I can tell you trains just have that effect. I am by no means overworked and I regularly sleep during my 30 minute commute.

You don't really "sleep because of overwork" on Bullet Trains though. Bullet Trains are inter-regional trains that's basically the same as airplanes. Unless you've been working a full day right before or on a tight schedule, people usually treat Bullet Train rides as if you're flying to another state.

The only problem would be the fact that trains move from stations to stations faster than planes, and their staff doesn't usually check people for every stop. Tbh, I think OP confused Bullet Trains with Japanese Metro/Subway--which is necessary for a lot of people's daily grinds. That's why they're often found sleeping from overwork there, but not in Bullet Trains.

That happens. I'm working at railway depot and it's pretty common to train to arrive with a passager who had forgot to board off at the last station. They are usually guided out through main gate or may be sent back by another train if there is any.

Yeah it can be quite a trouble overshooting your destination. I once overshot my station by two more, and had to walk an hour short to get back to my hotel because the train I was riding was the last one of the day and there was no train running the opposite direction. Good thing that Japan is a safe place or I would probably get robbed.

The Shinkansen/Bullet train bit is actually important since if you overslept for a little bit, the possibility that you miss your station and ended up in different prefecture is very high since Shinkansen stations are spaced relatively far away to each other (otherwise it will stop too much thus not really fast anymore). Also not all Shinkansen are the same, some make less stop, thus you might ended up quite far from your intended station if you overslept. Most prefecture only have 1 Shinkansen station.
