What happened to the 1/4 plate under the Arcdroid that the right side it's bent upward? Was it dropped?
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic Жыл бұрын
No, it's shimmed up on both left and right in the front. I had welded on a couple more braces to the vertical tubing and it pulled the whole platform forward slightly. Normally I would have accounted for this in my planning but I didn't plan on the extra braces until the rest was built. Easiest solution to level the Arcdroid was to add some washers to space it up some.

Sir, I would raise the water level until it is flush with the grates to trap as much debris as I could and to preserve the life of my grates. I think with added water the debris will be even cooler by the time it reaches the bottom of your water table.

How much smoke do you get with the water that far away from the cutting surface?
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic 2 жыл бұрын
If there's only an inch or two of water, still a fair amount of smoke. Does a bit better up about half way but it's mostly to catch all the debris and fine particles which it does well. I wear a good mask with filters while cutting and have a vent fan system for the shop. If I were doing a lot of cutting for a production run or something, I'd raise the water up to within an inch of the material to cut down on smoke. The Droid isn't water proof so any significant water from splashing could be a concern longer term.

where did you get that tank. I just ordered an arc droid and going to build a similar stand set up. I can build the tank but it seems fruitless in the sense that you would think something like the tank would be easily found to purchase but I have had no luck finding an aluminum tank suitable to modify and use in this manner. good job by the way very well thought out and executed!!!
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Military surplus. Just happened it was about the right size. I did briefly search for a catch pan for either a small home heating oil tank or water heater. That was the only other thought I had but found this one before I got too deep into the search.

Looking fantastic! Could you post on the source of the water bin? I know you made the slatted top insert; great job on that too! Also on the arm for the control panel. I think you said but my hearing isn't what it used to be.
@amp_mechanic

That's it! The bin was basically military surplus.

@@amp_mechanic Well, unfortunately for those outside of Canada, we can't get it. They only ship within their country. Just posting here for others to be aware of that. I went through the purchase process and only found out when I tried to pay! LOL! To add insult to injury, my bank locked my credit card due to suspicious fraud, but that was only because I attempted to purchase from another country. Had absolutely nothing to do with Primecables. Dang! A trip to the bank to get things sorted out and my CC unblocked. I called them too (PC) and they said the do not have a U.S.A. counterpart. Dang again! 🤣

@@amp_mechanic What about the water tank? Did you build that too? I have the JEG Plasma table that I want to use as the insert (end result just like you fabricated) and purchase a tank for it to fit in if it's available.

Oh wow...good to know. Well being in the US, there are other options available. I know I saw some when I was searching. The water tank was a military surplus item. I just got lucky finding it.

Hi, do you ever wish it would cut a bigger area? This ia an awesome concept, but currant price is $2500 compared to others that are cheaper. Thanks
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic Жыл бұрын
There was maybe once or twice over the last year, would have been nice if it's bigger. But this handles 95% of what I cut. And there is the new X2 addon to extend cut length up to 48 inches or something. It really depends on what you plan to do with it and how much space you have I guess.

hi I like what I see. I have some experience with bigger plasma teable. But wonder to start up by my self. Wich plasma machine arew you using and how big compressor. Will you recommend that for cut in 6mm carbon steel plate or 5mm 316L steel
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Everlast 82i and compressor is actually an industrial one, it's over 200 gallon but I would have to look again. Complete overkill but sort of future proof.

How can I buy one of your torch holders?
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jesse, I don't have any for sale right now. Takes too much time to make them on my CNC router. Maybe once I get my CNC mill built or a 3D print material that is reliable, I can offer some for sale.

What are you using for your cut files? Supposedly they are working on DXF compatibility.. But I'm ready to just get to this level. Thx
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Some things I design myself, some I buy from graphic designers and edit them to customize if needed. I either use Inkscape or edit right in Fusion360 from an svg or dxf, then model and program the cut. There are a few free svg or dfx packages you can download. I think there's one I got from CNC cookbook. But you still may have to clean up the files.

Well, you're half right... I paid for a Crossfire Pro and was on the back-order list for forever, after 2 or 3 round of that I cancelled it and bought the ArcDroid. The ArcDroid has different functionality that the Crossfire as far as the trace function and future add-ons which I figured might be more usable to me. The trade off is not as much cutting area, having to build your own table. Just the ArcDroid, it is cheaper. The tradeoff is time. All the accessories I made were from scrap except for a couple pieces of aluminum angle. The time to assemble either and make some of the add-ons I would've had to make for the Crossfire anyway, I figure is about the same. Both have their place, I would recommend either depending on a persons use case. Hope you're enjoying the Crossfire!

The water´s level must be a little bit lower than the plate to be cutted . If no it´s useless...
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry but I disagree. I've tried it with no water, some water and full. Yes having it full cuts down on smoke and some of the particles. But so does having even a couple inches of water, more so than none. This machine isn't waterproof so I try to minimize the splash, plus I don't have a removable plug to drain it yet. Would make clean out much more difficult or picking up drops.

Thanks Shawn. If I have a chance I'll bounce a copy and post it in the file share on the ArcDroid Community forum. It's a pretty simple design, I'm sure you could copy it pretty easy in fusion.

While the idea is neat for small parts the price compared to Langmuir crossfire or crossfire pro just really doesn't seem sensible now if the price was like 5 or 600 dollars it would be worth it because it would be nice not to have to move around big sheets, but that's just my 2 cents otherwise it seems to work pretty good
@amp_mechanic
@amp_mechanic 2 жыл бұрын
For sure, they are different machines and suited to different users. The simple trace function is really what separates them. You can copy or create simple part designs right on the ArcDroid. And it's completely possible to pack the Arcdroid away on a shelf if you have limited space. In my case I did build a dedicated table but for the occasional user, a couple saw horses and a sheet to cut is all you need. Just depends on what you're going after. I can definitely see having a Crossfire Pro some day but, shop space may be an issue...haha. Cheers!

Probably not. I had a Crossfire Pro on order last year, it was delayed several times and I found out about the ArcDroid. For now at least, having Simple Trace and the format of the machine is more usable for what I'm doing right now.
