Thank you all for watching. The Weeknd Vocal Chain is by far the most simple hardware outboard vocal chain I've seen thus far. Crazy right!

153 Tracks in Cubase? His computer must have like 32 cores and 128gb or high speed ram. Jacob Collier does this but with 358 tracks in Pro tools

Illangelo used to use Cubase but he has since moved to Ableton. After Hours was recorded and mixed in Ableton as well.

Bro that Townsend is actually crazy! It's weird you have to record vocals in stereo, but the results are just fire. Excited to hear your thoughts on it! Love these vocal chain videos man. I'd love to see Lecraes vocal chain next! Or anyone from 116 really

Bro, I have the Sphere, is fantastic. I use the emulation of the c12 or the u47 through the UAD Manaley vox box or the Avalon 737 in unison and the result is dope.

@@alextorchio5625fire I use the U87 or the c800g into the Neve 1073 into the CL1B. The 251 is pretty fire too

I always tell people there's ways to get pro sounding vocals for not a lot of money. 1. Good vocalist - The first thing you have to start with is a vocalist who can actually vocalize/sing....well. 2. flat mic - You want a mic that flat across the middle for voice. The upper and lower freq. are outside the range of most voices. Unless you're singing in basso-profundo, which most humans can't physically do. You also want your mic to be as silent as possible. Low self noise. Any mic that can handle 120db is fine for vocals. From there it's a matter of compression, EQ and what ever sound effects. You can do all of this and well for 1000-1500. The interfaces all record the same to the computer. What's different in them is the pre-amp quality and coloring of the sound before. But once all that is done, the computer record all interfaces the same. You can get a good focusrite for 200, warm audio 47-jr and some effect plug-ins.

Now he only uses an SM7b for a microphone. After Hours (his biggest album) was SM7B - Apollo - Laptop. I recommend people watching Carlo’s (illangelo) Mix With the Masters where he breaks down the tracks of 2 songs from that album and runs through every plug-in and setting in Abel’s voice. 🫡🫡

Interesting info . Thanks for doing the video. Just one comment. While I do agree that Elam 251 is in your face type of mic. I wouldn’t apply same to u67 . It’s completely different and what ever it is , it’s definitely not in your face type off sound . Its more like laidback type of sound . Some people would call it warm and some would call it muddy depending on taste . It’s definitely more pronounced on lower mid frequencies..

That isn't the main mic that he used btw. He actually used a smb7 believe it or not

Kind of confusing to me if this is supposed to be a "secret sauce" type video. I really wouldn't describe this as "his" vocal chain without settings. This is a plugin stack that's on basically every pop artist these days, it's not really unique to The Weeknd. It's also worth mentioning, his chain (mic, pre, plugins etc.) changes every album, sometimes every song, and this is from Dec. 2015.

There is nos singular Daw that he uses , one of his many of his producers/mix engineers Illangelo, used cubase but because he started on it and has been using for so long that he knows the ins and out, but he seems to be playing with Ableton quite a bit now, the records he produced/mixed on after hours "alone again", "after hours", And even "Too late" where made and mixed in Ableton. Now Serban ghenea The greatest pop mixer in the world today has mixed the weeknds biggest hits like starboy. Ariana grandes biggest hits and the list goes one and he uses pro Tools.
