I’ve never had issues with the transmission on those trucks. Fuel pumps, yes, and those 5.3s always start ticking in the valves around 150k miles. The factory transmission on that last one went out after 412,000 miles? That's impressive. Great great great segment!!! I’d almost take a life to own that HD GMC, very sharp truck. The old boy from Kentucky reminded me so much of family in the Pikeville/ Hazzard area, awesome folks, the guy from Chicago going to spend 50k to swap everything over to a donor, think I’d reconsider that, no matter how much you love it, that’s a ton of money, but you put 3 grand in brake lines, I’m just too poor, end up doing that stuff myself. All great Truck people!!! Wake up thinking about what we’ll watch today, never disappointed 👍

Canadian fan here ✋I have a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban Starcraft Edition that I bought off the original owner almost 3 years ago. Had 289K kms (or 179K miles) at the time. Now has 408K kms (253K miles) and has been rock solid reliable. The old 350 TBI engine and 4L60E transmission are still running strong, and both are original to the truck and have never been rebuilt or replaced. Oil pressure is mint and doesn’t burn any oil. I’ve personally driven 120,000 kms on that truck and has never not started or left me stranded. I used to be an owner operator courier driver in southwest MB so that’s how I racked up most of the miles. While the newer delivery vans would break down or not start, my 28 year old truck never missed a day of work. That truck is practically my best friend and we’ve been everywhere together and I still don’t hesitate to hop in and put on another casual 2K round trip out west without trouble. 500,000 kms is my goal but we still got a ways to go. I also own a 98 Chevy K1500, 89 K1500, and 95 two door Tahoe. All very dependable trucks, I can’t even imagine life without them. LIKE A ROCK they are!!💪🪨

At my previous place of employment, I drove a 2007 Chevy 2500 6.0 Vortec. That truck ran like a dream and had no major issues after 293,000 miles (body rust which is to be expected for a work truck). It was used and abused by 3-4 different drivers and driven all over the states of Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, and Illinois. Would love to calculate how much money the company made off that truck. Sad to give it up when I left, really wanted to hit 300,000 in it. Never had that kind of attachment to a vehicle before.

When I was younger the dealership I work for had a 454 in a Suburban believe it or not. I think it might have been a 92 maybe. It was only rear-wheel drive it wasn't four-wheel drive. But it pulled a race trailer that was pretty much at the weight that the Suburban was built to handle and that's pretty much the only thing that ever did was pull that race trailer and the team members. The owner ended up selling it to a farmer when it had a ridiculous amount of mileage on it. I remember him putting it out for sale and thinking Who the hell's going to buy a truck with 400,000 plus miles on it that worked like a beaten mule its whole life. A farmer scarfed it up in a week and the damn things probably still going.

For reliability I suggest talking to independent mechanics that work on all brands. They can tell you what they work on most and they see how things are made and the quality of materials the trucks or cars are made of. Actual owners can be so bias on a certain brand they own.

The late '90s and early 2000's 5.3 Chevy engines were some of the best V8's ever made for light duty trucks. Our beater gets abused real bad and runs like a top. Just keep up with the maintenance. Those Chevy HD front ends are complete crap. Rebuild every 3 months with daily towing. Switched from an '03 6.6 to a 2013 6.7 for that very reason. The 6.6 engine is phenomenal though.

This is why Fords sell more. Ford owners have to trade in their old Ford to buy a new one because they fall apart and GM owners just keep driving their vehicles forever. I have a 92 suburban k1500 with 280k, a 97 Seville with 210k, and just acquired a 94 suburban k2500 with 205k. Most vehicles will last if you take care of them. I've owned two gm vehicles in my life, if I count family we've had 5 all together all but one were trucks. My conclusion on their reliability is that they are reliable as long as you feed them a steady diet of parts lol. TheCarChannel, You just gave the most accurate review of a Chevy Truck. I owned a 2007 Chevy Avalanche. Just sold it about 9 mos ago. It is a nice looking truck, and had a real regal "status" about it. I put about 100,000+ miles on it, but like you said, you are steady replacing parts because GM uses cheap crap in their trucks. Rear differential, all kinds of Sensors, Brake lights, rust from the crap GM paint job, catalytic converter, TWO transmissions...you name it. After the transmission blew again (Once at 120,000 then at 160,000) I was like screw it and got me a "hold over" vehicle until I can afford to get a me a good truck. Folks think I am crazy for giving up the Avalanche, but it is more cost efficient to just get something else instead of dumping money into it every season.

@@playboy03 i hate to be so harsh with any vehicle but its the truth they use crappy parts. Even out on the street at least here in california its not uncommon to see a late model GM truck with a headlight bulb that is out. Sure bulbs are only a few bucks but if they skimped out on something as cheap as that....you can only imagine the rest. Best truck i've ever owned is a Nissan bought in 08 that's stil in the family and going strong despite me jumping it in the dunes, and thousands and thousands of miles off the beaten path. It hasn't been perfect but it doesn't leak a drop of anything, and has never even been out of alignment.

Not only that, is the driver's care. I dont care how many studies there are out there of synthetic oil longevity. I will always change the oil in my car's engine every 3-5000 miles or 6 months. Nothing more, nothing less, and any engine will last a lifetime. The key is to keep up with all the maintenance of the car. Some people will think its overdoing it, but you will laugh at them in your old junker that still runs great while those people are crying their eyeballs out because their 3 year car left them stranded on the highway. There is also some care you can take to prevent rust. Every now and then, rinse the underside of the car to prevent the salt do its thing, and try as much as you can, to get a garage to park your car and not leave it under the sun, rain and snow.
