THANK YOU! I've got my UCAT in a month's time, and I'm quite nervous. I'm averaging around 2400 right now but I realised that my accuracy in untimed practices was lacking, so I'm going to practice that. Your advice is so helpful:) edit: i ended up getting 2810

@amberi89192 ай бұрын
@@iamkhan1012 hey:) all my mocks were below 2500 (my highest was 2460 on medify LMFAO and i didnt do the official mocks C or D (ppl say they're the most accurate in scoring). but yeah i did my ucat! i ended up getting 2810, WAY higher than i would've thought, but unfortunately not good enough for aussie unis, so might have to take the gamsat pathway... i know if i was in england the unis would absolutely eat my score up, but life won't always be a smooth road haha

Wow i really like your perspective of the ucat- its very different. Im from the UK and here we focus more on practice, practice, practice and speed- i like your perspective but i cant risk trying an overly new way of revising for the exam- i will definitely incorporate more of the accuracy aspect you mentioned and i understand why learning what the root of the mistake is important
@ArcherNewton2 жыл бұрын
yep accuracy first, then speed second - all the best :)

this video was honestly so, so helpful ;;-;; for the longest time, the only advice I had really received was how to increase speed or how to improve accuracy - never both! I'd love to hear more about how you refined your process for verbal reasoning :D Would you say increasing reading speed helps with verbal reasoning? And if so, how would one increase it? Thank you so much for all your great advice!
@ArcherNewton4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you 😊 I really appreciate it. The worksheet link in the description has 2 hours of videos which actually describes the very exact methods that I used but explained better than I ever could! Yes definitely reading speed is something that needs to be mastered to do well at VR, however, it's very difficult to read quick and comprehend quick too, so don't go too quick haha. There's tons of stuff out there about speed reading but you really really gotta make sure your comprehension doesn't drop significantly.

I've got about 7 weeks left. Is this enough? Can you give me a quick overview of how I should split these weeks to maximise my chances? Great video btw!
@ArcherNewton4 жыл бұрын
Hi! You have a lot of time left to do really well at the UCAT. I wouldn't have a specific plan for you because I don't know how much time you can allocate weekly, how long you can properly concentrate for while doing UCAT question, idk how easily you find a UCAT because you don't want to make a study timetable based on how much you think you should spend on each section, that should be determined exactly by what are your weakest areas and starting off with that. However, you should really spend the majority of your time in accuracy section. Then focus on speed once you have really high untimed accuracy, then in the final 1-2 weeks, full-timed mocks to tackle any exam-specific issues like fatigue and loss of concentration, nervousness, etc. Mostly everyone just moves onto speed too quickly which makes it a lot harder to develop accuracy since you can't do it untimed in the first place. There isn't a need tons and tons of questions if you spend the time and energy to properly refine your techniques. Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you need anything else :D

Hey Archer, thanks for the wonderful video, I learnt so much and have gained a new perspective to the way to properly prepare for the UCAT! I haven't seen many reviews or people talking about the icanmed course so I'm interested in learning more. How did you find the accuracy of the questions they provided compared to the actual UCAT exam? Was it harder or easier and for which sections? Thanks so much, hope keep doing God's work for aspiring medical students :)

Hi loopsy! Really glad to hear you found it useful!! I found that between the question banks I tried like medify, icanmed's was the most representative which is what is most important in the end. I would say a good place to start would be joining one of their free webinars about how to do the UCAT if you're interested: www.icanmed.com.au/webinars/ If you do eventually decide to go with them and put my name as the 'referrer' you'll be able to get $10 off too. Hope that helps, please let me know any other questions that you have!

Thank you for the video!! How long would you recommend students to study for the UCAT a day and when to start?
@ArcherNewton4 жыл бұрын
Hi Juhui! As a very very rough estimate, you should have at least 300 hours into the UCAT. I started early but only did 30 minutes every day so it easily added to over 300+ hours quite easily. It really depends for each person and how you're progressing through the content. Starting as soon as possible is always the best but a few months before is a good start.

Thanks for the vid, im going to be sitting the UCAT next year, so would you suggest purchasing icanmed guides now, to learn the processes involved in answering the questions? (im pretty lost right now, in terms of approaching questions systematically) Thanks.

Hi Jaydon! No problem. If you're sitting the UCAT next year, the best time to start is now so that you can have your preparation out of the way before next year starts and gets too busy with school work. They will be running another free webinar soon which will be super useful to watch icanmed.com.au/next-webinar where they are going to be going through how to begin learning the UCAT and approaching all question types. Hope that helps, please let me know any other questions that you have Jaydon!

Hi Arthur! Can you go through the details on how we reflect on our attempts? Do we write each attempt and its logic down, or do we write down the structure of the question instead?
@ArcherNewton3 жыл бұрын
Hi! The main idea is to figure out exactly what was your thought process and why you did specifically what you do so you can determine a way to prevent the same mistake from ever happening again. This requires thoughtful and deep considerations of your thoughts specifc to the question :) Hope that helps! Please let me know any other questions you have!

Hi Aquarxus, the coupon code was for the full online UCAT course, however, since it's not the pro it misses out on a few things like, masterclasses, interview, study and medicine application courses etc. So you just miss out on a bit of extra support. is 7 days enough?
@ArcherNewton4 жыл бұрын
Hi Saif, 7 days is possible but definitely not something you want to do if you are serious about getting into med. Everyone else sitting the UCAT is trying hard to get accepted into med school. Giving yourself only 7 days doesn’t give the luxury of time to fix up your weaknesses and properly improve in the UCAT to be above the rest of the competition. If you’re serious that med is the thing you want to do, you should put in the adequate amount of time to make sure you do your best in the UCAT to have that competitive score to get into med schools. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
