First off, a dyno is a tool for tuning. It's all about what you came in with vs what you left with (under the curve gains, etc). There are many different filters you can view the data with, and variables to consider. One dyno could say you make 400hp, another 350... it would still run the same 1/4 mile and trap speed. Stage 1 is probably 13s @ 103-107 mph car in the 1/4. It's a fun car, and I am considering getting another one for a DD. Don't get too caught up on dyno numbers people, that's for people who like to stand around parking lots and measure each other's genitals.
@Osprey19945 жыл бұрын
I kinda agree and I kinda disagree, % gain over stock is more important but actually meeting power estimates is also important. If a company is dating 300+ whp and they are only getting 270 that would be a major issue. So the fact it's with 10-15hp of the estimate is awesome.

Sick gains for around $600,...just spoke to VW earlier before even watching any of your videos and they mentioned APR stage 1 at around what you paid without any warranty promises from VW. Said if something major happens VW sees it when they plug in your ECU now where as in the past they couldn't. For between $1250-$1600 I think he said at VW they will Warranty the APR install straight form the dealer. Thought that might be some useful knowledge for anyone considering tuning. I like cheap, but we send a lot of money on our cars to not have them covered. Just a thought for everyone out there. Great videos!!!!

The dyno sheet actually said engine horsepower (flywheel, unless thats the wheel you’re meaning?) 319hp at the fly seems correct, as 316 is whats stated by apr in the uk running 98/99 ron (octane) fuel. 319hp at the wheels seems incorrect as that would ROUGHLY mean about 340/350hp at the engine. Also what did it run on the dyno before the tune was fitted as that would let you know how accurate the dyno is.

Most of the top Stage 1 tunes show about 80 - 90 HP gains over stock. I have a ED Stage 1.5 (basically the high torque version of Stage 1) and get about 310 whp and about 370 TQ. APRs own website shows a Stage 1 tunes being 316hp but this varies by dyno and things like temp and altitude. The reason most people underestimate them is they take the stock number (210) and add the gain (87) and think they're going to be 290 something. The reality is, the non-pp GTIs really back about 215 - 220hp at the wheels, and the PP GTIs are over 230. VW under-rates them for marketing reasons. 87hp gain on 230 is 317 (and when tuning it doesn't matter whether you have the PP or nonPP, you get the same end result). Nice vid. Subbed.

I just bought a gti, picking it up Monday morning and have a stage 1 apr tube scheduled for Monday afternoon. They are guaranteeing a minimum of 90 horsepower increase and stock it sits at 236. It’s an autobahn model. 1. Will the stage 1 tune truly have that much of a gain where it’s felt that drastically? 2. Without hardware upgrades such as clutch, Cold air intake and an exhausted system will the gains be sustainable ? Meaning will my vehicle be subject to increased wear and tear ? I’ve heard that even with a stage 1 tune the clutch can slip occasionally…

Stage 1 93 High Torque right? That 319 was “crank” not “wheel”. Without going through all this promotional video, any viewer could just use APRs reported dynos and they would show the same as yours. 319hp = 288+/-(2)whp under optimum conditions. Excellent tune files no doubt; just not WHP. * Every dyno will read differently and they are used as “tuning” mechanisms and not for measuring true power 👍🏻
@Russellscottx4 жыл бұрын
Only engine dynos measure crank horse power...all other dynos measure wheel horse power...granted it was a cold day and that number was un-corrected for sea level...I don’t get how people don’t understand that a dyno that spins via the cars wheels measures wheel horse power...you don’t get crank numbers from a mustang dyno
@MegaHollywood19714 жыл бұрын
@@Russellscottx With 379ft/lb PEAK @3387RPM at your elevation you are making approx 287-88whp M8. That 319 is crank when they make their correction. Just remember that each tuner and/or dyno uses their own settings and they will all read differently. I cannot phathom that APR would list their HP numbers as WHP - if that is what they are doing, then they are 10% lower than the number they should show. Also, noticed that the turbo was working a bit harder at elevation to reach the torque target - which was registered on the machine at 42.8 or 28psi. Very fortunate that the ambient is cold.

Is your car DSG or manual? Do you have a DSG tune or an upgraded clutch? And what octane fuel/tune are you using? And since that's a mustang dyno are those corrected or uncorrected power numbers? Also what was the temperature outside on the day of the dyno?
@yongshixian97792 жыл бұрын
his car is a manual as u can seen it shifting in video, usually people will upgrade their clutch when they tune. as for dsg, ur going to be fine with stage 1 ecu tune, recommended one stage 1 dsg tune after stage 2.

Good numbers Russ, I have a MK7 GTI APR stage 1 and I’m under 4K miles, just installed my dp and I’m so ready to get to my tuner next week to get the stage 2! Are you doing a dyno run soon after you get your stage 2?
@Russellscottx7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And yeah I'm planning on doing another dyno run here real soon since I just got the stage 2 tune. You're gonna love it! Thanks for watching!
@watsonsfamilytravels6 жыл бұрын
You do realise that 319bhp was at the crank yes? This is one of the funniest videos I've watched in a long time!
@Russellscottx6 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, dyno's measure wheel horse power not crank but thanks for watching!
@watsonsfamilytravels6 жыл бұрын
Have a look at the APR website - www.goapr.co.uk/products/ecu_upgrade_20tsi_gen3_mqb.html It states that Stage 1 is 316bhp and standard is 235bhp (APR Measured). Are you telling me that VW said the Golf GTi MK7 makes 235wbhp standard? Manufacturers give it at crank.
@Russellscottx6 жыл бұрын
They either using a engine dynameter which gives them crank numbers (having the motor out of the car and running it) or they're using a correction formula factoring in friction loss. Either way the dyno we used measures wheel horse power, not crank since it's recording the numbers at the wheels. Check this out - www.onallcylinders.com/2012/05/11/dyno-duel-engine-vs-chassis-dynos-what-you-should-know/

Which stage 1 tune did you have? 87,91,93? Low or high torque? Or was there only 1 stage 1 tune offered at the time?
@saladdinX6 жыл бұрын
I seriously doubt it makes 319 at the wheels. Its more likely 319 at the crank. Or the dyno needs to be recalibrated
@ColinAndCo.6 жыл бұрын
I didn't believe it either but there are hundreds of dynos out there saying the same thing. I had a 335 before this and although it was rated at the factory 300/300, people were saying it was closer to 340/360. And trust me, it felt like that when driving it.

So the issue I have is if I go to get a apr tune, they don't even offer this, or have changed their numbers. Because their own page on ecs says 250 hp... I literally used your link. And they are telling people you have to be in Ohio to get the tune.

I sub'd to your channel specifically because I have a MK7 GTI with APR stage 1 93 oct. tune and an APR intake (amongst other mods but none that would affect power). I have been contemplating going stage 2 for over a year now since I have had zero problems with my current setup. I'm lookin forward to watching your results once you go the extra step. Are you planning on buying the APR downpipe? (that seems to be the way to go)

Hey man love the Channel. I have a mk7 Gti I’m about to do apr stage 1 this week I wanted to know do u have any issues with traction. I mean I’m sure in first gear but any other gears are you able to get the power all the way to the road?
@Russellscottx7 жыл бұрын
If you just drive normally its just fine through all the gears but on the other hand if you turn off traction control I can break tire through third gear

I just got a 2016 GTI Dsg automatic non-pp. Thinking about getting the stage 1, and nothing further afterwords. I heard that you have to keep the stock intake with a stage 1 is that true? Is it worth getting the stage 1 for the automatic Tran
@Russellscottx6 жыл бұрын
No you definitely don't have to keep the stock intake...I ran my intake for awhile before I got tuned for stage 2! And I'm not quite sure about the trans but I'm sure that it would make a big difference especially with the new power you're going to have! Thanks for watching!

I'm gonna get mine dyno'd over here in WA. I'm on the MA Performance stage 1 91 w/intake. I'd like to be over 300 whp, that be nice to be 319! Keep up the good work dude!

do you have the cobb tune from MA Performance?
@thecarwashcompanyusa7 жыл бұрын
Yup!
@TeddyWestside4127 жыл бұрын
Steve Barber very interested to hear what that tune puts down. Pretty sure their stage one is pretty comparable but APR has the highest for stage 2 that I've seen. I know JR14 fried his clutch with that MA Performance so it's got to have some power for you.
@u2bgeye6793 жыл бұрын
Wtf how is that possible. Gti from factory puts down 228 at the crank so would be like 180ish at the wheels right? So you’re telling me with just a STAGE 1 tune it gains 140 whp??? I thought it was supposed to increase by like 60-70hp max? Am I getting that right or do these cars actually put more than claimed when stock?
