I hadn't heard this before or even known that it existed, but I'm making a point of listening to more of the Soviet-era composers and there's a lot of good music out there. I think that the trick is not to listen to a whole lot at once so you don't get bogged down in the style. Mixing pieces like this with other works in other styles seems to allow each of these Russian pieces to shine.
