I travelled, well me and my wife, to Oslo specifically to see this show, so yeah, we were there and it was amazing. One of the best shows I ever saw. This show was a one-off with the choir and orchestra they used for the album Abahadabra. They did one more show with a choir and orchestra at Wacken but those were different people. Dimmu Borgir are sometimes called the dark sibling of Nightwish.

Metal is in many way one of the few genres that keep real music alive. Playing instruments. Creating new complicated melodies. Taking music to new leves. The solos of guitarist and drummers and so on, created by metal artist are in many ways what classic music was. And so much of modern music, is just computer noise. or the same 5 notes. Pop, rap so on. Often just follow the same tone. Metal ( And others, music is many things. But metal is a big part of it ) is keeping music honest. And it makes me happy.
@mardnm1237 ай бұрын
oh boy, Im a metalhead and a guitarist and thats just not correct. Most metal, but especially black metal, relies heavily on speed "tone", and atmosphere and not complex harmonies. prog metal is a different story though, (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGnKgICLn9ynrbM).

@@mardnm123 Metal is 200 different genres. Sure there are metal that does not fit the bill. But much still do. So your point, does not change my point.
@atheist1017 ай бұрын
To be fair though music doesn't have to be complicated. Many times a simple beat and few notes can give you the same goosebumps a wild melody can. I absolutely love metal but I also love hip hop, techno and a few odd genres like Gorillaz. You're right that metal is similar to classical but it's first tied to Blues and Blues has the close classical influence. Music is music whether it's a well written complicated piece or a simple beat.

instant goosebumps every time! fun fact: when I studied education at college back in 2017, we had to give a presentation about youth subcultures. Being part of the metal community myself of course I played safe and choose metal and its cmmunity as my topic. For references we had to show some material, and Gateways was one of the videos I choose (Heartwork by Carcass, My Apocolypse by Arch Enemy and Windowpane by Opeth were the other videos I picked to explain some of the different styles in Metal) Seeing a class of future kindergartenteachers having their brains grilled was somewhat funny, but some of my classmates and my teacher actually liked the music and apreciated the artistic quality Dommu Borgir have.

It thrilled you. It should. Powerful, epic and beautiful stuff. And it cost way more than $30,000. These shows with full orchestra and choir and all the logistical and technical challenges involved can take a year to organize, and they are EXPENSIVE. It's a big reason they almost never happen. (The Retrospect concert by Epica took a full year to put together).

Thank you for a great reaction! Dimmu Borgir is just awsome 🤘They are in the genre symphonic black metal and use choir and orchestra in their songs, and are one of my favourites. You can listen to their songs over and over again, and still find thigs you haven't heard. I also think they use the choir and orchestra tasteful - to enhance and enrich their music. I have been so lucky to see them live twice. On the concerts I met people from all over the world that had travelled to Norway see them. If I can give a recommendation, Council of the Wolves and Snakes is a great song. It's not live, but the video i OK 🙂kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6jWYmuVgr9gotk

Awesome stuff, man! Love Dimmu Borgir, and love Agnete(the guest vocalist here)! She also guested with another Norwegian band quite recently called "Gåte" for a song called "Svarteboka". I can almost guarantee you've not heard anything like it before. It's not metal, but it's music that people whom like metal are very likely to enjoy. ;) Their song "Huldra" is also amazing! Some other Norwegian metal favorites of mine that I highly suggest checking out: Pagan's Mind(prog/power), Leprous(prog), Borknagar(prog/black), Circus Maximus(prog), Arcturus(avant-garde).

This is a fantastic reaction. Wonderful to see you be this openminded to something that clearly is not of your own musical tradition. Here in the North the most popular metal genres are symphonic metal, death metal and something called Viking metal,- basically metal music with Nordic folk music undertones and themes of Vikingr and the Vikingr Age. You like production and seem to like your metal brutal so here are a few suggestions for you: Dimmu Borgir: Mourning Palace - Live Forces Of The Northern Night: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZiZn2aQnbCqqpY&ab_channel=NuclearBlastRecords Eluveitie: Rebirth: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ml7ThKRqgq-gr5o&ab_channel=NuclearBlastRecords Arch Enemy: House Of Mirrors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3XZdZ2bh9hgldE&ab_channel=ArchEnemy Amon Amarth: Guardians Of Asgaard: Wardruna and Aurora: Helvegen( Live): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ_Ohah-hZ6kadE&ab_channel=wardruna And finally something that also ought to resonate with you: Iranian musical scholar Farya Faraji specializing in composing music in traditional folk genres from all around the world. Here is his take on what the mixture / meeting of Nordic music, Greek medieval music and maqams might have sounded like: Farya Faraji: The Varangians - Epic Byzantine Norse Music kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2Kohnylf6maqc0&ab_channel=FaryaFaraji Enjoy. It is bands like this that prove that there is no major difference between metal and classical music. Even the growling vocal style, called 'vox diaboli', dates back to the Mystery plays of the 14th century, where the part of the Devil speaks in a gruff tone. Metal is just the same. The only real difference between metal and classical is in HOW they are played.

Check out the good songs from Dimmu! Songs from Enthrone Darkness Triumphant through Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. So many good ones. This song is their most overrated song by far. It’s really not great compared to their earlier stuff.

Why the singer is singing like this?????? Why? What kind of music is this? How did they took the name of the band from another metal great band? Did anyone listen to the original Banshee band? they are a 100 year better. Man, give me a break.

What band name? They are called Dimmu Borgir.
@Grievance_Studies_Affair_201810 ай бұрын
And they are singing like this because it's black metal. More specifically, symphonic black metal. Absolutely incredible music. I clicked in your links too, and, sorry but that Banshee band just sounds like a million other heavy metal bands. I couldn't hear one single moment that made me think like"oh wow this sounds great". A band like that will never even come close to grandiosity and epicness of symphonic metal bands like Dimmu Borgir, Epica, etc. Here's an example for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYeafJaMZbuNo9k
