For anyone put off by the price they have a 30% off right now bringing the NH35 a down to $420 and the Swiss movement to $560. I’m interested in getting a B&R and this might fill that void for now to see if I like the chunky squareness

The T100 and T25 tubes are made by Microtec and do not need to be charged with light to glow. The inside of the tubes are coated with phosphor and the tubes are filled with radio active tritium gas which emits electrons. The electrons hit the phosphorous coating exciting it and causing it to glow. I have about 6 watches that use this technology including watches made by Luminox, Traser and Aquatico. You have to let your eyes adjust to the darkness and then you can tell the time all night long. I usually switch to one of these watches when I am hunting at night or even when i go to bed. I can wake up in the middle of the night and always tell time. The tritium isotope has a halflife so after a number of years the intensity will diminish. I have a Luminox watch that is 15 years old and I can still see it glowing after dark just not as bright. This link is a good article about this technology. www.ablogtowatch.com/how-glow-dark-tritium-gas-tubes-made-mb-mi😮crotec/p

They have a sale right now and snagged an Aquatico SuperCharger with NH35 Movement for $299, the Sellita version could be had for $399. Was hesitant if the price increase was worth it to upgrade to a Sellita because I primarily bought the watch for the design and the Sellita movement might not be top grade. Also had some bad experiences with SW200 and their winding lever on two of my Oris and unregulated Sellita movement runs pretty bad (as Oris normally ships out unregulated SW200).

I don't own a tritium watch but have done a bit of research. If I understand, tritium isn't charged. It is what it is. It is generally not as bright as Superluminova but had this review shown the brightness after 30 minutes of darkness, the tritium would have been brighter. If you check your watch at midnight, you want tritium (for the first few years of your watch). If you check your watch 10 minutes after you go to bed, Superluminova is your choice.

Since Tritium is radioactive, it will glow whether or not it receives any light exposure; however its ability to glow is limited by the radioactive half-life of the material itself. This means that as Tritium ages, its ability to glow will diminish until the point that it ceases to glow at all. Since Luminova and Super-LumiNova involve a charging and discharging process, the luminosity decreases over time and requires recharging through exposure to light. The glow of Luminova in darkness diminishes after only three to five hours, whereas the brightness of Super-LumiNova starts to decrease after about 15 hours. The use of such photoluminescences ultimately prevailed also because of the strict regulations regarding the use and disposal of radioactive material for cost and safety reasons. Since tritium watches are also considered to be potentially hazardous, the use of tritium in watches was finally stopped in the 1990s. Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k Looks like I did uderstand. I have about a couple of dozen watches; mostly high-end Japanese (Seiko, Citizen, Alpine) and mid-level Swiss (Hamilton, Tag Heuer, Rado, Omega, Rolex). If your Super Luminova watches last 15 hours, they are way better than mine.
@watchreviews4k
@watchreviews4k Жыл бұрын
According to Rolex Chromalight lasts; “The blue glow lasts up to eight hours with a uniform luminosity throughout, practically twice as long as that of standard luminescent materials.”, Luminova is typically half of that circa four hours. Super-LumiNova and Luminova are basically the same. As such, Rolex Super-Luminova lasts for about 4 hours as well. 15 hours is the typical maximum for Super-Luminova when fully charged. In 2021 Rolex made adjustments and improvements to its Chromalight compound and as a result, the intensity of the blue glow lasts longer thanks to a new, innovative luminescent material. Furthermore, the compound also has a brighter white hue in daylight. Tritium has a half-life of approximately 12 years. After roughly 24 years, the glow is so weak that it’s barely noticeable in most environments. Therefore, the lume no longer serves any real purpose. At the very least, it does not do what it was supposed to do. You could therefore say that tritium Rolex lume lasts about 24 years, but the glow will gradually get weaker over the years and decades. Tritium doesn't really charge with light. It is duller initially than ordinary lume. It's appeal is that it will stay that way the whole night as it is radioactive.

You are mistaken Cedric. While electrons from tritium decay activate the phosphors in the paint in the usual use case, they can also be activated with UV, and because it can take a measurable period of time before the phosphor electrons collapse and emit light, there's an opportunity to see the phosphors glow after they've been exposed to UV. Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k You are right. They can be "activated" by a UV light. But they can't be "charged" by a UV light. My Ball has a UV flashlight that comes with it. While the flashlight is there the UV light will activate the phosphor in the Tritium tubes. But once the UV flashlight is removed the tritium tubes immediately goes dark. Ball's tritium tube is like this. Deep Blue's tritium tube is also like this.

That’s a weird one… I had high hopes for this one, especially the lume, I ve seen other reviews where the lume seemed to be better. Idk really what the issue here is. The Tritium should excite the luminous pigment and then it should more visible. I’ve seen other watches with Tritium, where the lume was great, Besides that, yes I agree 600 bucks is really pushing it with a NH35. Even with their sales etc, you still have to consider taxes on top aswell. Thanks for the review!

I just bought this watch (on a blue dial) and it arrived yesterday The tritium is not as bad as in this video. I think the reviews of other KZbinrs on the lume of this watch is in line with what the lume actually is. Especially in normal use case, the tritium lume is excellent. The tritium lume is even more visible than my Ball Trainmaster Streamliner and Deep Blue Day Night 41 by virtue of the tritium tubes being thicker on the dial of this watch.

Can you enlighten me as to why this watch costs 500+ dollars whereas my PD1661 also has the same movement and mostly equal specs but costs around only 100 dollars? Where does that 400 dollar difference go to? I'm just going to come out and say this watch does not look 5 times better... Maybe I'm missing something.

Watch prices doesn't work that way. I have watches 80x the cost of a Pagani Design but it is not 80 times better. There is the law of diminishing returns. I don't have the PD-1661 but I do have the PD-1667 and just bought this Aquatico Supercharger Steel with a blue dial. The differences are in the small details. The finishing of this watch is better than that of the PD-1667 (not that the PD-1667 is a bad watch, it is good for it's $100 price). There are sharp edges on the underside of lugs of the PD that makes it uncomfortable. The brushing of this watch is also better than that of the PD. The printing of the PD is also very thin compared to the printing of the letterings of this watch (see red letterings) which can seem embossed due to the thickness of the layer of print. The PD-1667 sapphire crystal is also very reflective while the Aquatico sapphire crystal has a good AR coating. The bezel action of the PD-1667 also has a significant back-play while this watch's bezel action is solid with no backplay. The lume of this watch is also everywhere plus the tritium tubes. It is also 1000m water resistant. Again, minor details here and there. But it isn't 5x better than the PD. Similarly my Omega SMPC 300m isn't 50x the quality of the PD-1667 (which is a homage of the NTTD Seamaster). Nor is my OP39, 80x better than a Pagani Design. Even my Oris Aquis isn't 20x better than my Pagani Design.

The Aquatico is overpriced for sure. Thanks for the honest review. Deep Blue has Tritium NH35 watches from $199 to $399. WR rating ranges from 200m to 300m and all use sapphire crystals and many are on bracelets. They offer higher priced models from $999.00 to $1,099 using the SW200, but I think those are overpriced for sure. I own many Tritium watches from Ball and other brands. The eyes need to adjust for the glow of Tritium tubes in the dark. For longevity in the dark they will outlast Superluminova paint, but they don't have the initial impact you will see from painted lume. T100 should be the rating for all of the Tritium on the entire watch having more than 26 mCi (millicuries units of radioactivity) and less than 100 mCi. The same thing applies for the T25 designation on a dial meaning it will have less than 25 mCi. It can only be one or the other by adding up all the tubes used on the dial and hands. The total index marked on the dial should be T-25 or T-100 (T) which Ball uses on their highest rated dials. I've never seen T-100 used by Ball on any dials. It is either T25 or just T. Something else to consider buying a trinket with Tritium tubes. They have a half-life of 12 years and will need to be replaced after roughly 24 years.

You don't know how tritium works, do you........
@watchreviews4k
@watchreviews4k 6 ай бұрын
You are mistaken. Among others, luminous paints are used in watch dials to ensure that they can also be recognised in the dark. The luminous paints are stimulated to glow by a radioactive substance. Until well in the 1960's, the luminous dials of wrist watches and alarm clocks were marked with luminous paints containing Radium (Ra-226) or Promethium (Pm-147). These kind of watches are no longer manufactured today. This is not due to the radiation exposure to the persons wearing the watches but because of the radiological risk for the persons manufacturing them. Until the middle of the 1990's, Tritium was used instead of Radium Until the middle of the 1990's, paints that were enriched with Tritium (H-3), a radioactive isotope of Hydrogen, were used for marking luminous dials. Tritium is a beta-emitter with low energy of up to 19 keV and a half-life of 12.3 years. The paint was stimulated to glow by the Tritium beta radiation. The radiation is nearly entirely absorbed in the luminous paint itself and in the watchcase or the watch glass. However, Tritium as a volatile substance could diffuse through the underside of the watch casing, which was made from plastic in these watches, and could be incorporated through the skin by the person wearing the watch. Watches containing Tritium-luminous paints show a Tritium activity of about 0.2-0.3 GBq on average. The dose caused is mostly below 20 µSv per year. This corresponds to about 1/100 of the annual natural radiation exposure which is 2 mSv on average in Germany. Today narrow glass tubes filled with tritium gas (GTLS = gaseous tritium light sources) are used In watches manufactured today, tiny, narrow glass tubes filled with tritium gas (GTLS = gaseous tritium light sources) are used whose inner surface is coated with a special phosphorescent colour. Watches containing radioactive material are usually labelled as H3, T or T25 on the dial. The tritium beta-radiation stimulates this paint to generate continuous glowing. The glass tubes themselves, the metallic watch case and the watch glass serve as radiation shielding. The wall material of the GTLS-glass tubes is much less permeable to tritium than e. g. a plastic case. In case of a complete destruction of the watch, containing 1 GBq tritium (all tritium sources in the watch do break), only a dose of 20 µSv would be incorporated through inhalation [3]. In general, during normal use such a damage is unlikely, so the annual effective dose by everyday wearing of this type of wrist watch would be far below 0.1 µSv. Regards, #WR4K
