Not a fan of diving in underneath for this very reason, if the outside driver is not checking his mirrors one or both of you is going off. The fact that this happened during qualifying is what makes this even more ridiculous, as I am sure the driver of this car was not expecting someone to dive in under him....SMH

@SuperGlacierGirl2 жыл бұрын
Have raced there before, was taught to center the overpass,then cut the inside curb before you straighten out for the S/F line. Otherwise that corner will throw you into the outside wall. That other driver had no business to pass on the inside there. Even if he hadn't hit you, he would have pushed you into the wall. Damn shame.

How far back was the guy when you went down the hill at the end of the back straight? How far back when you went under the bridge?
@jpmullaney6 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I saw nothing in my mirrors coming down the back straight. He wasn't in my mirrors going into T10b. At the top of the hill under the bridge eyes were forward for obvious reasons. Because of the angle coming down the hill I couldn't see anything on the inside in my mirror as I looked into turn in to T12. I also had a spotter up by the tower at T12 and he didn't see anything until the very last seconds. Bottom line is that T12 is a nasty place to make a pass on someone.

Do you get any sort of compensation from the person who causes the accident?
@jpmullaney2 жыл бұрын
NO, It doesn't work that way. Each driver takes care of any damage to their own car. If someone is reckless and causes unnecessary car to car contact then there are procedures for sanctioning them. Typically a 10-10 where the driver is banned from racing for 10 races or 10 months. This information is also shared with almost all of the other sanctioning bodies in the USA.

Armchair post AF. but Blue flag or not, that driver should not have been allowed to continue driving, even if he was able to, that was a ludicrous place to try a pass and shows a clear lack of judgement. I hope you were OK and the car was at least recoverable, but that looked like a hell of a hit

Corner worker at turn 6 gave you a blue flag. Why not let that car around you after turn 7 and before turn 10?
@jpmullaney3 жыл бұрын
The blue flag was for the car I had just passed. When I cleared 7, there was no one in my rear mirrors. My spotter called me clear all the way through turn 10. The guy that hit me was at the end of a super fast qualifying lap and I was just setting up for mine when I came over the hill going to 12. As you know you can't see anything in your mirrors because of the elevation changes and turns from 10 thru 12. My spotter was in the tower and he said the guy closed so fast on me that he didn't have a chance to warn me. The interesting questions are: a) Who's responsibility is it to make a safe pass... (the overtaking car); b) where do you overtake a car in front of you... (you go off line expecting the car in front to maintain his line), and c) Why risk a high speed overtake at turn 12 when you aren't in a race... we were qualifying, not racing and everyone out there was trying to find clean air. In the end, it was just a bad day.

You don't get to punt someone into the wall just because you are in a qualifying session. That's the rule-passer is responsible for safely overtaking. The common sense part is not doing it down the steepest fastest turn on the track with the least runoff. In a qualifying session. In historics. 🤦🏻

Tyler, this is one of the Doran built ALMS spec GT2 cars. Chassis #003. It was originally campaigned by Tim Pappas & Tony Lazzaro with Black Swan Racing in the Falken Tire #54 livery. It was subsequently sold to ACS Express Racing in it's current livery with the #10. It was wrecked at Road Atlanta. I purchased the car from Wire Wheel and had it sent straight to Robertson Racing where it has been completely rebuilt to the current specification of the other 3 original Doran cars running the Piloti Livery. All 4 of the cars are now with Robertson Racing in Atlanta Ga. After my crash at Road Atlanta in The Mitty, the team at Robertson have rebuilt the car better than new. We were able to campaign it mid July at The Hawk in Road America. It performed flawlessly.
