You could pee in the tank and give them some food. Peeponics

You could also toss in the old leaves/stems in the tank.

I've seen people ad aquatic snails and feed them the plant materials when trimming plants. It re-introduces the elements the plants need. And the snails are also food for fish

That's one way to go. Compost worms in the media beds are also a must I think.

I ran a system without fish for 12 months. I used aged urine, seasol, charlie carp, lime and chelated iron. Grew awesome

I think larger, more developed plants, that are older and more mature have the ability to grow for many months just on internal reserves. I have no definitive evidence, but I have seen many first-hand examples of mature plants growing and dividing on very little nutrition after some time of healthy vigorous ideal condition growth. No doubt this system has residual nutrients, I just think some plants can enter a survival mode if they are healthy enough when conditions change.

HELLO Rob, your videos are amazing. i have been watching your videos for over 6 months now and i must say they are very educative and motivational. My name is Kwame and i am from Ghana ( West Africa), i recently stocked 1000 catfish juveniles IN 4 different tARPAULIN SURFACE PONDS. I WILL LOVE TO TURN THEM INTO AN AQUAPONIC SYSTEM. KINDLY ASSIST ME THE BEST WAY TO GO BY IT BECAUSE I CURRENTLY RUN THE OPEN SYSTEM WHERE WATER IS NOT RE CIRCULATED.THANK YOU.

I was wondering how a system would work without the fish, thank you for the video.
@RobsAquaponics6 ай бұрын
No problem 👍 Peeponics would have to be the easiest & cheapest "organic" way to grow without fish but the fish emulsion does the trick as well. .

Hi there Would growing food by aquaponics, can that be classed as organic. I should imagine hydroponics wouldn’t be. Love your videos 👍👍
@RobsAquaponics6 ай бұрын
You can do organic hydro as well & there's a few folks selling certified organic fertilisers for it now. Bioponics & Peeponics are also a take on an organic hydro system as well.

You had Chinese golden amaranth? I was going to be planting that in a wicking bed (soil over flooded sand) do you have any tips for aquaponics amaranth growth?
@RobsAquaponics6 ай бұрын
We have Chinese red & red giant amaranths. They do fantastic in aquaponics, probably too well if you don't eat enough & keep them trimmed back.
@handy-capoutdoors40636 ай бұрын
Thanks Rob, I was hoping they would do well. Means a small bed can grow enough to keep up. 😀

I wish this video would have came out two weeks ago. I bought a bunch of guppies after bad advice on Facebook, then I bought 100 red rosy minnows and they apparently don’t get big enough either so I’m double screwed. I’ve just ordered coy. I really like the guppies to look at and the minnows have no personality. I need to find a way to get rid of them. They don’t mix together anyway. They eat each others young. This was a big lapse in judgment. I need bigger fish. I really don’t want to harvest them continuously, fish is cheap and I don’t feel like it’s worth it
@stevestarkukulele60466 ай бұрын
They can be feed for what ever you put in the system. No need to take them out.
@xthemadplumberx71106 ай бұрын
And then I bought koi that get up to 3 feet long, come to find out. That’s a third strike. I’m gonna go fishing for catfish this weekend and bring home some fish to throw in the tank and get rid of my bad judgment. If the catfish cause a nitrite spike, and kill everything, Im not even going to be sad. I’m just gonna go cat fishing again and get him some friends.

Larger ornamentals like koi or goldfish grow some great veg. They can also fetch a decent price as well if you can get them to breed for you. 😉
