That’s a really comprehensive review and tear down. Thank you. I own a Tour X4 and was wondering about how you go about peeling the various layers of foam in the liner to get a better fit. Thanks again

I’m sure the X5 is a great helmet but I’m disappointed it doesn’t include an internal sun visor and I’m disappointed that the visor/peak system requires tools to change out. For an $800 helmet, buyers are not getting much of an update over the old and tired XD4.
@mymoto-uk9 ай бұрын
Hi ynotjf. Arai have always said that they will not compromise on safety. In their opinion, having a gap between the outer shell and the EPS liner in the frontal impact area, for a internal visor to slide into, would compromise some of a helmets safety. Instead of an internal visor, Arai developed the Pro Shade System which you can get on the Vas-v visor. Although the TX5 hasn't got an internal flip down visor, Arai have made it so that you can quickly and easily, without the need for tools, change visors from a clear to a tint. I think the biggest improvement with the TX5 is the Max Vison visor and pinlock, which could on occasion be a little bit unpredictable in the old TX4. Thank you for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

@@mymoto-uk - Thank You for the explanation. My question is other Manufacturers include internal sun visors and still meet ECE & DOT safety requirements. The Pro Shade is reported to be a great improvement over past generation photo-chromatic lenses but I prefer the drop down. Since the X5 is a Touring helmet, not a full Race helmet, I’d expect the prioritization of modern features over a bloated safety stance. Arai waited too long to upgrade the XD4 and has only made incremental improvements in the X5, other manufacturers are pulling ahead.. The Schuberth E2 is equal in safety & quality but includes modern features and cost less. I owned an XD4 for over 10 years but again, I’m disappointed in the X5.

@@ynotjf Bought the Arai, and I regret it. The pro shade system amongst other issues looks odd but not covering the full visor on its down position, and creates drag on its up position. The safety focus seems like an excuse not to innovate, especially on a tour focused helmet. The pro shade system feels like they are doubling down on their mistake, which is a gimmick to upsell crap. Also, the tour x-5 is noisy as fuck, even without the beak.

@@willurban837 it's a tad tight too i get horrible hot spots in just an hour of riding which I don't get on my krios pro when they are same medium oval shell and 55-56cm size, quite dissapointed. I also bought the photochromatic pin lock and it doesn't transition enough. Krios pro is so comfortable and light, funny enough it's quieter and more aerodynamic. Visor position on the xd5 is superior though.

The reason for the X5 not having vents in the visor is to make room for the larger pinloc 120XLT, according to Arai.

Nice video , Im definitely in the market for a new helmet and this looks great in many ways. Glad that the brow vents are gone as I dont like the water ingress they can allow. Also glad that they aren't messing about with internal drop down visors . If i want extra sun shade I will wear sun glass's or orange tint rain glass's. I like the clean aesthetic on the whole, just not convinced with the side pod arrangement atm though iIm sure I'd get used to it , doesn't look great if you were to have the thing painted though same with the front logo vent I a.ways desticker my helmets but I guess thats not possible now with out using some vinylover the raised logo vent section. Other than that I tried one on today and its a beautiful fit, as always for me with Arai product. Do you carry stock of these in medium in Leeds store?
@mymoto-uk5 ай бұрын
Hi Drop Tuned. Yes, we have a good stock of these in our Leeds store. I have plenty of experience painting helmets and to me, the TX5 would be a doddle to do. The logo vent is a factor though, but with it under the peak it is barely visible. Under the badge, there are two intake vent holes. The visor mechanism is similar to the other Arai side pods and to show how easy it is I have done a complete, peak and visor removal and re fit in just 40 seconds. If there is any other information you’d like to know about this helmet, then just leave it in the comments and I’ll do what I can to help. Thank you for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

thanks for the video. bought an x5 recently and the video helped me fit my sena comms. i find that closing the visor needs the "tab" pushed to the left , pushing straight down leaves the right bottom of the visor open. is that an Arai feature ? always need to remember the chin vent is down to open, the arai vent forward to open , the top vent back to open and exhaust down to open.
@mymoto-uk3 ай бұрын
Hi Ian. Thank you for watching our video, I'm really glad it has helped you fit your Sena intercom. Getting used to which way the vents switch for open and closed is something you definitely need to get used to, people often get confused by which way opens the Arai badge vent. Getting a good visor seal can be tricky, especially on duel sport helmets, because of the irregular shape of the visor. If you are having trouble getting a seal then just drop into and Arai service centre and they will have a closer look at it for you and see if there is just a need for some fine adjustment in the visor mechanism to make it better. Thank you for watching our video and thanks for leaving me a comment. 👍

Thank you for all this information very helpful and complete. I use Arai since 1985 , for me is the best. I run the XD4 ( north america) since 2017 . and i m gonna change for the new XD5 ( north america) . About the 2 vent on the lense of the older version, I m sure they remove because is a weak point for water , when is raining very hard... sometimes you have water pass by this 2 vent......
@mymoto-uk11 ай бұрын
Hi Fabien. That could possibly be it then. I have used the Arai RX7V’s for a few years and not had a problem with rain getting in the vents, although, the rain race visor for the RX7V hasn’t got the visor vents. Thank you for watching our video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

Its suitable for on road touring? What do u think
@mymoto-ukКүн бұрын
Hi Jaaacollection. It is a great helmet for road and off road touring. But as with all duel sport helmets, there is a chance that at higher speeds (70+), depending on the wind deflection your bike screen offers, the peak can get buffeted a bit. The best thing with this helmet is that if you are doing a motorway stretch, the peak can be taken off by removing two screws and you don't even need to remove the visor to do it. All the customers who have got these Tour X5's from us have given us some really positive feedback on them. Hopefully this has helped a little bit, thank you for watching our video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍
@jhaazkahn9852Ай бұрын
The peak looks quite odd compared to the peak of x4 which looks simple and decent
@mymoto-ukАй бұрын
Hi Jhaazkahn. The problem that helmet manufacturers have with duel sport helmets is that by their very nature, peaks are not very aerodynamic. To try and combat this, they make the peaks sit higher off the helmet to increase the air flow between the peak and the shell, they also make them a lot shorter than peaks that you find on MX helmets. Because the Tour X4 was based on one of Arai’s previous MX helmets, it had a very familiar styling but it did not always perform that well at motorway speeds. Thank you for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

@@mymoto-uk I'm currently going through Morocco (Day 7). Helmet is about 7 weeks old. The visor has already jammed on me, and the chin protector has also jammed. In fact the mechanism is supposed to be glued to the outer shell of the helmet and it seems to have seperated. Stripping, cleaning and lubing the visor was ok. The chin guard was an absolute nightmare. Also, at above 120kph the peak vibrates a lot. (I get I can take it off). It's been hot and a small bit dusty, the helmet is not holding up well. Helmet is the guts of €1000. Not worth it in my opinion. Stick to the X4, I get the peak is a pain to work with on that lid but at least it can hold up in warm dusty conditions. The vent switches also seem to be jamming a bit, but I haven't used those as much. Where as I've been using the visor and chin guard everyday.
