I used to take the train into work 20-25 years ago and saw many young guys carrying bags, satchels and non traditional sorts of briefcases but nothing like what Mike had.... which was a purse. Archie and Moose were of a totally different generational mindset regarding what constitutes manliness and predictably judgmental toward what they perceived as effeminate.

Archie was a jerk twice here. First indicating that what was in the bag was a gift for Edith, and it's shoelaces for his shoes. Big fat hairy deal. Like that was so thrilling for her. Then acting like Moose was so great. He ought to have been up on charges for ripping the door of someone's car. And the guy in the phone booth had every right to be there. Just because Moose wanted to use the phone doesn't mean he was obligated to cut off his call.
