My 21 year old daughter was almost grown when she learned the ducks, geese and swans were not different stages of a life cycle, so you’re not alone. She blames me ( of course).

Watching this on Friday morning on your birthday so Happy Birthday! I agree that Swans can be vicious creatures! We had to do an extra two miles on a walk once when two swans blocked a canal path and refused to let anyone pass! Even two burly men tried to shift them and one attacked and it was frightening! Ah Canada geese and swans are lovely. I walk around a local lake every weekend and feed them and they have become very friendly. I get a lovely greeting from the male swan when he sees me and the geese come up and I get to hand feed some. Last year it was cute when they had their young the goslings recognised me and came running over to nibble my fingers and they curled up on my feet.

True Story. Downtown near the Library, there used to be a pond that had the most beautiful swans. One day, I don't know why, I decided to feed one a hot dog. She/He/It? bit me! And then, chased me off. Very rude bird! That was the last time I tried to feed a water fowl! So I advise people to keep their distance. Their personality does not match their lovely appearance. Since it's Thursday here in the US, I'm gonna go ahead and wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALI! May you be showered with much yellow yarn. As I probably will forget tomorrow. Hugs from across the Pond.

took a break from my uni assignment (due tonight 😬) to catch up on your last few vlogs and do a bit of knitting. The yarns in your birthday advent are so pretty, and go together so well (maybe they should become some nice stripey birthday socks?). I would love to see some more geese, I loved the ones crossing the road the other day, even if I was a bit confused as to why those ducks looked so much like geese (my long covid brain just accepted I had misremembered them without thinking about it lol). I thought Dan was going to say that the only things as mean as Canada Geese and swans are waterfowl experts, lol.

Hobbit songs! 😂 … our son absolutely loved the Hobbit from even preschool age. When I would take him along grocery shopping he would sing those songs as we would choose our produce. We got the oddest looks and comments from people. Yes, as a Canadian I wholeheartedly agree that Cdn Geese are mean!

Two happy discoveries today : (1) the wonder of having a flask when you are travelling and how nice it is to decant a "fancy coffee" into to it to drink along the way, and (2) how much I enjoy Dan being an integral part of this channel! He was very nervous and remote a few years ago, and now he just embraces it and it's great to see. (PS I do enjoy watching you too - you are a very appreciative gift receiver.) 😄

In the village where I grew up one of the farmers had geese and to walk or cycle past that farm we had to be very wary as the geese would attack us if they saw us.

😂 I loved this. The whole duck/goose thing had me in fits and reminded me of visiting my uncles farm when I was very little. He had geese, vile creatures. He called them guard geese because they always made the most horrendous racket if anyone came in the yard. Xxx

We have a children's park called Story Book Gardens, it has little story displays such as Jack and Jill that went up the hill with a slide etc. My parents took myself and my little brother who was maybe 3 to the park and one of the geese chased him down the hill. Being 9 at the time it was the funniest thing I've seen! He was screaming, my mom was running after it, my dad was laughing. We had 5 geese growing up and they protected our chicken coop. They were the best, anyone or thing that came on the property that they didn't recognise they went crazy honking and carrying on to scare the visitors away. We even got them a kiddy pool to swim in during the summer, it was actually for my little brother but they soon took over with all their goose poop! lol

I learned something-I had no idea that Canada Geese were common in Britain. I live in a state that borders Canada, and we have Canadian geese down here. We also are part of the breeding area for Common Loons. Their main breeding area is in Canada, but there are parts of the northernmost US that also have Common Loons. I have seen them on one of our nearby lakes. So...........do you have common loons in Britain?
