That coastal storm finally got things going here in southwestern CT too John. Blues have begun to show much more action on the surface. Dinky 14"-16" stripers are occasionally being caught on topwater. Splashes made by blues are getting bigger. Water temperatures have finally dropped to the lower 70s, ranging from 70.9 to 71.6 at the local NOAA-run buoy as of this weekend. A hot summer and a sunny, very dry September have led to a late start to our fall run. Who knows how far into the fall the stripers will stay active and if this upcoming cooling trend with possible frost will turn things on even more.

Down in the Panhandle the storm brought everything. The night after with raised water levels made the fish incredibly active. The day of the storm was so active we were using our hands to brush baitfish off our surfboards.

Months after Ian the fishing was great in SW Florida. We had a 5-ft surge on Helene. I wonder if the big flush will be helpful like it appeared to be with Ian.

Hey John, been using those pliers for the last 2 years now. I never clean them and they get dunked and thrown in the sand and they’ve stayed perfect. Awesome pliers for a fair price

Down here in VA I only get about a month every spring when the strippers are in the river close to me. During that time I fish nearly every day though. There’s nothin like a good top water bite though, especially when I’m throwing the spook.

I've observed Bass following the bluefish that I hooked, i assume that they were waiting for the bluefish to upchuck. Bass are opportunists. How did Pine Island make out?

@@JohnSkinnerFishing haha my man , yeah no I get it. Funny I haven’t been on a boat in a while since my Dad passed, nothing like tossing those pencils at dusk and dawn. I love that you catch sharks - seasonally on the Skinner rod sooo cool alll healthy releases, you’re awesome i gotta get out there, early bird gets the worm . Question- If I wanted to get a new go pro, what model do you recommend? And what minutes is the submarine in the other video ? Watch it on the train on the way to work, I must’ve dozed off , awaiting your albie video if it’s not already posted !! 👌 you’re the best. Thank you 🙏

John, how fast, or slow, do you retrieve that spook? Also on the bucktail, do you ever add skin scraps from fluke or blue as a kind of a trailer - like you might do with a pork rind?
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing Ай бұрын
I use mostly Fat Cow Jig Strips on the bucktails, never real meat, although I've used fluke strips for fluke. The spook is pretty slow. Like a crank on each pull. If it looks good on the surface then that's a retrieve worth trying.

Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed the link. I've used the SaltX 2 3000, and it seems great. That said, I've had no issues with the original SaltX. Those are a very good deal for $300.
