Great, thx a lot for this nice video. Your videos are always a good start into the weekend .😊 In this video the greek ATC is a little bit 'challenging', but you get it probably clearer through your headsets. Have a nice weekend and best regards.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for your friendly feedback! The audio in the video is the same as in the headsets. Sometimes ATC is talking as we did the briefing or discussed something in the cockpit. Also people from different countries pronounce the English language somehow a little different. I suggest watching and hearing this video and my other Greek approach videos several times. After that it may be easier to understand the local ATC communications. For us it is the same: If we fly the first time to or through a certain country, it may be difficult to understand ATC. After a few times, it is becoming much more easy as we are getting used to the local pronunciations. And: If we do not understand an ATC message and we think that the message was important, we always ask for clarification. Getting back to Greek ATC: They are always doing a great job. Especially on the small airports, they know how to perfectly manage the limited capacities and are always friendly and very helpful. I have to thank them a lot.

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I don't make a habit of not responding to Commercial Jet Pilots who not only gave me the privilege of reading my comment but also took the time acknowledging a pleb like me. I finally caught your new departure video from Kos (as promised) and (as also promised) the view of Kalymnos during the departure was an almost religious experience. The old back track up R32 (it is 32 yh? I am sure the southbound designation is R8) brought back wonderful memories due to the view provided straight down the runway. Love your videos and I am in awe of your work and the optimal use of CRM you clearly exhibit when working with the Captain. @stee with2ees Thanks again for your personal feedback and the nice words. Kos runway designation is 32 and 14. That's 140 or 320 degrees as the origin for the name runway. As the opposite runway is 180 degrees opposite, we just have to deduct 180 degrees from 320 degrees and we get the result of 140 degrees. Until 2006, it was runway 33 and 15. The designation changed because the local compass variation in Kos changed over time. Right now, the compass should show 323 or 143 degrees when on the runways. Have a great day!

OMG! This is amazing! without the ILS it must be super hard to land like that. Question 1) Do you have to use the rudder paddles to make a coordinated turn on A320 or it's not required and only needed for smaller aircrafts? Question 2) There's no manual control to only operate left or right spoilers (I think). Autopilot or the heading knob also moves one of the spoilers (left or right) during a turns in addition to ailerons. How do you replicate this during manual turn because both spoiler move together? Question 3) Why the captain was frequently moving the speed brakes lever during the flight?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
It is prohibited to use rudder pedals during normal flight on the Airbus! Rudder is only for nosewheel steering, single engine operations, crosswind landings, and abnormal situations. On light airplanes, it is essential to use the rudder together with the aileron for every turn to keep the ball centered. Spoilers and ailerons are reflected the same if the autopilot flies or if you fly by hand as long as you fly the same maneuvers. I used the speedbrakes during the approach to add drag for an increase in descent rate or a faster speed reduction.

Captain your flight logs are one more amazing and beautiful than the last. Of course they also are educational which brings me to my question. You were instructed to cross Morix at FL70 if I heard corretly. 40 NM away at FL150 using the 3:1 glide rule would require roughly 25NM to lose 8000'. Why was the descent rate so steep and why not put in the 7000' restriction in the FMGC and let managed descent take care of it? Many thanks and With lots of respect -Kam
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and your question. The standard approach which we briefed and planned was via Morix. It required us to cross Morix at 4000 feet or above. We were only cleared to 7000 feet but further descent to 4000 feet or even lower would have followed. We could have done a fully managed approach descent. Direct Morix was already a shortcut and we had to increase the descent rate for some time to stay on path after the shortcut. In addition, we expected a visual approach, which further reduces the distance. So we continued with idle thrust and increased the speed and with the speed the descent rate increased to get rid of some altitude. At that point we were at about 16000 feet with about 60 nautical miles to fly and 35 knots of tailwind. The visual approach reduced the distance to about 40 nautical miles. I hope this explanation helps a little bit. Have a nice day!

Hi excellent as always and with a briefing now!! We simmers are able to follow with our charts! Incidentally, just curious, what are the dates of the approach and RNAV plates you used? Didn’t hear that in the briefing. Wanting to check against the ones I buy. Keith
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for being a regular viewer. We do not have to check the individual chart date. This had to be done years ago as we flew with printed charts. At that time it was always possible that one pilot had a different chart than the other pilot. That happened, if one pilot did not get a revision by mail or did not put the required revision page in his or her personal chart binder. Now it is different. Everything is digital and we update all the charts, manuals, performance programs ... on the pilots computers on every flight day. So we only have to check that everything is up the current revision cycle. In the airplane, we check before the flight that the current revision cylce is the active cylce in the FMGS. Chart data and the FMGS data are updated every 28 days and usually transmitted a few days in advance.

Hello captain. I am waiting for the LTFE landing video :) May i ask for the the FIX info radius degrees? How much radius are them ? Is it KOPAR arrival chart? @ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. If you hear our briefing: It was the Kopar 2L arrival with RNP32 approach. The vertical speed of the airplane is completely different from the vertical speed of the cabin. Even if we descent with 4000 feet a minute or more for a while, the cabin will stay at a rate of for example 500 feet a minute. The airplane would tell us, if the cabin is not able to follow our descent with a normal cabin descent rate. In a non pressurized airplane the cabin vertical speed would be the same and a descent rate of 4000 feet a minute would not be liked by the passengers. I haven't been to Bodrum for a while. But as soon as I fly there, I try to record and publish a video. Thanks for your patience. Have a nice day!

Great video! Quick question, I can't for the life of me understand what TWR says at 14:14 after "descend", then your First Officer responds and also says complete gibberish (to me) after "descending to...". What is being said there?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos

Thanks for watching and your question. The TWR clears us for a descent to „traffic circuit altitude“. This is the traffic pattern altitude we use for a visual approach. Have a nice day!

Exiting visual approach, I would assume you don't get to do these much.

Thanks for watching and the nice feedback! It depends on the destinations and the traffic situation. There are airports, like Dusseldorf or Cologne in Germany which prohibit visual approaches under normal circumstances for large aircraft. Other airports have different regulations. Especially at the smaller airports in Greece, Spain or Italy visual approaches are usually approved if the traffic situation permits. It reduces the flight time, saves fuel, produces less emissions and makes more fun.

One question, please: does the second (non-flying) pilot keep his hand on the yoke out of habit or can he intervene ..? Complimenti, bel video ;)

Thanks for watching, your great feedback and your question. The pilot monitoring has his hand usually near or at the sidestick during the approach. He or she is doing the communication and one of the push to talk buttons for the radio communication is located at the sidestick. Also he needs to be able to take over the controls from the pilot flying at any time. The Airbus has a very nice adjustable armrest which keeps the arm and the hand very relaxed in this position. Have a nice day!

When shutting down, it looks like the rear right slide wasn't armed. Isn't that a huge safety compromise?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Жыл бұрын
No, there were no safety compromises. Everything in accordance to good safety procedures. The rear right slide was the first slide which had been disarmed at the call "Cabin crew all doors in park". As the lower ECAM took a moment to change from the wheel to the door page, it showed the door already disarmed and moments later the other doors also disarmed. This is the normal procedure. It depends on the speed of the cabin crew members disarming the slides. Most of the time, you see the slides first all still armed, but if one or the other flight attendant is really fast, it looks like at this flight.

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Hey there! Thanks for explaining! I'm aware of these, in my mind I didn't even think that the cabin crew could have been that fast disarming the slides, that's why I thought it wasn't even armed in the first case, which would be quite a safety hazard during an emergency. Thanks for explaining and no worries mate :)

Vielen dank Herr Kapitan und ihr Erster Offizier. When I purchase my first private aircraft, jet of course, if you are still airborne, I will offer you a salary you would not be able to refuse to be my pilot. Interested to know if you have done any training instruction in your career so far. You certainly have the personality to do so.
