Came back to watch this video. Listening to you give yourself a pep talk about your work is where I'm at right now. Whew. I'm so nervous about the piece a client wants. I'm not procrastinating watching all of your old videos. I'm researching. Really.

FINALLY !! A full length process video..thank you! I have been fascinated with foam carvings and learning how to carve reliefs, pediments, angels such as Michael, or gladiators, etc., for my home decor...your work is right down my ally! Seeing how you used the free formed wire cutter really helped...how far down you would go for each layer, coming up a bit further for each one etc., I am a novice carver and have a big job ahead of myself but your work is inspiring!! thank you!!

Aden Hynes Sculpture Studios I have watched quite a few. Lots of amazing things! Im curious about what kind adhesive you use to glue together expanded polystyrene (packing type foam). I've been trying to find an answer but it seems like everyone has their own method.
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios9 жыл бұрын
Danial McCoy Hi Danial, we use a squirt PU expanding foam called No Nonsense Foam. You buy it in cans that you attach to an application gun (very messy, don't get it on you!)

The jobs have their fun moments, but it does require a lot of hard work, we make these videos to get a sense of everything thats involved. Thanks for watching! :)
@casinog210 жыл бұрын
Hello aiden, I keep re-watching your videos trying to catch the name of the transfer mask used ? Is it a material or netting paper.... what is it? also do you surface seal the eps with plaster? I use styroseal 1000 and it is self leveling . My use is signage so I actually do hard coat the foam to 1/8 or more thickness . If I make a mold to do copies, the styroseal works well as a sandable surface too. Keep up the great work!
@rahulpatelbaroda9 жыл бұрын
Hello Aden , Great Work !!! Can you please let me know whether we can apply Micro Topping Concrete on the EPS Art Work you do ? or what do you suggest as the finishing material ? Thanks n regards , Rahul
@jenny666barnish2 жыл бұрын
When you apply the plaster on top, is it a thin or a thick mix?
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios2 жыл бұрын
Thin mix. It's water based. So needs to be thin in order to dry properly to then sand back. If its too thick, it doesn't dry, and ends up cracking (note, it's a water based plaster mix. NOT Plaster of Paris)

What's the tool you are using and where can I buy or how do you make one?
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios10 жыл бұрын
c cgunn We're using a very thin sheet of glass fibre, almost lie a tissue paper, so that you can draw onto it, and then draw through it. And we're covering it in just a household plaster filler. This isn't waterproof or anything as its going inside, just a shell so we can make up the surface, quite delicate though.
@castertroy63479 жыл бұрын
+Aden Hynes Sculpture Studios That is remarkable. I've use the home made hot wire for designing and making parts for remote control airplanes. Especially the wings. You can also make casts of some parts this way for fiberglass molds. Great work! My final thought as the video ended, So many talented people doing this and now we have 3D printers and or 3D dremel machines. Takes some of the art out of it but at the same time makes the ideas endless.

Beautiful work. But you knew that already. Do you coat these with any kind of epoxy or plaster? If so, what do you use?
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios8 жыл бұрын
its a water based plaster filler, and thats it just sanded back :) this isn't going to be reached so won't be touched, and seen from a distance so this is all thats needed
@utubewillyman8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Aden. That makes sense. But when you do a piece that might get roughed up a bit, do you have a stronger coating you'd use?
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios8 жыл бұрын

@AdenHynesSculptureStudios11 жыл бұрын
They request a change, and we either cut off material, or add material, its only polystyrene after all. Then we reapply the plaster finish again.
