The Uigeadail and Corryvreckan are two great expressions from Ardbeg. Presented at batch strength with no colouring or chill filtering these are ticking a lot of boxes. Let's get stuck in and see if they live up to the hype 😁👍

I really like your way to review the whisky, very technical but very clear at the same time, also the tech data of the notes are superb.

Spot on. I was at Ardberg in May. Deliberated which to buy. Wasn't sure but went for Corryvrekan, and pleased I did.

yes, Ben's back! nice H2H comparison. Always good to revisit some of the classics! I used to prefare the Uigi to the Corry, but now I feel I may have to revisit the latter for some more in depth research.

Nice one Ben, still haven't gotten an Ardbeg yet. Thinking start with the 10 and the Uigeadail looks intriguing with peated sherry. Long before getting into Whisky (15 years ago) I bought a very good Kayak paddle named Corryvreckan, still the best one I have used. Cheers

Ooga-chucka... I very much prefer the Corryvreckan to the Uigeadail, but tHat's simply a personal preference. I have not had either expression in something like five years, now...

Would be interesting to see if they lived up to your memories of them! I've heard from a few people that the previous batches were special and it's tapered off a little bit. The Corry wins it for me too, I'm surprised to see so many people agree as the Oogie gets so much love!

I'm a beginner in the whisk(e)y universe and the Uigeadail and Corrywreckan are definately two of my favourite whiskys. I had no problems with the peat/smoke of those. I currently pick those over Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10 and Quarter cask, just because of the livelyness of Ardbeg U and C. I still love L16 and L10 and QC, but I rather want some umph. My nose and palate can't specify all the notes you present atm. I can only pick a few of those. I hope I can learn some day. 🤗 Thank you for a incredible detailed review. You've earned yourself another subscriber 🤗

Ardbeg is Love in a bottle and Corryvreckan is the best expression of it 😂 ... haven’t been able to get a hold of the 19! Would love to try that!

Editing together my review of the 19 year old now. It was something special - best Ardbeg I've had chance to try! Not sure I could justify the price tag though 🤔 Definitely see why the big Ardbeg fans have jumped on it 🥃😁

The last Uigeadail I had took a fairly long time after the bottle was opened before I really started to enjoy it. And by fairly long I mean a year or more. I was pretty underwhelmed with it to start off with, but I really enjoyed it by the end of the bottle. I didn't get another as I couldn't be bothered waiting that long again to enjoy it, not when I could buy something I would enjoy straight away. I have't given the Corry a try as I thought it might suffer from the same issue, and I just don't have the patience these days.

Yeah I have definitely noticed the Oogie improving as it sits. Think this one was opened about 6 months ago, will be interesting to see if it picks up again over the next few months! I actually quite liked the neck-pours on a fresh bottle of Corry, it was different for sure but not in a negative way, almost a point of interest seeing how it developed.

Incredibly detailed review, as always. I actually enjoy the Uigeadail a little more I do not miss the Ardbeg character and feel the sherry adds, not distracts. But each his own eh! Cheers!

There's quite a few of these whiskies now that have brought out interesting & contrasting opinions between us! Just goes to show that it's definitely in the distilleries interest to have diverse offerings so everyone can find something to suit them - no one whisky is every 'best'! Thanks Jon 🥃👍

Yet to try the Corryvreckan yet, but rather enjoyed the Uigeadail - only had one glass of that too though in a bar at the end of a flight. Need more to judge better :)

Mmm meaty peaty goodness 😜 Ardbeg deserves it's reputation, they make a great peaty whisky but maintain nice subtleties and points of interest in the background 🥃👍

Hi Ben. I've had 19yo sample and its great. But very overpriced, it reminded me Laphroiag 18yo (the white tube), maybe slightly more complex, AFAIR Laphroaig which i had about year ago, and I could not compare them side-by-side. 19yo has not a lot of sherry influence (if even have one, i would never guess sherry casks there in blind tasting), and seems bourbon casks were refilled and it is commercial strength so i cant figure the reason of high price...
@WhiskyGeek
@WhiskyGeek 4 жыл бұрын
Ah it's the Ardbeg 'collectors tax'! Judging from how quickly they flew off the shelves they got the price point pretty bob-on 😉 I do find it funny comparing peoples up-roar at the Balblair price hike; 18YO for £118 to this 19YO at £169 which received much less criticism. I'm editing my 19YO review now and have to say I did really enjoy it - hard to justify that price though for my budget! Would agree the Oloroso influence is very delicate, wouldn't have identified it myself blind either.

I've heard serious rumours that Uigeadail and possibly Corryvreckan have caramel colourant added in them - is that true?
@WhiskyGeek
@WhiskyGeek 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcin, No that isn't true. Ardbeg are proud of their presentation with no added colouring and seem not to chill filter either. A great way to check is to go to a German retailer as they are legally required to disclose the presence of colouring, look for 'mit farbstof' which translates to 'with dye'. 🥃👍

@@WhiskyGeek How about that: www.whiskywizard.de/ardbeg-uigeadail-54,2-vol. Enthält Farbstoff:Ja/Zuckerkulör It says clearly it does contain the colourant And that is what I am believing. This is way too dark to be natural colour.

I also prefer the Corryvreckan. Love the savoury/meaty notes coupled with the sweet layers. The Oogie is good, I just find it a little more straight forward, and dare I say boring. Slainte 🥃
