Thank you all for watching! I purchased my first UA Apollo in 2015 and they have been my go-to interface since. The new apollo X Gen 2 received upgrades that I sincerely appreciate in my workflow. For more information Check out the Universal Audio Apollo x8 Gen here: sweetwater.sjv.io/jrKK1M

With the exception of the A/D conversion, It seems all their upgrades could’ve been done with a software update.

I was trying figure out what rubbed me the wrong way with the new stuff which are cool, and you nailed it

I take your point for sure. I’ll give them that the auto-gain and headphone/monitor tweaking tech may involve some different hardware. But yea…minimal quality of life improvements

they are actually not the only company doing this tho

Ancient DSP chips from 2008 are unacceptable to me in 2024. I'm still rocking my Apollo twin mkI that I bought in 2015 and I'll be going with RME when time comes for me to upgrade. I can't justify spending $1200 only to get the same ancient sharc chips that I already have.

But there is a new color bro! Don’t you want to pay extra 500 for new color???? Why????
@DRETD21242 ай бұрын
Does it even matter if the chips are taking care of latency beautifully and letting you use the amount of plugins you need? I think the bigger and more clear issue is they didn’t really add other more needed upgrades
@pavmx703Ай бұрын
@@DRETD2124 Yes it matters because you're paying more while not getting more. They're making a much bigger margin from using old hardware and they're not passing those gains onto the customers. I take issue with that. So they want to increase their profit margin and not decrease the price? Nah. I can just go and get newer hardware that actually justifies the price other companies like RME are asking.

@ a companies interest doesn’t improve or worsen your workflow. If the stuff works and makes your life easier. That’s the main goal for a consumer. Plus they already upgraded there conversion, preamps and headphone amp. Things that actually needed upgrading. You should buy what helps your workflow and improves you as an artist, producer, ext… not what gives you the most of something or the newest thing
@pavmx703Ай бұрын
@@DRETD2124 I don't think you live in the same world a lot of people do. So if Sony could make a C800G for $300, you're saying it's fine for them to sell it for $10k? That makes ZERO sense. And NO, the main goal for a customer is to get the best product for their money. That's how capitalism works. That's how purchases work. Literally anything involving money works this way. If a hospital can get a product that is similar to another that costs 5x as much, what do you think they're going to do? That is the basic level of common sense.

Great video. Never used/needed a uad interface. It's not made for me but I get why ppl love it. Also I think you meant 192kHz instead of 196 sample rate

I’ve heard some people say there’s A to D converter improvements as well. Is this true?
@NOLASkaGuitarist2 ай бұрын
He only mentions D to A in the video, and specifically how that translates to better monitoring, but nothing of A to D. What I also want to know is do the line inputs prefer 20 dBFS or have they scaled up to full 24dBFS like my MT48. I use outboard for mastering and to get the best out of my gear I need all the headroom I can get.

Does improved converters mean the unison preamps sound more accurate to the original units?
@kevinlong46572 ай бұрын
I doubt it. Converters have been good for like a few decades now.
@samuraigracie9587Ай бұрын
It’s the D/A converter that got improved by 1+db for monitoring (only) he explained that in the video. Converters has nothing to do with preamps

Sir, if you want to conect a subwoofer where is the out for this ? I read this new 2 GEN have on his software the posiblity to conect with this. thnaks

A slight Converter upgrade when A/D converters across the board have been more than hellagood? I’ll keep my Apollo x daisy chained array with the ASP880 for adat those Burr-Brown converters have been around for a long time and are still very good Everything else seems superficial in the new Apollo offering I’ll watch the used gear site on guitar center and see who’s dropping older X6s and X8s but I really don’t think folks will upgrading without something significant under the hood not at that price

Hi Archie, Great video, and congratulations for a 100k subs! I have a few questions regarding Audio Interfaces, really appreciate if you could shed some light on them. I am new to the recording world, so please excuse the noob questions: 1. is it possible to daisy chain multiple Apollo X16's? 2. What kind of audio interface does the professional recording studios use? Really keen to know this, because I see a lot of studio tours online with their ginormous analog consoles be it NEVE or SSL, however, none of them share what audio interface they use to connect it to the pc. 3. In continuation to the previous point, apart from let's say the 64 SSL Analog Channels, they do have a lot of outboard gear. I understand the use of a patch-bay, however, how many channels of audio interface do they need in order to record, mix and master? 4. What is the difference between an AD/DA converter, and the Apollo x16? 5. What kind of patchbay would you recommend TRS / TT ? Which patch cables are more durable and reliable in terms of signal integrity?

If money isn’t an issue…go for it. Option 2: wait until the holiday as they usually do a deal that includes a bunch of plugins or a sphere mic. Option 3: save yourself about$1000 or more dollars and pick up a new or used generation 1 x6…the differences seem minimal from what I’ve seen/heard. I have an x6… I’ve never felt like I’m missing anything since I got it
