This episode has two of my favorite storytelling tropes: 1) A character is offered exactly what they want most in the world, for the one price they're unwilling to pay. 2) As part part of a tragic ending: an alternate path which leads to a happier outcome is shown to the audience, but characters' choices have already made taking that path impossible.

@@Gandorhar I am not saying that every anime is top notch or aims for the same thing arcane did. My main point was that in the east animation is much more varied. There is a much bigger palette of different kinds of anime. For us in the west animation is generally regarded as for kids so most of the animated shows we get are either for kids or family guy type of shows that are adult themed because of the humor. I actually really really love Silco as a "villain" because he has such depth to him. I mean, his ultimate aims, what really *drives* him, are things considered to be noble: freedom, equality, and independence. What makes him a villain is that he so completely subscribes to "the ends justify the means" as an ethos (Power is given to those willing to do *anything* in its pursuit) and is willing to do villainous and evil things in the pursuit of something that we would define as noble: a free and independent nation of Zaun. Silco really does love Jinx as a daughter. His love, attitude, and ethos have resulted in twisting her irrevocably, but he still was willing to sacrifice *everything* for her. Like others have said, this really is a modern-day Greek tragedy. There's hubris, mortal fallibility, and people's decisions which may make sense in the moment, but in reality have truly epic negative consequences... Euripides would be proud. One of the big pillars of that tragedy is that, despite what Vi wants to believe, Jinx really *IS* a "jinx" in the same way that someone in an actual ancient Greek play would be "cursed by the gods." Basically every thing she takes part in that's major goes horribly wrong. Think about it: the robbery, the monkey bomb trying to save Vi & Vander, the air ship in Ep4, the fight at the end of Ep6 when Vi gets taken and leaves her "abandoned" again, Ep7 where she nearly dies after fighting Ekko, and then at the end, when she fires off the rocket into the Piltover council right as they are voting to give Silco and Vaun everything they ever wanted. Every single time, the side she is supposedly on is on the verge of succeeding, only to have horrific results as the results of what she does.

There's my favourite line in the entire show. "Make her go away. Please?" Because to Jinx, Vi is playing the game she described in episode 8. The game where they invent bigger and scarier monsters until Powder would get scared, and so Vi has to scare the monster away. Caitlyn is the biggest, scariest monster, that can take her sister away forever, so of course Jinx is scared of her... and asking Vi to scare her away. Chase away the monster you created. Vi fails to catch that, but she almost succeeds anyway, accidentally, by suggesting they run away from the scary monster. However... Vi clearly does not understand her sister throughout the tea party, and so she has no chance. She is still seeing who her sister is now as a mere... illness, or a veil over her true little sister, still the caring little ten-year-old she left behind all those years ago, and doesn't even entertain the notion that she is facing not just a mask, but who her sister has BECOME in the intervening time. That's why there was never a chance that she would sway Jinx, even though Jinx herself was TRYING to be swayed... because Vi was not prepared to do the ONLY important thing, which was to ACCEPT Jinx in her current stead.
@kalinora39012 жыл бұрын
If you watch closely, you could see the brief moment where Jinx is disappointed that Vi though she had decapitated Caitlyn and put her head on a plater. In that moment, Jinx was probably very hurt and disappointed that her sister think that lowly of her. Yeah, she shot at them at the bridge, but not to hurt them, but to separate them. If Jinx wanted Caitlyn dead, she would have done so at the bridge. Jinx may be crazy, but she isn't stupid and is smart enough to put things together be that inventions, weapons, people, and situations. Everyone that she has targeted directly has hurt her and/or Vi or Silco in some way. The firelights for attacking the shimmer. Marcus for taking away her sister and threatening Silco. Now, the council, because they have been a problem for years now as their inaction has allowed the problems to fester and become worse; and when the council decides to act, they attack the people of the undercity via the enforcers. This lead to the deaths of her parents, the fact she was forced to live a life where her talents were put towards building weapons to survive, taking her sister away from her, and probably some other things. Being how stealthy she is, she could be anywhere at anytime gathering info and overhearing conversations, so there's no telling how much she knows of things. In the end, after being heavily disappointed by her sister and losing Silco, she decides what she sees as a long time problem, the council, should be dealt with, she's doing it her way. After all, there will be no peace because even if she had not done anything, they would have attempted to come for her anyway. The main one crazy enough to start stuff and they couldn't let her be and let all of Zaun have a clean slate (her included). The whole table meeting, I think, was set up for Jinx to test loyalty, after all, that was one of Silco's major values, especially after what Vander did to him. Silco was completely loyal, but got killed because he attempted to shoot Vi during Jinx's mental breakdown. Vi was somewhat loyal but could bring herself to fully accept what Powder had become (Jinx), therefore Jinx finally settling into in person as she is now instead of the mental tug of war between her younger self and her adult self. She could never fully grow up until she faced her issues, which is what this last part was. On a side note: I don't think she had any intention of killing Cait. Jinx knew Vi cared about Cait and even called Cait "Vi's girlfriend", so her intent was to make sure that Vi would not get so enamored with Cait that she would forget her sister and give her up. Her line: "Im not that crazy."; I think said as much. After all, if she cares for her sister, why would she do something that would ultimately end up pushing her sister away for good? She wanted to see if Vi, despite their differences and changes, would still be there for her, but Vi only partially passed the test. "Here's to the new us." Jinx will probably still care for her sister. Now, I'm thinking that down the line, Jinx and Vi will probably have a battle or several battles leading up to a point where they come to an understanding. Now that Jinx has had a chance to work through a lot, probably not all, but a lot of her stuff; it's time for Vi to work her stuff out, which she has failed to do (because she's extremely hard headed and stubborn).

Like yeah that might be the most important thing for their reunion but let's be honest, aslong as Vi wants to... she wouldn't be able to.

One thing I realized after many viewings: Jinx will talk, sometimes even argue, with the voices in her head. However, the only times she ever tells the voices to "Shut up" are times she's looking at Vi. There are sign of her not being mentally stable even back in act 1. You can see the scratchy lines taking over the screen even back as far as the very first scene. They just don't become prominent till act 2 when Vi isn't around warding off the bad thoughts. After that Mylo becomes the negative voice in her head. When she tells Mylo to shut up and then shoots his mannequin, she's really asking Vi to make the voices go away. She's not giving Vi to an opportunity to have Powder back. She's begging her to resurrect Powder, to take her back to the time when things were good and she warded off all the monsters in her head. Glad you enjoyed this so much because you had great insight. Though I feel guilty enjoying your pain so much. You were holding your breath in terror for moments there. @@Hohum37 What manipulation? If giving someone your honest assessment and not being 100% correct is "manipulation", then humans need to stop speaking to each other forever. The things Vi fail are pretty obvious. The whole sequence is Jinx presenting herself, and begging Vi to meet her where she IS to figure out where to go. And EVERY TIME, Vi ignores the person she is in the room with and tries to speak to the person SHE reckons she knew almost a decade ago. How would you feel if someone you haven't seen since elementary school insisted on treating you as if you were unchanged since then, demanding that you BE unchanged, to the point of deadnaming you consistently? I wouldn't be thrilled. But no. Vi keeps trying to remind her of the bad old times that sucked for Powder even before the trauma. Mylo was an unmitigated asshole to her every moment of every day. Claggor was aloof and dismissive (also just enough older that it's fair, but Powder has little reason to be all misty-eyed over his memory even without the guilt. No significant positive interaction with Vander is shown, either, at any point in the show. Childhood was bad and ended in trauma, guilt and disaster. That's what Vi tries to bring her sister BACK TO. My school age, roughly Powder's age and before, was shitty and awful though nowhere near THAT bad, obviously. It stayed bad until I was 18-19. When Facebook "connected" everyone back in the day, people I knew then started reminiscing about the good old days... which confused me, because they genuinely felt that those days had been good. For me they were awful. But they were SO DAMN ANGRY when I pointed out that those times were shit and they had MADE those times shit for me. I get Vi longing back to the good times before her unjust incarceration, but in idealising those times, she leaves her sister by the wayside.

Eeeesh. Calm down. We can have different interpretations of what's happening. It's odd to me to think that Vi, after some very brief moments with her sister, after years apart, will manage to understand her psyche, as deeply broken as it is. Saying Vi's failing her seems like an odd reading of the situation to me.
@Addam_2 жыл бұрын
It's tricky because just Silco and Jinx knowing that Marcus locked her up doesn't undo that they both believe Vi abandoned her that night. Silco doesn't know Vi tried to immediately run back for her (he wasn't there when Vi talked to Jinx on the tower). And for Jinx, just the act of walking away from her was abandoning her, I'll also add that Vi says, "I won't abandon you again." and this is why Jinx freaks out when she runs back for Caitlyn on the bridge and screams, "Liar!", it's also why she says, "You wouldn't lie to me, not again." Of course we know what's going on but it's so much more complicated for the characters involved.

I really do like that final line "What could have been." You have the immediate few little changes and there is peace of a kind, but you have as well the much broader could have been. Imagine a world where Piltover isn't grinding down the undercity under its heel, a world where people like Powder and Ekko can put their clear genius to work in that university, and fulfil that desire to help and be useful so evident in them as children in a safe and caring environment. Such a world where the massively valuable human capital of the undercity isn't so carelessly wasted is the real lost opportunity. It is unfortunate to think that this also applies to the real world, it is a tragic thing to wonder just how many geniuses have been squandered in the slums of the world.

Nothing Powder says or does disuades Vi from trying to help her. Silco meanwhile does absolutely everything he can to force Powder to become what he thinks she should be. He lies to her about her families motives to manipulate her decision making, he feeds her fear and paranoia to manipulate who she trusts, he encourages her anger and even spends his last breaths trying to force her apart from her sister. Every action Silco takes is literally the opposite from "accepting her no matter what". He has an extremely narrow vision of who she should be and considers anything else wasteful and weak. If I had to pick out one single moment that created Jinx... it would be the opening scene of the entire series. Vi is leading her vulnerable little sister onto a bridge of death and carnage... (very bad decision.. but that's kind of Vi's thing... she is fearless, relentless, and impulsive, which makes us respect her, but also leads inevitably to consistently unwise decisions) We can see from the framing and the scribbles in the opening scene that Powder is actually seeing everything on that bridge.. she's peeking through her fingers. What is the first thing she sees in the smoke on the bridge? An explosion and a flying body... followed by a point-blank execution by firearm.... the beginning of Jinx is that moment... those are even her specific themes. Vi doesn't create Jinx with the slap.. she simply NAMES her with the slap. Powder is already unstable, as demonstrated by her freakout when the kids leave her behind, as well as her active efforts to murder people with her toys.... I mean, she creates literal nail bombs as toys. She lobs Mouser at the boy chasing her and stares expectantly.. hoping, needing, wishing to see.... exactly what she saw on that bridge in the opening scene.. an explosion and a flying body... she is seriously disappointed when he is not maimed by her toy. The angst she has comes ultimately from the fact that she lives in the undercity... EVERYONE in the undercity has an inferiority complex, other than just a few individuals at the top of the ladder. The enforcers remind them at every opportunity that they are dirty trencher trash that deserve to live their miserable lives in the muck. That has an effect on people. Vi even explicitly mentions it on the bridge in episode 2: "I've lived my whole life knowing I'm less than them.. that my place is down there" Vi passes her angst on to Milo.. she actually bullies him a bit.. his theme seems to be "humiliate Milo and physically remind him of his place"... even Claggor does it to him. You can tell by the expressions on Vi's face when she does this that it isn't just her messing with her little brother.. she has actual disgust and scowls of anger on her face when she smacks Milo or kicks him. She is passing her angst to him, because that is how bullying works.. she is bullied by the world, and hands it to Milo.. who hands it to Powder by constantly reminding her how much of a screwup she is. The look on Milo's face in episode 3 when Vander tells him "you can do it" is really rough for me. This kid isn't given one single word of encouragement for 3 episodes.. nothing but crap from everyone around him... and his response to that single encouragement from Vander.. his eyes open wide.. he doesn't quite know how to respond to actual encouragement... truly sad growing up like that. Just a horrible place to grow up, the Undercity. I loved all of the kids, and wished I could give them a big hug and a better childhood, even if they were make believe.

Great analysis. The episode 1 opening scene applies to Violet. Violet is following Vander's footsteps. Among the many heartbreaking aspects of this show and this episode, Jinx's final scenes haunt me. You can see the resignation inside of her after she kills Silco; it's in her expression, her eyes, her body language, and how she moves. As it turns out, Mylo was right, all those years ago: She's a jinx. And if she's a jinx, then she will be the biggest, baddest jinx Piltover and the undercity have ever seen. No truce. No negotiations. And no peace. She'll show them all. Let it all burn, and let chaos reign. War is coming...

I'm not so sure war is coming. From a storytelling standpoint they will (hopefully) likely want to keep it character driven, not combat/spectacle (event) driven. It's possible to do this, but constantly raising the stakes can be a trap best not fallen into. For an example of a background of war, but it's really all about characters, watch Jean-Paul Rappeneau's "Cyrano De Bergerac" (1990) - (in French, with subtitles, the English dub voice acting isn't good enough) - it's a masterpiece, on a level with Arcane imo - and I don't say that lightly.

I rewatched the first episode a few days ago and just realizing that Powder was already mentally broken from the very first scene kind of caught me by surprise. The evil scratches over the enforcers faces showed right when that break was occurring. The show is not only consistent but it is so well thought out and planned. I can see why something took six years because there is so much effort being put into it

@@funnylilgalreacts yeah, coming from a casual and very occasional player of the game, but enjoying playing Jinx, I was already familiar with her character quotes, so I was looking for brokenness/insanity/depravity, or at least it's beginnings. I never noticed the bridge scene as it starts, so I need to look for that, but for me it was in ep.3 when she's crying out being left behind. That grief paired almost with a...hyperactivity?...was just unhinged.

The monster you created. I don't think it was just about that one moment when Vi left her, and I don't think Jinx lied when she said it. This whole show is about things not said and left for the viewer to interpret. I think it's also about that Vi carried a lot of anger and violence, and Vi brought her little sister into that world of violence. Children learn through mimicing and Vi was her parent as much as her sister. Vi showed her to survive on the street through brutality, Vi taught her how to hate the enforcers. But Vi also had temper control issues. While she loved her sister dearly, she also beat her up. And if we look at the music video for Enemy, and we look at her childhood trauma, we see that temper control issue again with her sister. Exposing Powder to her inner violence. Jinx is Powder gone feral, her survival mode. It's the Vi-version of Powder that protects Powder from the monsters in the absence of Vi. With all her flaws. The monster who chases the monsters away.
@MALICEM122 жыл бұрын
Exactly, Jinx is Powder's monster to guard herself with without Vi, but also because of Vi. And Vi is implied to have a lot of anger issues and resentment towards the unfair world and hand they were delt. Implied that Ep3 wasn't the first time she hit Powder, you see powder flinch in one of the earlier moments between them when Vi gets mad. As much as she loves and admires Vi she also kinda hated and resented her. In a way, Powder/Jinx is the protagonist of season 1, and that makes Vi in fact the antagonist; not Silco, her supportive father.

Yeah, I find an interesting parallel between what transpires between Vi and Powder at the end of episode 3 and what happens here between Silco and Jinx. In both cases she has harmed her family, in the first instance she is verbally assaulted "Because you're a Jinx, Milo was right" and in the second she is reassured "I never would have given you to them, not for anything... you're perfect" He may not have been the ideal father, but in that single moment he succeeds where Vi had failed years before.

I know by the end you loved the show, but I appreciate that you gave it the time and effort in the first place, and your desire to connect with the story really shows through. Arcane just hit my soul in a way that do many shows hadn't before. The characters had so much reality to them even in such a fantastical setting. Thanks so much for the reactions! I wanted to share my thoughts on Jinx's line that you discussed a bit in your afterthoughts. "I thought maybe you could love me like you used to. Even though I'm... different." - Jinx I understand where you are coming from when you say that sisterly love, or any familial love for that matter, wouldn't break apart from one instance. However, I think it's perfectly understandable to think that Vi might not have been able to love Jinx the same way as she had. There are several reasons for this, but I think two that stand out are the following: 1) The entire series Vi is trying to get "Powder" back. We never really see Vi accept that jinx is a much different person. She is fighting to get "powder" back, not necessarily just reunite with Jinx. Jinx knows this, but I think Jinx also knows that she can never go back to being "Powder." She has changed drastically. More so than any other character in the series. She has arguably also gone through the most traumatic experiences as well. Yes, you can argue that Vi lost her family to, but let's be honest. We all know that Jinx is the one that pulled the trigger and that has a huge impact. 2)We see in the final scene that Vi is speechless. She doesn't know what to say or how to respond to Jinx. She doesn't say a single word once Jinx sits in the chair labeled "jinx." I interpret this as Vi kind of accepting that she doesn't know anymore if she loves the person in front of her the same way. I'm not saying that she couldn't love Jinx the same way as before, but even Vi herself isn't sure if she could. The truth is no one really knows and we will never find out. One final thing to mention is that I'm not sure Jinx would want to be close to Vi either. Jinx thinks of herself as a Jinx. A person who brings chaos and loss to everyone around her. If Jinx still loves Vi and thinks of her as a sister, then it kind of makes sense that she wouldn't want to endanger Vi in any way. This is also backed by the fact that she leaves Caitlyn alive with Vi. She knows Vi loves Caitlyn and I think deep down Jinx wants Vi to be happy. However, Jinx also wants to bring chaos to the ones that made her life miserable. Jinx is partly a consequence of the upper city and the neglect they has towards the under city. She wants to make the council pay, and so Silco's words "We'll show them... We will show them all" echos through her mind as she fires that rocket right towards them. The story is truly tragic, and Jinx stands at the center of it all. I love it so much though 🥲
@kalinora39012 жыл бұрын
I like your analysis. Pretty spot on with mine. A lot of people underestimate Jinx's intelligence; not the fact she can make weapons from scratch, but perception and reading people. Despite her issues, she can see where problems are and what they are. The only thing is that she handles it in her own way.

There is a moment i like to highlight in this episode. When Jinx brings out the tray, every single person i've seen react to this has the same reaction. They hold their breath and wait in stunned fear for the reveal. Even the people who play the game and know that Caitlyn can't die are still utterly terrified for a moment. The fact that we as an audience wholeheartedly believe that Jinx is capable and willing to present Cait's severed head on a platter is a testament to just how strong the writing is. Everything Jinx's has done up till that point primes us for that moment, her deterioating mental health, her theatrical violence, her willingness to kill and hatred of Cait. Every moment leads to this and it comes together so well that even people who logically know she has to survive are instinctively terrified she doesn't. It's a small moment amongst so many brilliant ones but it always stood out to me. Love your reactions :)

the monster Piltover created is Zaun. The title applies to almost everyone in this show. I really enjoyed following you through this rollercoaster of emotions, Arcane is nothing less than a masterpiece of writing and acting. If you want some more of Arcane, i suggest the "Enemy" music video by Imagine Dragons, if you want a little more of Jinx before the next season shakes up this world, you can watch "get jinxed", a 8 year old music video which was published with the release of Jinx in the game. Let me preface by saying that this is, by far, my favorite reaction series to Arcane. I've watched several, and as many as have been complimentary and approving, I feel like you might be the first reactor to see this work all the way down to the bone like I felt that I did. An absolute masterpiece, and I can't wait for more. If you're interested in going a little further down the rabbit hole with this one, a favorite channel of mine is schnee on KZbin. He does a lot of really in depth analysis on the writing of Arcane which, even after multiple rewatches and watching countless reactions, really helped to reframe the way I view the events of this show. I kinda can't wait to watch it again after seeing a lot of his breakdowns and honestly, this reaction series. Another good KZbinr is T B Skyen. He's an animator who does close up analysis of how Arcane does characterization so well through its art. He also does a lot of shorts that give quick break downs of the multitude of League of Legends characters (Riot tends to do cool design first, lore second, but the lore is usually very compelling once it's in place, Arcane being the best example of that). As far as recommendations, Invincible will be a slight step down from this, but it's not NOT worth your time, especially if you liked The Boys. And it's quick. I would suggest doing that next as kind of a palette cleanser before starting Airbender, which is an absolute must. Happy (sometimes?) watching, and best of luck with the channel! M

I enjoyed going through all of your reactions, and I'm so glad that you liked the show! A couple small callbacks in this episode that I like: Vi's standoff with Jayce is like her confrontation with Deckard and his knife after the street fight in the first episode; "didn't even haggle" is consistent with Jayce buying gear from Ekko, as he tells Claggor; and Vi's line to Powder about "what makes you different makes you strong" hits harder after hearing Jinx say that she wishes she could be loved like she used to be, even though she's different. Also cool how Vi activates the gauntlet shield by blocking, not usually her go to. She's also rewarded for blocking in the bridge fight in episode three when she counters the big guy. I do think that Silco was the only one willing to give Jinx unconditional acceptance in the end - maybe Vi could get there too, with time, but she's still hanging on to Powder. Just adds to the tragedy, I suppose. Such great characters, great writing, and wonderfully artful presentation throughout. My favourite show in quite some time. I've also really liked the psychologist reactions that I've watched, would highly recommend!

something I saw someone say that really added something to the whole "kids working in the shimmer factory" thing was that, technically, that was the safest place for them. there, they were busy for the day and couldn't be exposed to other things in Zaun. although some did have to use shimmer as a chemtank, and they had to _work_, it's essentially still the safest place for the children of zaun with the way zaun is now. yknow? ALSO. in the end, idk if someone has said this yet, when vi is telling jinx to imagine their parents, vander, her etc, this is not a comforting thing for her. these people have the same, monster-like drawings as Mylo does. they are not comforting for jinx and vi has no idea. so when she says that, she thinks she's helping but she's not. silce, though, tells her not to listen to vi. this isn't because he's _manipulating_ jinx, it's because HE knows what vi is saying hurts her. he knows jinx better than vi does, and his words are actually caring, not villainous here. (33:47) it hurt me, realising that also, the weapon at the end is a shark called fishbones because silco loved sharks and it was built for him. yeah this show broke me. I've loved your reactions though, I hope the emotional rollercoaster was worth it for you!

You really speak your mind and express your feelings about the plot and characters in a coherent and meaningful way. This is not the first set reaction videos of KZbinrs watching arcane I have seen, but it is one of the best. Your emotions and how you connected you are to the characters and events was so beautiful to witness. My only grievance was that you didn't watch the "Enemy" music video before watching episode 7. Loved Silco saying to Vander that now he understands him: now he knows what means to have a daughter. Like you said, Vi is the only one who never really changes: always not-solving things with her fists. Cait is the real, maybe unique, good character in Arcane: even if very naive, due to her growing up. I loved Mel’s development too: she goes from the cold manipulative politicians, who didn’t even understand Jayce friendship with Viktor, to the one routing for peace. Nobody borns and want to be a monster, “I am the monster you created”. You keep people angry, hungry, lonely, betrayed, at war and you get Silcos, Jinxes, Savikas and, later on, Viktors. I think we are gonna see the real Jinx in second season, because until the very end she’s just tried to be what Vi and Silco wanted her to be.

I am so glad that I found your channel, because your reactions are some of the best I have seen, and I’ve found myself watching a lot of reaction videos for this series recently. Your in-depth analyses before and after the episodes have been very insightful. Also, I would never wish it on anyone, but the perspective that you were able to bring to the show because of having lost your sister is beautiful, and has allowed me to better understand what’s going on between Vi and Powder/Jinx, and many of their scenes have hit harder on this watch through than the have before because of that, despite having seen them several times already. Thank you for sharing this with us. Also, I have a couple of items that I want to share, either because I didn’t catch it the first few times through the show, or because it’s interesting information that I figure you’re probably not tracking. Also I have a recommendation for another show to try out sometime (don’t worry, it’s not as emotionally taxing as Arcane, I promise). 1) If you are still curious what League of Legends *can* be like, but don’t want to have to play it (a wise choice; the community of players is rather toxic), you can look up the League of Legends professional eSports scene. I think there’s currently an international competition going on, and you can follow it and maybe watch some games over at lolesports.com (I think) 2) I didn’t catch it my first several times through, but I think that the little girl who showed some interest in Victor during his backstory (she was on the rock and got called away by her friends) might be Skye. I’m going to have to watch back through it again at some point to confirm, but if that’s the case, then it makes her demise that much more tragic, because she was one of the only people who really saw him, even back then. 3) The rocket at the end of the episode is called a “Super-Mega-Death-Rocket”, and it is one of Jinx’s most iconic abilities in the game. It is also a call-back to the AMV that was released when Jinx was added to the game (and was animated by the same studio that created the show). Here is the url to where Riot Games first released that video 7 years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp_Pe6ithJV6etU 4) Show Recommendation: Sword Art Online - Abridged The best part about SAO:Abridged is that you don’t have to have seen the original show to understand and appreciate the abridged series. Sorry for the really long comment.

I thought Silco’s offer was valid especially when Jayce told him “your people would be annihilated”. Silco knows this and sees Jayce is having difficulties handling killing one kid. Thus what is really getting traded there is Jayces sanity. Silco is thinking “Go ahead and annihilate us. You won’t be able to sleep well for the rest of your life if you do. But it’s either that or this.”

@jerekheadrick33792 жыл бұрын
I also think Jayce was overselling it by a ton. Yes they have hextech and if they mass produced weapons maybe they would slaughter but mass production is a ways off and those enforcers with guns vs people on shimmer? They were demolished in seconds. Not that everyone on shimmer is that good but... I feel like it would be really bad for both sides if they went to war.
@kamakazines49012 жыл бұрын
It has also been Silco's strategy all along. Back in ep 3, when Vander says that even with the shimmer monsters, Silco couldn't beat Piltover, Silco's response is that he doesn't have to... he just has to scare them. Silco has Piltover pegged. He knows exactly what their limits are, and Jayce is simply the embodiment of that.

The fact you cried for the supposed "villain" of the show (Silco) says so much about this show and its writing
@pali1d2 жыл бұрын
Silco's death hits so hard because he isn't dying as a villain - he's dying as a father. There are plenty of great, relatable villains out there... but they almost always end up dying in the midst of, or as a result of, their villainy. It comes while they're trying to carry out their plan, or as a result of things they've done for the sake of their grand design. But Silco's death has almost nothing to do with his larger plans - he's literally just disavowed them - or the horrible things he's done to Zaun for the sake of his goals. He dies trying to protect his daughter from someone who was clearly causing her incredible pain, like any parent would want to do for their child. You can sympathize with a well-crafted villain dying as a result of their villainy, regret the loss, the waste of a life that was trying to do good in its own fucked up way but had to be stopped. But a parent being almost unknowingly killed by their child while they were trying to protect them, and accepting their death to the point that their last words to the kid that killed them are still full of love and acceptance? That's heartbreaking, even if that parent happens to also be a villain in other aspects of their life. In the moment, his villainy is all but forgotten, because the father is shining through so strongly.

Ever since I stumbled over your channel (what a luck that was) I feared to see your reaction to "Are we still sisters?"..😭 Thanks for sharing all your emotions and thoughts with us. You have a brillant observation! There is one thing you probably got wrong here though. Viktor (his leg) isn't corrupted by the shimmer. It's the hexcore. The shimmer helps him survive the process and not end up like the plants. Thats why Sky actually saved his life by stepping in. Viktor had no more shimmer this time and the hexcore would have destroyed him if it wasn't for Sky to take the damage. Unfortunatly, Singed won't be able to save Silco I fear. He is very busy with an other experiment (seen in his last appearence). You will not like it and with your observation skills I'm sure you will find out.. Things you could/should watch: The Enemy music video shows some backstory to Arcane that has not been seen in the show and there is a tiny teaser for season 2 out. I would suppose to dive in the League cinematics but this will be a "rabbit hole" for sure. Yet, they are stunning and not only will you meet some of our beloved Arcane characters in it from time to time, you'll also witness how huge this whole world actually is and what other characters it will have to offer. Piltover & Zaun is just a tiny peace of it. You don't even know 10 champions from League, but there are about 160! Thanks for everything (so far).. 🙏😃❤️

When Jinx fired that rocket, she made the choice to be fully herself and commit to her Father's dream : to get back at Piltover and stand up for the nation of Zaun. When Jinx sits at the Jinx chair and confronts Vi one last time, she's saying goodbye. She is Jinx and yeah that moment when Vi left Jinx made Jinx. It may have only been a moment, but it was a defining moment that spanned for years afterwards. That changed Powder into Jinx and when Jinx shot Silco and Silco told her "don't cry, you're perfect." Jinx realized that she was Jinx - that's who she is now. And she fully embraces it. Vi thinks she can get Powder back, but Powder is gone. That's one thing Silco understood that Vi didn't. And that's why Jinx said "I thought you could love me like you used to" but the fact of the matter is Vi just can't do that. Jinx wants to kill Caitlyn, she wants to kill enforcers. She chose the path of destruction. Vi chose the path that Vander had chosen. Jinx is Silco's daughter, Vi is Vander's daughter. That's the parallel the show is trying to make. And since Arcane is a frigging masterpiece, the irony in all this is that Jinx fires that rocket towards the council to honor Silco's memory. But unbeknownst to her, she will completely destroy what Silco had worked all his life to achieve : the nation of Zaun. She "jinxed" everything, one last ultimate time. The irony is she's exactly what she is and what Silco wants her to be : herself. A Jinx. Jinx. And her final act is to jinx the peace treaty and the amendment of the Nation of Zaun. Masterpiece.

If you're looking for more Arcane or Arcane-adjacent content, the official Enemy music video has additional scenes that weren't included in the show. There's also a ~30 second teaser for season 2 that hints at where the story may be going next. Finally, I've also seen a lot of channels react to the "Get Jinxed" music video (it was made by the same studio, but almost 10 years ago - mostly interesting to see how the character of Jinx has changed between now and when she was first introduced, as well as some of the things they carried forward or referenced in Arcane).

I find Vi and Powder/Jinx's characters and flaws an interesting study in contrasts. With Vi, she has a charisma to her that draws people to want to follow her lead. However, she often sets up walls to not let people in and instead shoulder the burden all on her own. With Powder/Jinx, she just wants to feel loved but instead always feels that she is being betrayed or abused by the people in her life. Which causes her to lash out and do whatever it takes to hold onto those very people who are betraying or abusing her. Interestingly though, I also feel that for all her paranoia, Jinx was accurate about her assessment of Vi. While Vi would probably still care for her, she probably wouldn't have been able to accept Jinx's more violent tendencies and morality.
@MALICEM122 жыл бұрын
Jinx was also right about Vi replacing her with Cait. Now that Vi knows the real Jinx, and how far gone she is, she will need someone else to love. Vi just got out of prison, all of her old family has been dead for years. All she has is Caitlyn and Ekko now. Caitlyn is also the polar opposite of Jinx, so the more Vi associates with one, the less she can be with the other. She can only be with one gun toting blue haired girl, not both. She can choose her family (Jinx) or not loosing her good heart/moral compass (Caitlyn). The two core values she has are now mutually exclusive. Jinx was paranoid, but she was right. We will especially see this when Vi becomes an Enforcer, the very thing she once hated. This is partly what Jinx meant by "you changed too" as the camera was on Caitlyn. The old Vi wouldn't be hanging out and hugging all over some Piltie Enforcer. She changed too.

That dinner scene is just full of stuff that can be missed or interpreted in many ways. I love how Jinx took the time not only to doodle all over the atlas gauntlets but she also repaired the one that got damaged in the fight. The fact that Caithlyn is dressed, not just in some casual clothing she quickly put on but in her enforcer uniform, is kinda scary to me. I can't imagine Jinx knocking her out and dressing her, which means Caithlyn most likely had to dress herself while Jinx was holding her at gunpoint. I also like that Silco's first words in that scene are in defence of Jinx. When I watched the scene for the first time I thought it was just to act against Vi, but I now feel, that he is more angry, that Vi keeps deadnaming his daughter. Also, the Voice Acting in this scene is great. It always gives me the shivers when Jinx asks Vi if they are still sisters.

I think Vi siding with an enforcer is the ultimate betrayal of who Vi was to jinx. And that's why she believes Vi has changed even so far as replacing her with another blue haired girl that she clearly chose over jinx on the bridge. She doesn't say much, but everything she does rounds her very well, and even though she's an antagonist I can't help but root for her in some way. I also wonder what Silco's death means for her, I don't think she's interested in being a leader. Season 2 has so many possible directions to take, now that Jinx's arc is over, and that's not even taking into account some other characters from the game that are likely to show up and were teased as early as episode 2.

That ending leaves everyone speechless. I think Vi sees herself as a monster for punching and calling Powder a jinx. Also, I believe that Sky's consciousness is inside the Hexcore and it's a plot point that will return back in Season 2. Viktor's leg looks different than other shimmer mutations because it's mixed with not only shimmer, but also Hextech and his leg brace. Sevika isn't necessarily loyal to Silco, but to his cause. If there was anyone who was fighting for the same cause as Silco, that Sevika saw as a better leader, she would betray him. Her saying "But he won't be the last" was a wake up call to Silco to step up his game. Have you noticed the body hanging in Singed's lab? What are your thoughts on that?

"I didn't see it" Lol, I didn't see Jinx standing behind Caitlyn either until I saw reaction videos of episode 8. There are so many details in this you can't catch everything, especially on the first viewing. It took me a lot of time to realise that the painting in Mel's bedroom is the exact scene she witnessed in her flashback even though the transition should make it clear for example. "She doesn't exist in the game" Nope Sevika was created for Arcane. But frankly I wouldn't be surprised if she made appearances in games now. She grew into one of my favorite characters, I really love her. Plus she's a tragic character: She can't play a card game, go to the brothel or even have a drink without Vi suddenly appearing and beating the shit out of her xD. And when it's not Vi, she's Jinx's punching bag instead. Must be hard to be Sevika, working hard, keeping everything together only to have one of two sister randomly appearing and ruining your whole day! The scene of Sevika showing her loyalty to Silco is a bit of a double-edged sword though. She's absolutely threatening him in that scene between the fact that she let him believe she might kill him instead of warning him beforehand and her "not for a worm like him" implying she'd change side in a heartbeat if a leader that's better for Zaun showed up. She's giving him an ultimatum in that scene, ala "get your shit in order or it might be you next time". "the hextech transports" Not quite, that was the point of the matrix. Magic can do pretty much anything, the only reason it merely transported before that was that Jayce only saw one spell in his life and it was a teleportation spell so he reproduced those specific runes in a specific order and got the same result but Viktor's matrix is about unlocking other functions (and maybe even more since he speaks about hextech learning). I know this is originally Jayce's work, but I'm more impressed with Viktor's scientific prowess in Arcane. In one night he figures out the problem Jayce was stuck on: Stabilizing the hex crystal's power. And now he's the one to expand hextech beyond a single function. Considering how he remembered the teleportation spell, Jayce does seem to have a photographic memory though, so that's impressive at least. As to the survivors, my best guess as a non player (well I did play a bit of lol but only a bit and it was so long ago Jinx wasn't even a hero yet), Viktor should be fine thanks to hextech and shimmer, Jayce might also be fine if he has the hexshield he showed in episode 8. Mel has completed her arc so she very much has a death flag but she's the daughter of a Noxian warlord so she might have a trick up her sleeve against assassinations. I'm still assuming she's dead until proven otherwise though, especially with the complete chaos it would cause with Mel's mom who now would have two reasons to attack Zaun/Piltover (avenging her daughter and taking the hextech for herself). Caitlyn's mom is almost certainly dead considering the drama it would cause between her, Vi and Jinx and the three minor councillors (Hoskel, Salo and the robot guy) are probably done for if only to show the power of hextech weaponry.

Another one of the powerful messages about family, especially parents & children... When Silco asks, "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" Essentially saying that I have everything I've ever wanted handed to me, and I'm going to give it up for Jinx... Same as Vander was willing to give himself up to protect Vi... Same as Marcus compromised everything about his job to protect his daughter... Same as Mel's mom had to send her away, because her daughter was the one thing that was preventing her from being as cruel as she needed to be... "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?"...

Jinx probably doesn't mean that single moment created Jinx. There's several little things. "Remember, what makes you different makes you strong." "One day, this city will respect us." "You're stronger than you think." "You can do this." The problem with all those wonderful, supportive statements is that Vi never saw what she was building a support structure around - once again, the kid who was eager to see a nail bomb explode at a punk kid's feet because he was an "other", a bully, someone she didn't immediately care about. I doubt she really wanted to see him get HURT, as such... she just wanted her bomb to work, and maiming the kid was just a side effect and proof of efficacy that she was desperate to get in that moment. Vi was, in every meaningful way, Powder's mom from pretty much her earliest real memories - Vander never seemed to DO much with Powder. But Vi never examined more closely what behaviours she was being supportive and nurturing of, because her wonderful sister could obviously do no wrong - why would she suspect that Powder might need a firmer hand, an instruction that in a normal street fight, you don't go for guns and grenades as your first option. Silco, coming after that, tried to do something to stitch Powder back together after the foundation fell out of her life, but he had no more idea of how to be a parent than anyone else did - the one thing he did better than Vi every step of the way is he was never in doubt about WHO Jinx was, and he loved her fully for part of her. I DO subscribe to the notion that every person is their own creator. We may be influenced from all manner of direction, and we are, but everything breaks apart if we can't accept that we are ourselves responsible for what we become. But Jinx is right that all the bricks in her foundation were laid by Vi. Much like someone else in this show I like to say this about, Vi had the best possible intentions, but she nonetheless was a primary cause of what Jinx became. None of it is her FAULT, but she was a primary CAUSE of it. A prime and central influence, above any other. Isn't it always the ways in which we do not intend to cause grief for our loved ones that hurt them the deepest?

This was longer then intended but some important clarifications was imo needed. At the end there is a very intresting theory that Silco is actully trying to protect Jinx in that whole scene. Vi is trying to get Powder back but regardless how mutch she is trying it´s just not gonna happen Jinx is to far gone to just do a 180 and turn into Powder again. That being said Jinx have clearly shown not to be just this crazy person. I think Jinx is testing VI through out that entire table scene. Jinx asks VI to make Cait go away, she dosent say kill Caitlyn just make her go away just like VI chased the monsters away when they were young. VI could push Caitlyn away right there to prove to Jinx she is more important. VI even hade the thought just like MANY ppl did that she brought Caitlyns head instead of the cupcake. Jinx even commented that "i´m not that crazy" Now the Jinx/Powder chairs. Where shall i sitt could be a test to se if VI can accept Jinx the way she is or if she only cares for the Powder part that is left in her. Jinx even stumbles when VI say we can leave all this behind and just run away leaving everything behind us and start over again. This could be a hint to Jinx that VI could accept her when she then stumbles asking where they go. Here comes the intresting part about what Silco is saying. "Her name is Jinx" Silco knows that the past is haunting Jinx as we can se almost every single time Jinx thinks about the past she dosent se happy memorys but instead sees haunting visions looking like monsters. Before Jinx totally snapps and kills Silco we can se VI yelling at Jinx to remember Milo, Clagger and Vander but what does Jinx se. All she sees are monsters haunting her and now Silco knowing what this does to Jinx he goes berserk doing anything and everything to break free and to make those vision go away. Jinx reacts to the gun and kills him as a result. We are meant to think that Silco is this super evil caracter that does anything to get what he wants and when he is getting it offered right infront of him he cant take it. "I never would have given u to them, U are perfect" While it may sound abit far fetched at times i have absolutly no doubt that Silcos intention was 100% protecting Jinx from VI and the monsters at the end. Jinx gave VI multiple chanses to show that she could accept her the way she is at the table. The cupcake she thought Jinx killed Caitlyn, The gun VI thinks Jinx wants her to kill Caitlyn, The chairs, Jinx asks where should i sit? Can VI accept both the Powder and Jinx part of her. And what i think was the final tipping point VI never realized the pain and horror Jinx goes through when thinking about the past and VI forced those memorys upon her to the point that she killed Silco the ONLY ONE! that trully understands and accepts her the way she is. Jinx herself in the end says that i thought u could love me like u use to, even though i´m... diffrent. Another big hint that Jinx was testing VI to se if she could ever accept her.
