend which is a weather proofing but a lot more expensive

I also learned the diagonal masking technique when I ran a crew in Florida years ago. They were rocking their rhythm though! We did a lot of two-tone and knock-down finishes, but due to materials use, can be quite expensive.

You guys are doing such a great job on everything! The wall looks amazing with the stucco. I love that! A little tip on white stucco…get some Thompson’s Water Seal or something like that. Put it in a garden sprayer and spray the bottom 3 feet of the stucco. When it rains, the mud sitting against the stucco and splashing onto the stucco will penetrate the stucco and permanently stain it. Keep up the great work!

Their planned use of landscape gravel will take care of a lot of that splash-back issue, but I would still do a waterseal top to bottom for future maintenance prevention.

Nike's slogans came to mind: "Just Do It" but also "You learn as you go", "Practice makes perfect", "Mistakes are the best teachers", "Memories are made of these" and a bunch more as I was watching the video. It reminds me of the things my oldest brother and I were doing around the house we once lived in. We were also doing things we didn't know how to do but, in those days, we didn't have the internet to look things up but had manuals and other instructions we read first. Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it and you two are one of the best examples. Also, the way you two work so well together reminds me of how my late wife and I used to work together like a well-oiled team. The one thing we always had was a large dose of humor and the ability to step back and look at the situation if things went south. Kudos to you two!
