Another great vid, thank you. When the fly fishing season in my area in Europe is over I get to watch skillful Skinner perform my fav kind of saltwater fishing in the US. Priceless when u get to fish on your own for stripers and blues off the LI shores. I miss it. P.S. I had no idea how many bot-women had invaded YT to comment on fishing videos, lol.

The lure color thing- I always have to think about this when I'm choosing a paint scheme for a lure I've made. Fish are typically looking up, so the lure is outlined by the sky. I always hold a lure up to the sky and surprisingly colors can almost disappear, I think it's a lighter or darker thing and less "the color"- Thought I'd share cause I've wondered about this too.

Mullet in the water is one of the few times I'm particular about color (blue), otherwise it's hard to go wrong with white/yellow.

"The fish don't always read the book." I like that. What US general said, "The enemy always gets a vote." Not that the fish are our enemies but... proceed with an open mind and be ready to adapt to conditions as they arise.

John, in all seriousness, can you explain how so many other fishermen seem to be fishing the south shore in the dead of night in full wetsuits, bleeding from getting blasted into the rocks by the surf, and you seem to consistently catch hogs on the bay side in the afternoon from the beach? What am I missing?

Awesome questions. I don't wash the surf bucktails. They do OK drying in the surf bag inserts. I spray the rod/reel lightly with fresh water. At least I should.

Regarding that smallish bass whacking that big nuclear green plug, wouldn't it be a case of seeing an unknown "invader" and defending one's home turf (I mean surf?) That instinct is hardwired into many animal species.

Almost an our from the eastern North Fork.
@dashriprock57203 ай бұрын
@@JohnSkinnerFishing You have such a great variety of options there. I'm across the Sound, South central Ct. Our fishing is not the best in the North East. It's hard for surfcasters with all the privately owned land. Some of the best Stiped bass fishing is in the rivers and not a lot of room in areas that produce, they tend to get over crowded. Even along the rivers there is private property or railways you can't cross without trespassing or you can end up in a not so good area. Thanks for the response.

Many other youtubers work in similar conditions to you and have wind sock/pop filters to pretty much eliminate the wind distortion. Thanks.
@JohnSkinnerFishing3 ай бұрын
Great and helpful comment! I actually have a wind sock in my camera bag, but it works poorly if I don't put it on the camera. I'll try to remember in windy situations. On this video what you're hearing is way more surf than wind. It was very loud there.
